The female interviewer asking why there needs to be a gay community kinda took me out of the vid for a moment. It sounded like one of those thing someone says without realizing and make feel stupid later.

Communities are built to share and give support to those similar to each other, whether it be sexual orientation, race, interests, religion, etc.
