I was surprised to see that propofol is such a simple and symmetric compound: two isopropyl groups attached to a benzene ring on either side of a hydroxy group.
BIS MONITORING IS AWESOMe. Hey, I have a question. let's say I'm in ICU and sedation is employed. I am to not be completely conked out but just very relaxed right before I go to sleep. What would a good BIS be for just light sedation where I am still able to hear and see things but very drowsy? What would I want my BIS to be3? Is 92 ok for me?
I was given propofol for an operation earlier this yr & after injecting it into my IV I remember suddenly a medicine taste in my mouth & then I was out, next thing I knew I was waking up.
Does that machine release the remaining propofol for the duration of the procedure? Also when the person was pushing the buttons was he overriding the machine to release the drug manually to sedate her? thanks
@SedationConsulting What does the oral clonidine do? and doesn't that run the risk of a severe drop in blood pressure? I know propofolol can already cause a sever drop in blood pressue... doesn't clonidine do that also?
Awesome work with induction. Was Propofol used alone for induction or was it used in combination with another general anaesthetic? I've read so much about it but have never seen it in action. Great stuff.

I had expected some huge complicated beast.

The only other medication used was oral clonidine 1 hour prior to start of procedure.
