I hope Clear goes out of business. I got ripped off for 3 months of bullshit with their service and their SCAM. Every time I see a Clear spot stand at the mall I get pissed. I'm now with Qwest/Century link promotion with download speed at 5 mbs constant while on xbox live with 2 other laptops using the internet NO LAG!!.

abit laggy for gameplay, im getting 60-80 ping which is a big difference from 10-15 atleast its not 56k. im in between 3 towers with the farthest one is 3 miles away and closest one is 1 mile. im gettin awesome speeds at 10-12mbps down and 1.5mbps up consistently.
I have Clear, and right now I'm downloading Crysis from Steam and I'm only getting 20 to 90 kb/s. I seriously cannot play absolutely any game online due to severe lag, including on the xbox. Clear gives me the same bs telling me to just try moving the equipment closer to my window. Yeah, that didnt work. I strongly suggest everyone stay away from Clear.

It's faster at that location. Also, mbps do not apply to Clear. It's much faster even at lower mbps. Raw data is no the only factor. There is ping and latency, as well. The proof the of the pudding is in the tasting. We did our own test with "HD video at 1020 and Comcast buffered 18 times, Clear 2.

By the way, the network isnt fully built, so some of you probably just happen to be in an area where it is not beneficial yet. If you're in the bigger cities, like me...(NYC) then everyday the network is expanding and covering more. Maybe today you get shotty service, but in a few months, or this time next year, your whole section will be blazing fast. Just know that 2011, 2012 & on will only bring better.... Clear is the 1st.

Clear doesnt suck...the signal just might not have been as strong as it should be at whatever time you had it. The network and reception is only growing & getting stronger, so just know that Clear is about to be a BEAST in this country, and 4G is the next revolution in everything. I went to this test and ran it on my 07 laptop with vista home premium SP2 and it got Download speed of 4830 Kb/s and an Upload speed of 2125Kb/s .Is this good ? My laptop hardware has always been a headache to say the least. @vince277 Hopefully they have made improvements on speed especially with the new 4g network. A week after I made this video my connection went to crap. Lost service all the time and when I did have service it was at dial up speeds.

Based on the date this was uploaded, I can see that he was using the old clearwire expedience service. This is different from the new service, which is marketed simply as CLEAR. Don't confuse them, CLEAR is much faster than the old service which was called expedience.
I have had CLEAR in Chicago since February. I love it. I can take the modem anywhere in the city or in any other CLEAR city and have internet w/o having to look for a hotspot. It does go down at times but only for a few hrs.
I've had Clearwire speed up to 395MBS! Never haqd I've had speeds THIS fast. Only this fast with Clearwire. Again, I heard from them, thet ARE working on ways to eliminated downtime. It all depends on where you at at. If you aren't near the begining of Comcast grid, Clearwire towers, Att grid, your results DO vary.
I allways have recieved credit when I report my Clearwire signal is down. I've gotten a next bill reduction 4x in the 4 months I had Clear. Comcast never would give me credit. When it isn't down, Clearwire's upload and download speed is un-challenged by any other method.
@wallsmarts AND cheaper, AND not dependent upon people on the network, AND low taxes/charges, AND better customer support, AND 100% wireless and THEREFORE no setup fees etc... if you move you don't even have to tell them if you don't want to. Stay away from this service. Firstly you get locked into a 2 year warranty, next you have to deal with the terrible signal loss, and lastly the crappy customer support.

While comcast CAN be faster, sometimes it's truly awful. Earlier today, for example, I had a download speed of 2 kilobits/second. TWO. I couldn't even go to most webpages because it would time out before it had loaded the HTML file. I call Comcast, and they say everything's fine, and it's normal. Uh, no. That isn't normal; it's BS. I'm thinking about switching to clearwire because of that sorta crap. Comcast is evil. evil evil evil.

Just as an update, I know this video was created 3 years ago which is ancient in technology's timeline, I live in Houston, TX. Just got Clear here with the usb modems. I'm getting 14mb/s in certain places and 5 to 9 in others. Most websites aren't even taking advantage of these type of speeds. Bottom line: it's all about mobility! I can't carry a Comcast Technician with me to the park just to get online! For Comcast to invest in CLEAR (their competition), they know what's up!!!
Clear is not for the extremist. It's for the casual user. Email, facebook, youtube. You get to talking about XBL, PSN, HD Video, etc, then you need a high bandwidth connection.

The service itself and coverage are phenomenal and for the few issues I have had, Customer Care has been incredibly responsive and truly seems to care about the overall experience. i pay 50 a month for phone and internet and i live about a 1/4 mile from the tower you should try putting your modem in a window and keep it away from your router or clearwire phone box

for clearwire the modem is slow because of the skinny ethernet cable that clearwire issues.Change your cable to a thicker cable to get more data to go from the modem to the computer.
you have the bargain comcast package. its really no faster than dsl. i have preferred which offers 12mb/s dl and 3 mb/s ul. also there are different speed packages with the clearwire. you should be a litlle more specific if you want to give good information. : )
@Animal, it depends on what part of town you live in and you better be in a shaded area otherwise you're fucked for service. Where I'm at my signal ranges 2 to 3 bars and that is contributed to general area. Still good service and cheap.

@BravoHitman, what you'd be referring to is a wireless router and yes that should suffice. I have to warn you though Clearwire is only geared for certain online applications. If you are looking to do something along the lines of high speed gaming then Clearwire is not the best way to proceed. It works for getting online though but there are certain things you can't do w/ Clearwire so it has its drawbacks.
@BravoHitman, I've already tried it with my Playstation 2, running Clearwire into your Xbox quite possibly won't work. That is why I through in the anti-gaming message because Clearwire might not suit your needs if you are looking to do online gaming. While Clearwire might be good for basid uploding/downloading of data, I don't think it can handle a truly fast constant speed for gaming vs. a cable connection into your house etc. etc. So yes the service is going to have its drawbacks.

Make sure you are in a defined Clearwire service area and better yet see if you can test the box out to make sure you have signal specifically where you are at because terrain/surroundings can be a bitch. Also you can lease the equipment vs. paying $99 up front and I think the terms are a 1 or 2 year contract. Credit card needed don't give them your ATM. I took a risk signing on for two years personally to wave the $50 app. fee.

Uncertain if inclimate/bad weather can be a factor but they are all things to consider. I hope I've been able to answer your question. I signed up for my service at an actual store. Good deal for simple online stuff at $30+/mo. I pay $35.10 for mine because of the equipment rental. Good luck.

tried that with my PS2, more than likely those portts are either blocked by Clearwire or your modem can't keep up. Clearwire speed can also fluctuate big time and I don't think it was designed intense online gaming, but the speed is adequate for my needs. Good luck.
New that being said, clearwire is bunch more affordable and like you said, you can take it around places and not be stuck to a cable line in ONE house. PC cards are upgraded to dongles with 4g service..also a plus.
deltaforce, it depends on one's needs. For example, I got rid of the expensive Verizon service because I got tired of being reamed at $60/mo and being disconnected periodically. I chose Clearwire because of price and risked signing up for the two years. One just has to know that they plan on staying put and if they do move hopefully it is to a place that has service. It depends on what one is using the service for. Fits my needs.

clearwire is a mega version of your wireless router for your home. I would stick with a real line like dsl and cable. It would prob be good for mobile internet. I live in vegas, bought the home and mobile to try for 7 days. Thanks for posting this. Here's my issue: Comcast's signal drops out for me a lot -- up to 20 times a day, and probably more, but I log out 'cause I'm so frustrated with them. At times I get kicked off multiple times, over and over again. I know it's not my machine because when I go to a WIFI spot I have no issues at all. Is clearwire more stable? I am ready to go back to DSL because this sucks so much. I work from home, do presentations, and take classes online so this is a major inconvenience.

cy10ab, before you go with Clearwire just make sure you have actual coverage and good signal bars and know you have a good line of site between you and the nearest tower. DSL is more stable though vs. Clearwire for what you are looking to do. Good luck.

The service still sucks! It doesn't matter whether or not you sign a contract. The weather DOES affect the service, the towers go down often. You may lose your connection for hours. This is not an honest company, they have fucked over so many of their customers and you can read all about it on complaints boards all over the internet.

It's faster at that location. Also, mbps do not apply to Clear. It's much faster even at lower mbps. Raw data is no the only factor. There is ping and latency, as well. The proof the of the pudding is in the tasting. We did our own test with "HD video at 1020 and Comcast buffered 18 times, Clear 2.

By the way, the network isnt fully built, so some of you probably just happen to be in an area where it is not beneficial yet. If you're in the bigger cities, like me...(NYC) then everyday the network is expanding and covering more. Maybe today you get shotty service, but in a few months, or this time next year, your whole section will be blazing fast. Just know that 2011, 2012 & on will only bring better.... Clear is the 1st.

I went to this test and ran it on my 07 laptop with vista home premium SP2 and it got Download speed of 4830 Kb/s and an Upload speed of 2125Kb/s .Is this good ? My laptop hardware has always been a headache to say the least. @vince277 Hopefully they have made improvements on speed especially with the new 4g network. A week after I made this video my connection went to crap. Lost service all the time and when I did have service it was at dial up speeds.
I was able to get out of my contract because I was month to month and worked at Best Buy (Clearwire distributor at the time).

Based on the date this was uploaded, I can see that he was using the old clearwire expedience service. This is different from the new service, which is marketed simply as CLEAR. Don't confuse them, CLEAR is much faster than the old service which was called expedience.
I have had CLEAR in Chicago since February. I love it. I can take the modem anywhere in the city or in any other CLEAR city and have internet w/o having to look for a hotspot. It does go down at times but only for a few hrs.

I've had Clearwire speed up to 395MBS! Never haqd I've had speeds THIS fast. Only this fast with Clearwire. Again, I heard from them, thet ARE working on ways to eliminated downtime. It all depends on where you at at. If you aren't near the begining of Comcast grid, Clearwire towers, Att grid, your results DO vary.

I allways have recieved credit when I report my Clearwire signal is down. I've gotten a next bill reduction 4x in the 4 months I had Clear. Comcast never would give me credit. When it isn't down, Clearwire's upload and download speed is un-challenged by any other method.

While comcast CAN be faster, sometimes it's truly awful. Earlier today, for example, I had a download speed of 2 kilobits/second. TWO. I couldn't even go to most webpages because it would time out before it had loaded the HTML file. I call Comcast, and they say everything's fine, and it's normal. Uh, no. That isn't normal; it's BS. I'm thinking about switching to clearwire because of that sorta crap. Comcast is evil. evil evil evil.

Just as an update, I know this video was created 3 years ago which is ancient in technology's timeline, I live in Houston, TX. Just got Clear here with the usb modems. I'm getting 14mb/s in certain places and 5 to 9 in others. Most websites aren't even taking advantage of these type of speeds. Bottom line: it's all about mobility! I can't carry a Comcast Technician with me to the park just to get online! For Comcast to invest in CLEAR (their competition), they know what's up!!!

The service itself and coverage are phenomenal and for the few issues I have had, Customer Care has been incredibly responsive and truly seems to care about the overall experience. you have the bargain comcast package. its really no faster than dsl. i have preferred which offers 12mb/s dl and 3 mb/s ul. also there are different speed packages with the clearwire. you should be a litlle more specific if you want to give good information. : )

@Animal, it depends on what part of town you live in and you better be in a shaded area otherwise you're fucked for service. Where I'm at my signal ranges 2 to 3 bars and that is contributed to general area. Still good service and cheap.

@BravoHitman, what you'd be referring to is a wireless router and yes that should suffice. I have to warn you though Clearwire is only geared for certain online applications. If you are looking to do something along the lines of high speed gaming then Clearwire is not the best way to proceed. It works for getting online though but there are certain things you can't do w/ Clearwire so it has its drawbacks.

@BravoHitman, I've already tried it with my Playstation 2, running Clearwire into your Xbox quite possibly won't work. That is why I through in the anti-gaming message because Clearwire might not suit your needs if you are looking to do online gaming. While Clearwire might be good for basid uploding/downloading of data, I don't think it can handle a truly fast constant speed for gaming vs. a cable connection into your house etc. etc. So yes the service is going to have its drawbacks.

Make sure you are in a defined Clearwire service area and better yet see if you can test the box out to make sure you have signal specifically where you are at because terrain/surroundings can be a bitch. Also you can lease the equipment vs. paying $99 up front and I think the terms are a 1 or 2 year contract. Credit card needed don't give them your ATM. I took a risk signing on for two years personally to wave the $50 app. fee.

Uncertain if inclimate/bad weather can be a factor but they are all things to consider. I hope I've been able to answer your question. I signed up for my service at an actual store. Good deal for simple online stuff at $30+/mo. I pay $35.10 for mine because of the equipment rental. Good luck.

tried that with my PS2, more than likely those portts are either blocked by Clearwire or your modem can't keep up. Clearwire speed can also fluctuate big time and I don't think it was designed intense online gaming, but the speed is adequate for my needs. Good luck.

deltaforce, it depends on one's needs. For example, I got rid of the expensive Verizon service because I got tired of being reamed at $60/mo and being disconnected periodically. I chose Clearwire because of price and risked signing up for the two years. One just has to know that they plan on staying put and if they do move hopefully it is to a place that has service. It depends on what one is using the service for. Fits my needs.

On three computers I received same error msgs, Time out (-1001) Make sure you can connect to Internet, then try again. Same issue when you try to download from Apple's website or Microsoft. These three laptops I took them to a different netowrk, it downloaded fine. clear techsupport does not understand that there is a problem.

clearwire is a mega version of your wireless router for your home. I would stick with a real line like dsl and cable. It would prob be good for mobile internet. I live in vegas, bought the home and mobile to try for 7 days. No signal at all in my house because there's a big hill blocking the nearest tower. they pretty said sux to be u unless u blow up that hill.

Thanks for posting this. Here's my issue: Comcast's signal drops out for me a lot -- up to 20 times a day, and probably more, but I log out 'cause I'm so frustrated with them. At times I get kicked off multiple times, over and over again. I know it's not my machine because when I go to a WIFI spot I have no issues at all. Is clearwire more stable? I am ready to go back to DSL because this sucks so much. I work from home, do presentations, and take classes online so this is a major inconvenience.

cy10ab, before you go with Clearwire just make sure you have actual coverage and good signal bars and know you have a good line of site between you and the nearest tower. DSL is more stable though vs. Clearwire for what you are looking to do. Good luck.

clearwire is not made for gaming its to slow thats why i have comcast because its wy faster clearwire are still calling me because they dont support gaming plus i play css on pc my ping was like 500+ .Now i have comcast its 20 ping fuck clearwire!!

You should also realize the method of testing speed with flash tests can be highly inaccurate. Now excuse me while I go stab myself in frustration.

And I know flash testers are highly inaccurate but hopefully you can still tell that Comcast is much faster than Clearwire. clearwire is the worst internet ever. I tried to cancel but they sent a thec but still they say that I have enough signal but I have not. clearwire is slow more than the turtles from comcast comercial. In two month i get off of this suckers.

Dude I work At claerwire.. and if you notice, everyone... In the video the customer has the Side that says "clearwire" Faceing out the window... Considering the face the side that doesnt say clearwire is the side the antenna is on.. so he has it facing the wrong way in the window.. lmao

lolz i work for clearwire luckily where i live we don't offer clearwire....i wouldn't even use it even if i got it for free (which i don't) for those wno want to cancel....easiest way to get out of contract is to find some one to take over your contract!!! put it on craigslist or something. other than that the only way to get out of contract is to have a tech come to your house to prove that there is NO reception.

Contract NOT required! You can go month to month, but you'll pay full price for the equipment and an activation fee.
Also - you have a 20 day trial - to cancel in case it does not work.

The service still sucks! It doesn't matter whether or not you sign a contract. The weather DOES affect the service, the towers go down often. You may lose your connection for hours. This is not an honest company, they have fucked over so many of their customers and you can read all about it on complaints boards all over the internet.
