  • "i hope wordwake has the jund-killer." be careful what you wish for...

  • It cracks me up that you knew about Jace the mindsculptor

  • Saturday standard

    Sunday Legacy

  • is the invitational in ONLY standard?

I was hoping it was Legacy, Standard and Extended.

  • i'm going to buy a box of world wake when it comes out

  • cant wait a day when jund will get thrown out !!!

  • about jedi mind tricks, the form of tilting is pretty rough.

over the years tilting has been one of the prime sith mind tricks and in my opinion it's nearly cheating, where as the form of distraction and misdirection is something i am much more comfortable with since i experience it daily from my... anyway suffice to say it takes skill to tilt someone or distract them.

  • I am hoping Jund gets hated out of the format. I would like to see a more balanced game.

  • @TubeYouUser123ABC look @ it this way jund and faeries had a similar play style... control out until your opponent has nothing left.

  • I'm sorry, but what? Jund is not, by archetype, a control deck.

  • Id call it a control deck.

control decks have lots of removal,

bolt terminate blast, infest from the board

    2 for one creatures

elf thrinax master of the wild hunt.

not to mention faeries was a bunch of creatures and 4 commands and maybe a few broken ambitions

    and lots of removal

  • I'd have to disagree.

Two for ones don't fit the control archetype simply because they're two for ones. Two-for creatures don't exactly control the board, they just add board presence.

Removal is common in any well constructed T2 deck now, no matter what shard or color(s) you're playing.

And uh. When did Infest become a Jund staple? Look at the States T8 lists.

  • MullDrifter?

    Reveillark?

    Shriekmaw?

    Mistbind Clique?

    Vendilion Clique?

    Broodmate Dragon?

yeah you dont know what your talking about

  • Comment removed

  • And? Lol. A lot of those cards fit different staple archetypes. Listing random 2-4-1's doesn't make your point any clearer.

Shriekmaw though? Since when has that been considered a control card, through and through? You may as well call RDW a control deck since it has a lot of damage\removal spells.

  • Jund = Midrange

    Midrange = Aggro Control

  • all of those were featured in control decks...

    lark

    fae

    and 5 color

  • JUND RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I can't wait til worldwake, the new Jace is awesome.

    Down with JUND

  • Woah, Jund rules.

  • Red Black discard come up! Destroy what is known as Jund. If I could go the rest of the year without hearing two phrases it would be "Jund" and "in this economy". Both the second they are uttered make me change the channel or immediately manifest Jund destroying possibilities.

  • I have qualms against your comparison of faeries to jund. Jund is easy to play, it's a simple straightforward easy deck. Fae was not something any player could pick up and know what would work. The reason jund is so much more played is because its EASIER to play, also because its still a large amount cheaper. plus it IS beaten, jund isn't winning as large an amount of tourney's as faeries was with it's smaller percentage of play.

  • I think you're correct & incorrect.

Correct: Easier to play (also cheaper to build)

Incorrect: Jund IS winning as large an amount of tournaments as Fae did -- Go to starcitygames, click on a States worth of decklists, click on any decklist, then click the link at the top that says "Click here to see a summary of all decks from States 2009"

  • Why are all the Buy-a-Box Promos white?

  • Celestial Colonnade is a land... *cough*

  • It provides white mana and requires white mana to activate it's ability *cough*

  • I have to agree WOTC needs to sponsor States again, even if they have to abolish Game Day. I tried running a Game Day @ my local store and only 5 people showed up. If WOTC wants to sponsor local stores, run another City Champs season! IT WORKS!

  • when does worldwake come out?

  • First weekend in February.

  • Comment removed

  • You cant cascade off of a twincast copy, cascade triggers when you cast the spell

  • meh Kicker has already seen it's day's without mana sac a creature or land or other things :P so maybe it will be something new and worth playing.

  • just play 4 esper charms and 4 blightnings and see how fast you can put jund to its topdecking skills... works for me, ooh, and play some god damn pyroclasms, instead of volcanic fallouts...

  • I am so effing tired of Jund it isnt funny

  • i believe that kicker without blank is kicker without mana

  • They already had kicker without mana in Invasion block. In fact, Zendikar already has kicker without mana: Blood Tribute.

  • Youre right, I wrote it down wrong what I meant was something like kicker: pay x life or kicker: discard a card kicker: sacrifice a land and so on

  • They already have that too.

    Pay life - Phyrexian Scuta

Sacrifice land - an entire cycle from Planeshift: Falling Timber, Magma Burst, Bog Down, Pollen Remedy, Rushing River

  • i know.

i just think that will be what comes next.

  • you know i can say that this show was the single reason i got back into magic, caught me up on new cards, strategies, and enjoyable commentary that always gets a laugh, thanks evan!

  • In all seriousness it's nice to see you being competetive in the standard format.

  • my dream worldwake card

    Kor Shieldmage WW

    Rare 2/3

Kor Creatures you control cannot be the target of spells or activated abilities your opponents control

  • SCG is starting to challenge wizards itself for the major MTG tournament organizer

  • Whatever happened to ESPER!!

  • it has blue in it

  • I know that, I run Esper..

  • I agree...if Cedric were an honest player, he would've just taken the damage instead of screwing around to make his opponent forget about the trigger.

  • So am I the only one who thinks Cedric is a terrible person?

In my humble opinion, distracting your opponents so they miss triggers is fine, but to do it by being friendly and joking with your opponent is just too far. Call me self righteous, but there has to be a line somewhere and to be nice somebody so you can stab them in the back is wrong.

    Just my 2 cents.

  • Smother is going to wreck if it's reprinted. Goodbye Tarmo and thoctar.

  • damn, i live in canada and im only 16

  • ive beaten jund with a mano burn red burn deck many times.but its an excellent deck.wounder how worldwake gunna do

  • sure Evan, leatherback is the jund slayer, until bloodbraid cascades into it fool. Or they hardcast it one turn later than the already overplayed Great sable stag. they do need to set the jund problem right, and seriously it looks like it will get worse before it gets better if WotC is making on color thoctar fatties for jund.

  • I seriously doubt jund would run such a green intensive creature just because it's a "bargain". triple green on turn 3 would just be too inconsistent, and you'd be sitting with 3 baloths in your hand on turn 5 because you could only produce 2 green on most days.

  • @Mustustus Jund usually has 3 green on the 4th land drop in my metagame, and always by the fifth. Add in the fact that this is one more awesome thing to cascade into and it's not exactly any detriment to jund. Cascade needs to have some things banned. IDK if they need to ban particular cards or just errata the cascade mechanic entirely to basically castrate it.

  • Well for those of us who don't live in magical christmasland, 3 green is far too inconsistent to warrant the use of a triple green fatty with no extra perks (note that jund is run because nearly everything produces a 2 for 1, whether it be card advantage, discard, multiple spells). If it were a matter of "OH THAT CREATURES GOOD, RUN IT!" then every deck would be splashing white for baneslayer, etc.

  • are you saying that almost every single deck out there that splashes white doesn't run baneslayer? wait for it........LOLOLOLOLOL

  • No, what I am saying is that just because of baneslayer's existence, not every single deck is splashing just to play it.

  • an 83 cards deck which ranked #9, now that's pretty ingenious!

  • i had the jund deck built 1 year ago, but never played it in santioned because my faerie deck bwhahhahaha

  • Same here, but Jund now is tier 1, if not the "best". There are answers but they are so anti Jund they can be screwed IF they face another type of deck.

  • I faced Jund 4 times and beat it every time with a deck that makes up 3% of the metagame right now. RWU "America" planeswalker control. maindecked swerve, and celestial purge is the shiznite.

  • hate to say it evan you are dead on about how Jund is ridiculous lol

i feel dirty playing Jund just like i felt dirty playing Five Color Control in 08 (but like i played 5CC in 08, I'm playing Jund in 09)

really hope worldwake has something interesting for us because outside of the lands Zendikar was overhyped as hell...

  • Lol your non-green triple colored card predictions are terribly off.

  • Would it be too much to ask for a Limited States one of these years?

  • yes it would.

  • Cedric Phillips came off as kind of a dick in this video. Way to put down an entire town.

  • And yeah, I'm from Fargo.

  • when is worldwake coming out ?

  • How can you NOT hold one of these tournaments in Chicago...that just seems stupid! What a bunch of BS.

  • austalias no place 4 magic dammit

  • oblivoin ring with landfall. And a 6/6 angel

    Damn.

  • Awesome episode!

  • exile a fuckin library entirely!? Fuuuuuuuawsome.

  • for how much loyalty tho? like, 15?

  • holy ball im excited for worldwake!

  • I am a Jund player, played it at States and yes I do hate control especially blue. My fingers are crossed for aggro to stay dominant until Lights block since we were forced under the thumb of control for the past few years.

  • GREAT! now baneslayer will be creep up to $60! I'd laugh my balls off if wizards took it out from M11!

  • invincible hymn + felidar sovereign. oops. i won. LOL talk about unexpected...

  • You should use a part from "Colbert's Nuclear Explosion" someday. It would fit beautifully with the announcement of something big.

  • YOUTUBE

NO I DON'T WANT YOU TO LAUGH AT ME

    ME: YOU?

BRANDON COLTRESS: HA! i KNOW i DID IT. i KNOW HOW TO.

    ME:.

  • I played a deck very similar to that Esper Control list, except I ran Deft Duelist instead of Vedalken Outlander, Filigree Angel in place of Tidehollow Sculler, and 4x Courier's Capsule in place of those enchantments. It's a TON of fun to play and I remember one game where I ended up going to 300 from Filigree Angel shenanigans. Another game I stole the win in turns by popping all my capsules, playing OtV, and swinging for 21 with Glassdust Hulks. So, so good.

  • Come on, you were crying about faeries too if memory serves.

  • Cedric is hilarious

  • HOLY CRAP that 6/6 angel has amazing artwork!!!

  • @firemaster885 its just a mockup

  • The only reason people aren't complaining about jund is the fact that those people can play the deck. Jund is fairly brainless while fae took thought to play.

  • Faeries was much better than Jund during its rein in T2.

  • i don't entirely agree i think they are very much the same in terms of power now dont get me wrong fae was a much more annoying deck to play against

  • i can take MORE life from invicible hymn..Much much more in 8th round

  • Is Maelstrom Pulse actually going to be good anymore in Standard? With all the Jund, it could hurt more than help, but then again, maybe I'm just telling myself that so I don't feel bad that I can't afford them. =P

  • its incredible against everything besides the mirror, and its still not terrible in the mirror

  • I totally missed the vigilance. I just saw a 4/4 flyer.....That is AWESOME! not enough to make me come back to standard just yet.

Funny most of the decks that won this past week. My friends have been playing for quite some time. We need to get out more.

  • Nice show! And I think that land will be underated. Going to get my playset early!

  • that manland is not that good imo...

  • What does a "bye" mean?

  • In a tournament if you get a bye you skip to the next round without playing (Its considered that you won 2-0)

  • it means you get to move forwards in the tournament with out having to play that turn.

  • A "bye" is when you advance without playing a match.

  • im 333 viewer :3 half evil

  • Seriously, banding is gonna make a return in either Worldwake or ROTE.

  • i'm picking up a playse of that man-land before it shoots up to a $15 card

  • It's already $15 a card.

  • Cedric's story is amusing but dishonest. That's not Magic.

  • awesome show Evan

  • Jedi mind tricks are awesome and a huge part of the skill of the game. People don't like jund b/c it is mindless aggro and provides for a boring metagame. I haven't played standard since champions due to the trend away from control decks where good players are allowed to actually out skill an opponent as opposed to seeing who is luckier in an aggro topdeck war.

  • You see, thats where you're wrong dude. A No-Huddle Offense is just good football. Keeping a D on it's toes and having to waste a TO to change formations is just playing smart. Same with the no-look pass. Jedi Mind Tricks are just good magic

  • Another excellent show. Thanks a lot for making these!!

  • Jund is an awesome and fun deck. People just tend to get pissy about stuff that's "popular".

I don't care to see Cedric on any future magic shows do to the fact that he hates on everything and tends to be too arrogant. The comment he made on a previous show about Crown Royal bags was judgemental and unnecessary (as it shouldn't matter what a person's accessory bag looks like... nor what the person looks like).

FYI: I've never seen Cedric in person and I'm NOT from Fargo.

  • I met Cedric at GP Minneapolis and he was a funny guy to talk to. However I saw him play against some guy and he would not stay quiet you know? Like when I play I don't mind my opponent talk a little or whatever but he is just loud and obnoxious...

  • if that's so than I think Cedric and I would make great friends. I really do nothing, but make jokes while I play.

  • RRR-Ball Lightning :P

  • "jedi mind tricks" are classless, thanks for the video tho, now I'll know better if I play against some fat black guy who talks about his geopedes too much I'll be sure to tell him to STFU the first time he opens his mouth.

  • You are so right Jedi mind tricks are classless. Exactly like other simple devices to throw your opponent off their game like no huddle offense in football or no look passes in basketball. When will people stop using such cheap tactics?

  • You're insulting too...

  • *Drools at Leatherback Baloth*

Eldrazi Green better get some more good stuff from WorldWake. I'm already catching shit from someone I know at college for playing Eldrazi because "It sucks compared to Naya Lightsaber and Jund and therefore it's the worst deck ever created."

  • The Cap Tickles 2.0 seems a bit shitty considering that Ball Lightning is in also in the format.

  • leyline of the beatjund

  • 0.30 I agree with Cedric...

  • so the starcity tourneys are only for americans

  • It's 4/5

  • Bon Iver

  • martial coo PUH PUH PUH

  • 7:07 - 24 Plains... and 24 MORE PLAINS.

  • I got hit by 4 blightnings and a mindrot in 3 turns after getting stalled on 4 mana with 3 rangers in hand. basically, fetch two wild Nacatl and discard them :(

So I hear discard is fair and balanced in this meta...

  • Go go Jace!

  • Haha freaking love the jedi mind trick, and yes they do work especially if you just do small things like leave land open, have a grin on the face that says "Go on, I dare you.", or just fake confidence to win in those tight situations. Good show, hope to see more man-dual lands.

  • Who sucks? Johnny? :)

  • -Jund- sucks. The deck type. o.o

  • Yes, it does. :)

  • can't wait for worldwake

  • I really enjoyed Game Day. I say the more tournaments the merrier.

  • fourth is still good :o)

  • damn it brian greer
