  • could a high ranking Sabaki practioner hold his own aginst a MMA fighter?

  • no head hits, not practical

  • Where is the circular movements,, i am not seeing them as was demonsrate in the Ashihara videos... this is just like Kyokushin... no side stepping, no angular movements, just straight in and out. I am impressed by Ashihara approach to fighting but I am not seeing it here.

  • Tough fight!

  • karate is soo funny

  • who would dislike this??? it was really good match

  • This is not circular movements they use on their website, it just like kyokushin. Not much change of tactics, just chopping away, not the circular countering they use in training.

  • Ashira karate is for homosexuals

  • @jobowtackmasterx You don't know even say it correctly Ashihara so why you won't shut up?

  • @jobowtackmasterx Again you ? hahahah, you are pathetic.

  • I respect Ashihara, but this is not fighting. How can you fight and leace out the most vulnerable parts of the body?

  • @antistyler This is a tournament match and obviously had rules. Ashihara karate training includes face kick/punches, elbows, headbutts, and even balls kicking or fingering to eyes....

  • this is soo uch better that the shotokan sparing

  • I don't understand why they don't do nage(Throw) on that match.

  • Osu,

I think the red belt is brave, i wnat not to fight VS a black belt, i will get at least brown belt before i am gona meet up to a tournament

  • @Bliif2 In karate one fighter is called Aka (=red) and the other is called Shiro (=white).

The red fighter wear either a red stripe tied to his belt or are give a red belt to wear to show the referees who is who.

Sometimes you see fighters with both their own belt and a red belt on at the same time. But usually they take off their own.

The designated Shiro fighter do not usually have to wear any special markings, but occasionally you see people being given a white belt to wear in the fight.

  • RIP Kancho Ashihara. I think its shame he didnt live long enough to see the tremendous pleasuer that ppl all around the world have gained from his ground breaking sabaki techniques.

    OSU.

    T.

    N.Z

  • what is so groundbreaking about it? looks like any other kyokushin tourny to me. not trying to be a smartass, i really want to know, because i don't see it.

  • @kempobrad

Ashihara Karate looks alot like Kyokushin because Ashihara is a development from Kyokushin Karate. I´ve practiced both forms, and they are very similar. All basic techniques are more or less the same - but as mentioned elsewhere, we do put a bit more hip rotation in the techniques, plus Ashihara tends to try and circle more around your opponent whereas Kyokushin is more head-on. Slight differences and ofc this is the ultra short explanation

  • @jcactive i see. yet for the most part...karate is karate is karate.

  • @kempobrad

Yeah - and in about 2½ hours i´ll go to my next ... Karate lesson ;-) have a nice day mate

  • @kempobrad maybe its because they didnt use sabaki techniques in the fight

  • ok the problem with all you retarded fucks who defend mma is that there are rules for those gay fucks who wrestle on the floor huging eachother! cause one could easly punch their testicules! or bite their ear off!!! wrestling is at best maybe superior with one to one combat!! but other disciplines such as Karate are better against more oponents!!! period!! your welcome!

  • show me the proof of that, show me video footage of REAL attackers being fought off by a karate guy. gay floor hugging, i'd like to see you say that when some wrestler is hammering your face in!

  • All,

Ignore the ignorant comments. People tend to add silly comments to videos because its annomynous and the chances of them knowing the person or being in the same country are virtually nil.

The one thing I have to add, Ashihara fighters and Kyokushin fighters are starting to take over UFC and K1, Semmy Schilts I believe is an Ashihara Fighter and Also the is George St Pierre who is a Kyokushin fighter. there is also Machida who is Shotokan

    Osu!!!!

  • you make a fair point, however those fighters are not JUST karate fighters, they also are very good grapplers, and wrestlers. you need the whole package in mma.

  • slapfight? are u fuckin blind nigger? bare knuckles u moron bare knuckles and allot of them

  • i'm not a nigger first of all. secondly wtf is this shit? its girly body shots and trips. I guess this is why i've never heard of this garbage martial art. like to see a ashihara guy against any mma fighter!!

  • How about an ashihara guy against a thai boxer?

The founder of that style beat thailand's champ in the 70's and took the world thai kickboxing champion title.

Not a good example being shown in this vid, though!

  • You've never heard of "this garbage martial art". Newsflash douchbag... This is Karate that you're watching, never heard of that?

Bare knuckles, kick to head and no pauses between the 3min rounds. It's pretty more demanding then most other sports.

I would like to see you take ONE of those kicks to your leg. I hope you realize that it's a huge difference between bare knuckles and gloves.

If they would be using punches to the head it would be too many cuts since it's bare knuckles.

  • they don't even throw head punches. ya buddy probably could kick my ass but this sport is as boring as watching grass grow!!!

  • the problem is that a head punch could break the guy face! just one ! not many like in mma!

  • mma fighters are gay, theyre huging each other all the time havent seen one friggin fight in mma all they do si roll through the ground on top of each other

  • an mma fighter would beat you down then have ass sex with you're mom!!

i know they arn't as tough as halo warriors such as yourself though!

  • if a mma fighter would actually know how to fight properly, yeah maybe he would do all that, what would a mma fighter do against 3-5 opponents?! tell me that

  • i have never seen any martial arts demo with multiple people attacking that wasn't set up to help the demonstrator. no matter what having 5 people attacking you is a tough task for anyone. you wouldn't understand that though because you watch hollywood movies and think its the norm to be able to take out 10 guys at once if you're a martial artist.

MMa fighters prove time and time again they are real fighters and that mma works. watch some old pride events then stfu!!

  • no i think like that, because in karate there are something called kata, well all martial arts have them, and if you search there are some demonstrations how a karate sensei would handle multiple oponents, and btw mma means mixed martial arts, wich means that there actually are some karate masters participating, i saw a ju jitsu fighter and a aikido fighter i think

  • thanks pal. i think i know what mma stands for!! ju jitsu, boxing, wrestling, kickboxing are what mostly works in mma

  • actually you are wrong!!! lol

  • look I've taken more than 5 guys at the same time! I'm not MMA ! what do u mean with mma?? of course is better to have knowlege of diferent martial arts!

  • bonesaw , you dont really understand martial arts , do you . i told people time and time again , its about the fight , if i am a very talented fighter i could take you down with all your boxing ju jitsu and such . mma looks more effective only because those guys are kinda retarded to fight so hard for money . to get on top of an opponent and hitting him in the face with your elbow is kinda gay . google mas oyama

  • no jackass i do understand martial arts. an armchair warrior such as yourself still thinks bruce lee type shit actually works better than proven martial arts boxing wrestling ju jitsu, sambo. Ya, elbowing someone in the face is gay and unaffective.... stfu go watch some steven seagal movies punk

  • Wow! Ashihara, using circular movements/footwork, according to their International website. I'm impressed, a different approach to combat, versus the more commonly known linear approach by other Karate lineages. I like Ashihara.
