  • This is BS!You need to load your body with heavy weights once in a while in order to increase bone density. Limit Deadlift/Barbell Squats or other barbell exercises to 20 reps/exercise/week. Then, the rest of the week you can use high-tension exercises like handstand push-ups, iron crosses, one-leg squats, rope climbs, pull-ups, and cable machine exercises

Using machines reduces accidents but increases injuries.

Machines isolates muscles from the skeleton. NOT how your body operates in reality.

  • @tmtwd No, you are completely BS - Heavy weights - the body (muscles) cannot determine the source of the load whether Machines Dead Weights Roocks - Your suggestions take exercise back to the Dark Ages by Laborous and Unnecessary Skills and that's not how the "Body Operates," and your exertions would quickly turn a Race Horse into a Crippled Donkey

  • @exarchives

The whole point of nautilus is to isolate one joint and one muscle group, ie a nautilus bicep curl isolates the biceps using elbow joint. In theory, this saves the joints and tissue from loading them with weights. Since the path of the exercise is predetermined by the machine, the accident rate decreases. Since the muscles are isolated you can focus on weaker muscles and decrease imbalances.

The nautilus machines isolate muscles in order to strengthen them.

  • NFL Players have great muscular physiques, not to mention Pro Bodybuilders, they don't use Nautilus. So Free weights are effective. I use FWs and my posture & skeleton is fine. I dont see his point.

  • @oCO: Jones was hyperbolic, dramatic, confrontational,"black & white" to the point of hostile. His points've been calmed down by successors. Goals:1/Lower chance of injury to virtual zero. 2/ Maintain meaningful resistance through full range of motion. Proper use of Nautilus,MedX,Hammer,Pendulum,SuperSlow,or RenEx machines comes infinitely closer to this goal than free weights. NFL & bodybuilders -do- use machines based on these principles, whether carrying the Nautilus brand or not.

  • Stupidity well...that's genetic, ya can't deal with it. CLASSIC!!!

  • Jones' answer to any problem was to gather up all the experts, load them onto an aircraft, then fly the plane into the side of a mountain. Works for me.

  • This rocks.

  • precious few arthur ones interview on youtube liek 5, and letterman interview is incomplete

  • I don't understand, what's his point?.. Is he saying training with free weights are bad for the body?

  • @oCOSMICeyes What I got from that is, his experiences with free weights, having trained with excessive volume momentum & explosiveness, darn near ruined his body and he's trying to have people learn from his mistakes rather than repeat them all themselves. Which lessons learned apparently gave rise to his innovations in his Nautilus equipment.

  • he must have crapped diamonds

  • I wish Arthur was my dad

  • MORE!!!

  • awesome video! thanks for sharing it.

  • Upload rest,please!

  • what if you have an adamantium skeleton? :O

  • listen to a genius, totally...too bad we can't pic up the questions being posed to him. he's the real deal for sure.

  • hey man, where did you get this ? Do you have the full lenght ?

  • @sinnerstefan - Yes - I have several DVDS of Original Footage

  • @exarchives Well, why don't you kindly put them up in parts ? His wisdom would be greatly apreciated.

  • @exarchives well, please, share the knowledge and upload the rest of it. :)

  • @exarchives would you sell copies for a nominal fee?

  • What real man wouldn't want to hang out with this guy? I would love to have a conversation with him, but real careful not to argue with him. I think he would kill ya and THEN kick yer ass!

  • Priceless, the guy suffered no fools.

  • Jones believed in training "heavy". And working out "heavy" will cover a multitude of sins (less than perfect form) in the gym.

  • He was a great man, man.

  • AJ is a god damn hero to me.

  • Awesome video, Arthur Jones was a genious!

Is there any chance you can get more of his videos?

  • Same voice as mike Mentzer...unreal!!!

  • He he he Funny comments Drew, Jones was the Best, hard as a rock, straight to the point, no poetry, PURE, DIRECT, no time to mess around,

HAIL 2 THE MAN, ARTHUR JONES..!

  • "How would you feel if you lived on an island populated, apart from yourself, exclusively by retarded, malicious, chimpanzees? Well, that's how I feel. Don't laugh, because you're one of those retarded, malicious chimpanzees."-Arthur Jones

  • Drew -- ever heard of physics, biology or logic? Your comments are nugatory at best. The bass blown your tympanic membranes and wiped your extroception? Guess physics, biology and logic are for chumps HUH STUDPLAYRICO? You're on tap man!

  • I supplied a slightly humorous quote by Arthur Jones. I don't know why you are bringing up physics, biology, and logic. Thanks for the big words. Stupid people like me forget them sometimes.

  • Nautilus Rocks and HIT is IT! - check out my videos and website for proof - Markus Reinhardt "High Intensity Trainer"

  • Love this clip !

  • Thanks for posting this video. I am just now discovering all of the Arthur Jones videos on youtube. Nautilus Machines are the best. I know all about HIT, etc.. If only we could hear the questions / comments from the audience. Oh well.

  • HIT works, Heavy Duty works. I am living proof. I am hoping to compete with in the next few years.

  • The genius of this man will never be realized because not enough people ever gave his methods a try.

  • Oh my god I love this video so much. I've come back to it probably 15 times now over the last few months.

  • Yes, I appreciate that you have very good taste. I have to get a new Digital Video Camera and may add more over time.

  • @Beethovens7th ..I've been back 5 times just today!

  • to this day the nautilus machine program has developed ZERO bodybuilding champions...although the nautilus pullover machine is the greatest weight machine ever invented

  • Really?, Dorian Yates was an advocate of HIT, Casey Viator, Sergio Oliva, The Mentzer brothers. In fact a lot of bodybuilders tried Jones' methods with great results. Dorian Yates was able to make great improvements on an already big physique. By the way Dorian was a 6 time Mr. Olympia. Take care.

  • if you look at dorians training routine he would for example do 5 sets of bench press..1st set 185 lb warm up..2nd set 225 warm up..3rd set 315lb warm up 4th set 405lb warm up..and then would do his so called working set of 495lbs..sounds like volume traing to me..and as far as sergio goes i have never heard of him doing HIT..sergio was said to have spent hours upon hours in the gym..viator..THE COLORADO EXPERIMENT..NUFF SAID...the experiment was a bunch of baloney...

  • You guys are mistaking the use of Nautilus machines with HIT. Big mistake. What's to stop someone spending 6 hours a day in the gym using only Nautilus machines? Or spending 15 minutes in the gym using only barbells???

  • arthur jones based his whole one set per exercise on his nautilus machines..thats how they are connected..he claimed thats all the muscle needs for a workout..ie HIT...

  • Arthur claimed his machines were better than barbells because they provide rotary-form resistance that is direct throughout the full range of motion and has a variable resistance (making the weight heavier when the muscle is in its stronger positions). That's why they're (apparently) the best. Intensity is another kettle of fish. So is volume. However, so long as the intensity is high, volume would naturally be lower otherwise you're not really training with much intensity.

  • Furthermore, Arthur argued that so long as the intensity is high, any trainee can make great progress using only barbells.

  • You need to inform yourself a bit more on Arthur Jones. In his articles he clearly states that his machines are not a must, he says you can get the same benefits from free weights.

He claimed higher intensity, brief workouts are a more efficient way to get results, he didn't claim its all the muscle needs.

  • Collin, Sergio trained with Jones at Nautilus prior to the 72 Olympia in Essen, where he was in the best shape of his life.

  • Sergio was ripped to shreds in 72 and should have won..but he got in that condition from dieting..he already had all the mass from years of volume training..

  • Well Sergio was full of praise for the result of the training. As far as all the mass from volume training goes, that was due to steroids and superior genetics, not volume training.

  • @collin355 But Sergio was also at his biggest after training with Jones, just compare the photos.

  • that would be from andogenics and anobolics not from jones

  • Sergio used androgenics and anabolics before training with Jones too. Do you think he was natural while training with high volume? C'mon.

His drug use was pretty much the SAME before training with Jones, during his training and after it as well. So, its safe to say that the training he did with Arthur Jones made a positive difference in his physique.

Still have doubts? Just check out Sergio's photos from 1971-1972 and you'll see the difference.

Need more proof? Sergio himself said so.

  • dude segio was about the same size in 72 as he was in 68...and to this day ALL pro bodybuilders do volumn training...as far as the colorado experiment goes..come on now..viator took along period of time off did'nt train did'nt do drugs and then juiced his brains out while training for that 60 day period..it's funny how jones never mentioned anything about viators steriod use during the 60 day period..jones was just out trying to sell his natilus machines

  • C'mon Sergio was the same size in 72 as in 68? I'm sorry to disagree with you here, but you're wrong. I've seen countless pictures from both years and Sergio was indeed bigger in 72. Actually, Sergio HIMSELF said he was at his biggest while training with Jones.

As far as the Colorado experiment, you have a good point on it, I actually agree with you. But juiced or not, the training still worked for him.

  • Yes, all pro bodybuilders today do volume training. I'm not trying to say HIT is better or volume doesn't work. Volume does work and it works great as it shows, but HIT ALSO works great as it shows too.

In my opinion, all that matters is training as hard as possible, some people can just tolerate and grow with more volume than others.

Why do you think Sergio improved so much with Jones? Because of Nautilus? No, just because he trained harder than before and was pushed to his max.

  • Dorian's training is still HIT. You need to understand that HIT is not only 1 set to failure, its not Heavy Duty. Warm ups are included in HIT and Dorian was still doing one working set per exercise NOT per muscle. No need to argue here though, because Dorian himself said he based his training on what he learned form Arthur Jones.

  • collin 355, there is actually an interview done to Sergio were he states he used HIT when was trained with Jones. He also admits he was at his biggest and that he should have stayed with him.

  • As far as the Colorado Experiment goes, it was true. Again, the man himself, Casey Viator, says it happened.

  • HAHA

    What a legend.

  • "That's pure bullshit."

    Classic.

Can anyone tell me exactly what the questioner was saying?

  • You can tell Arthur is at his wits ends with all of the misinformation going on in the fitness industry. It's no wonder he sold Nautilus the same year this seminar took place.

  • I spoke to him in more recent years and I told him he was lucky to get out when he did.

  • He was supposed to be smart, but he sounds kind of slow, to me.

  • He had a verified IQ of 172, which has a statistical frequency of 1 in every 260,000 people.

  • Can anyone say why he sold Nautilus in 1986 and how long the "vintage" style machines were still made (if at all) after he left the company?

  • What kind of mistakes did Arthur make that damaged his joints??

  • His misuse of the Barbell during Training long prior to his Nautilus Years.

  • explosive movments?

  • Explosive movements would be quick and jerky movements using some kind of resistance. Weight training movements of HIT should be slow, forcing muscles to take the stress

  • H.I.T. is the truth.

  • Fantastic - Arthur at his best, articulate, precise and no nonsense... Brilliant.

Jones, Sergio, The Mentzers, Viator and Yates, only 6 men who really seemed to know what training was about. The rest got there is spite of themselves - superior genetics and drugs, nothing more.

  • Yates took massive amounts of steroids , he even lost his hair at a giving moment in time

  • Arthur Jones Rocks!!
