The central rail in the back seat is a BAD IDEA. It wipes out a seat for the middle person in the back. It is NOT the "real joy" of the car at all.

Why can't they do a serious interior. Those seats, door panels and the steering wheel look like toys. It kind of tries to look serious from outside but from inside it looks just ridicilous.

Reason why I didn't bought a mini was the fact that is to much of a city car... for thoes of you that remember the top gear forfour review (24hr in a car), i honestly think that every smart forfour owner will definitely love this car (especialy since all Forfours in the world are at least 3 years old)

@bv90andy lol, obviously you have no concept of the business world. MINI is finally able to expand, and if they want a larger foothold in the US automarkets, this is a the best way to do so given the current climate. I think Mr. McDowell made a good point: about going from extra small to small. Remember that BMW is the driving force behind MINI, so if they say larger vehicles, themn larger vehicles we get. But its not like they stopped selling the Cooper.

@qazxnx08 the morris was always about small cars. If BMW is behind this then I understand, they probably made some research and saw that there are Americans who don't want to buy BMW branded cars but would love a Mini, but they are too small, so in order to make more money BMW is selling this garbage to the americans who can't understand the concept of "mini". In any case this is just shitting on the the whole history of mini and it destroys its soul.

@commiedog Rear doors are not for the 5th seat, are they? It's just easier to get in to make it more comfortable. That's also why they liftet the body up a bit.

I really love this car. A regular mini is just too small for me; but have been waiting to see this go into production for two years. This is a mini for real life. Love the styling and the practicallity. You purists need to get over yourselves.  Remember folks not everyone owns two cars. Grand slam Cooper.

@hazemvirus It's AWD and even if you buy it as FWD it has it's bonuses to the standard Mini. It's not meant to be a Jeep-like car for off road use. That's what most people get wrong.

What is the point of these cars? I can see the reason for a high driving position, but why 4x4? This winter, I have seen so many crossovers stuck in snow that a real 4x4 wouldn't break a sweat over. So why not just leave them as 2 wheeler.

They are not as good as the cars they are based upon or a proper 4x4. But this is the way the car industry is heading. cars that try to do everything but fail. Look at that stupid 4 door Porsche! Another pointless vehicle.

Unlike most people, I actually see the point of the Countryman, and I am a huge MINI fan and a former owner of a Cooper. One of the MINI's biggest issues is one of its smaller features, the back seat. The Countryman can actually hold human beings in its back seats. This will come in handy greatly for families and will help spread the MINI brand to a previously untapped demographic. Smart move by MINI in my book, well done. Cant wait to drive one. :D

Great little car, just think of it as a four door MINI. It also has the all wheel drive option, I just hope that the increased ground clearance doesn't affect its handling. For those that don't know. Crossovers are built on a car pan, and SUV's are built on Pick-up chasis rails.
