I might have felt the same way before I did the research. It seems some companies use aluminum to keep the vinyl from sagging on spans up to 12'. Anything longer then that they use pressure treated lumber. I feel better about using the lumber because it is a renewable resource and it added weight to the pergola which in this case, we really needed. Steel would rust. Thank you for the comment none the less. There may come a situation where Aluminum is the material we will use. Max Baldwin
