The S1 was NOT less advance than any of the other group B cars, indeed Audi had many development parts for the car which was going to run a reduced programme in 1986, the PDK box which debuted in Austria in 1985 the the RAC in 1985 was going to re introduced for mid 1986 so were revisions to the inlet manifold and turbo charger and some new light weight panels, the engine mods were going to give a further 40BHP (to 620BHP) and weight down 70KG to 1160KG it just was not mid engined

Secondly...The Audi won many rally events...including Pikes Peak, which It won 3 yrs in a row and still holds the record for fastest time up the mountain. Does Michelle Mouton, Bobby Unser or Walter Roelhe ring a bell??
The part about pikes peak is wrong, the record on pikes peak was driven by Nobuhiro „Monster" Tajima in a Suzuki XL7 Hill Climb Special. Röhrls record was beaten in 1994 already.
i don't understand why audi s1 is a cult object ; lancia delta s4 , P205 t16 was real advancet rally cars , quattro was almost stock car with stock bodywork and engine in front ; it didn't win any rally
