@jgoodness20 There are definitely some "generic reggae cover albums" which don't have a lot of artistic merit. But most of Tarrus Riley's music is original, and it's excellent. Look up "Start a New" for example.

Also, this isn't "bootleg" -- it was recorded on his album.

The historic reason for a lot of covers might be related to copyright--at least according to the wiki entry for ska.

I was in the barbershop in Toronto in 2007, just before the Cure came out of Jail n some argument developed and one man commented that Jah cure will be ineffective when he comes out because there's a new artiste by the name of Taurus Riley and i never believed him until i heard "She's royal" and "Beware," Then i new if Jah cure could find anything bigger than "True reflection" he's in trouble.
