LOL "They are telling us where we can and can't build bases"
WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU? To build ANY bases ANYWHERE? How about Iraq built a military base in texas? How about China builds a military base in california or Russia does it too.
@rolpho there wad also the Iran-US contra affair that ruined the Nicaraguan economy. There was also a case Nicaragua vs USA all a result of US imperialism
The invasion of Iraq was not a victory. The American government should compensate Iraqi citizens for going into Iraq due to bogus CIA reports. Now all that remains there are gravestones, a pulverized infrastructure and great political instability that has set the Iraqi people back generations. What is the US doing to rebuild the infrastructure of Iraq? Talk is cheap, Obama, show the Iraqis the money .
This host is an idiot. They hated America BEFORE any invasion. Throughout history Muslims have hated any group that was both a) not muslim and b) stronger than they were. The non-muslims that were weaker they were fine with because they could just make them dhimmis... but non-muslims that were stronger have always gathered the hatred of islam. And this can be proven easily with documentation as well as video evidence from before the war.
@annaknowsu i dont remember muslims hating america in 1900-1960 period, in fact they were good with americans, the real hatred u r seeing today is a result of the US expansion into the middle east, not necessarily the invasions, but all the US bases in what muslims consider to be HOLY LAND, how woudl u feel if muslims had military bases all across the US, according to ur logic non-muslims are hated amongst muslims, so then tell me why are chinese, japanese, etc, etc, not hated by muslims?
You can't be serious to think that the war against the secular dictator Saddam (one of the ministers was even Christian) had anything to do with Islam? Now, esp. Shia influence increases...
The US is the main ally of Saudi Arabia, was the ally of Islam in the cold war and the US has also supported the muslims of Bosnia and stands for the independence of Kosovo (including the 100% serb part republica srbska).
In the conflict between orthodox Christians and Muslims, the side of the US is clear.
Talks like this fucking scare me. I can't believe that a superpower, in the 21st century, can so brazenly invade another country without a proper reason and get away with it. What makes it even worse, is the the self-righteous, pomposity that the American politicians maintain about their actions and motivations.
"We must bear in mind that imperialism is a world system, the last stage of capitalism - and it must be defeated in a world confrontation. We must eliminate the foundations of imperialism: our oppressed nations, from where they extract capitals, raw materials, technicians and cheap labor, and to which they export new capitals - instruments of domination - arms and all kinds of articles; thus submerging us in an absolute dependence." — CHE GUEVARA
Should we have invaded, Saudi Arabia if that was the case.. Invading Afghanistan doesn't make sense..
If ____ country invaded the US, we would be mad as hell against ____ country, it would generate more resistance / terrorism. There's a behind the curtain purpose for Afghanistan.
Ok, we're supposedly there to "stop terrorism" but by occupying the country we're only creating more pissed off people.. Think of all the people who lost family members from collateral damage, they're going to be blaming the US, think of how big those families are, lets say there's 100 civilians that die, each civilian has a family of let's say 8 close family memebers that want to kill us.. If you think about it, invading was the worst thing we could have done. There's over 100,000 dead civ...
So if a relative of yours was killed on accident in a warzone, you would set of a bomb in a crowed area? That makes no sense. These people are motivated by their religion, no a dead relative. You can't say that all terrorists have dead relatives.
Thank You for speaking on the behalf of my community but you are dead wrong. My people are motivated to hate Americans because of American foreign policy that oppresses them not Islam.
thats like asking a soldier why hes fighting just because some unrelated extremists blew up a building across the country from him.
no ones more right. we're all brothers, leave your own shoes and step into his. if my relative was a civilian accidently killed by an unmanned aircraft because an impersonal romanesque empire across the world had interests unrelated to my life, and no one could hold them accountable, matyrdom would seem justified.
Imperialism is such a bizarre picture. It is almost always a mixture of greed for money, greed for power, religious indoctrination, cultural advancement, overthrowing of evil powers, and genocide. Both good and bad are always involved, but usually it's mostly terrible. We'll see what becomes of Iraq and Afghanistan. I despise their former governments so much I still think the wars have been justifiable. Time will tell.
Hey, here is a hint, instead of attacking his(Saddams) brutal government and the invasion of iraq why not worry about US government support of other even more brutal regimes throughout recent history. Death to Imperialism.
Like how we "supported" the Soviet Union by allying with them to stop the Nazis? The Soviet Union was our enemy. Sometimes alliances with enemies are necessary.
No! We supported "Blowtorch Bob" The Guatemalen "republican" who wished to usurp a democratic institution...its a fact. ARENA.... look it up, He slaughterd oposition and a couple of years later numerous conservative groups and the us gave him a banquet supporting "his inspirational efforts for freedom and peace worldwide". He states in the washington post that he needed to kill 200-300,000 guatemalans to make his government work. They silenced all press.
To be honest, I'm not really familiar with that. Wasn't it Cold War related? I don't at all say the United States hasn't done messed up stuff in the world. I was just saying it is often the case that working with scum is necessary and not the same as condoning all they do. I don't know how that relates to Blowtorch Bob. Maybe the U.S. government was involved in something really shady. It wouldn't be the first time.
"Cold War related" Yea...I guess...in the sense that Reagan and others use that term do describe governments that doesn't support our interest. Working with scum?? Never, history teaches that they will always abuse their power....and how will they be more favorable, usually the case is that they support "free markets" and US economic/military aid to their country...the regimes scratch our back, and we keep them in power.
Do you think the United States and the Soviet Union should have worked together (with Britain) to take down the Nazis? The Soviets were our major enemies, but we had to work together. Then, we had to take down the Soviets. Doing that involved wars and overthrows with a lot of their (supposed) allies. I don't know how many of those conflicts were necessary, but the U.S. government used our problem with the Soviet Union as the rationale.
Simply using something as a rationale or means of propagandistic rhetoric doesn't justify it...what the hell are you trying to say exactly? I know they used the threat of communism about everything...but not all terrorists as all communists are not created equal in terms of idealogy and policy/action...something reagan fails to mention..
I told you I don't know how many of the conflicts were necessary. I was just pointing out to you that there is a rationale to think about. There are two sides to every story.
No, there are a multitude of sides, not just two. You don't think I know there are other rationales beside my own?? Jesus...you must think everyone besides yourself is a complete tosser.
Ha ha, I was just pointing out the other side, or... another side. There are at least two sides to every story. How's that? You are dying to find something to argue with me about, aren't you?
I am just finding it really hard to understand man (or woman :) ), I mean..doesn't the means matter just as much as the end?? If our intention was spreading democracy there would be such ease in the way we could do it, Supporting the existing Democratic supporters is a way, they always pop up..But they are usually "Leftist" and want to reject US control...they want to remain sovreign..This cannot happen as no economic gain and diplomatic control comes from it.
the U.S. was an Empire since we started conquering native americans and stealing their land. why did we use force to annex land? leading to the genocide of tens of millions of innocent people???
Most colonial regions became dismembered from their conquerors...india, china, africa, south america...all were returned to the indiginous.
America is one of the few places that retained the foreigners and their descendants now rule over the land....the imperialist conquerors never left....tragically.
well that doesnt help your argument, weapons and technology always change, but the nature of people do not. you americans pay no attention to history, thats why your. doomed
the nature of americans never change? Jim Crow died 50 years ago, Obama was elected Pres, I could go on and on about how Americn nature changes, but its pointless. Pointing out that the USA has more wealth and ability than any other nation ever in the history of mankind is relevant because that is what helps a nation become and remain dominant. As long as the USA excells by leaps and bounds over all other nations in those categories, it will remain, rightfully, the world's only super power.
You're right that it is relevant, relevant because eventually the rest of the world is going to want what they deserve as human beings. The U.S. won't last much longer if it continues to try and hog all of the world's wealth and resources for themselves and take advantage of other nations through economic imperialism.
Rightfully? Please. The U.S. deserves to be destroyed for the kind of crap it has been pulling since WWII when it decided to become that only super power.
Roman empire was the most powerful for a long time...So were the Mongols. Empires come and go and we ALL know it. Soviet Union had 40,000 nukes! And their empire collapsed.
Imperialism should NEVER be allowed, under any circumstances.
Don't be stupid. Bush just signed a Security Pact with Iraq that gets all troops out of Iraq in 2011. Doesn't Chris Matthews look stupid now? Doesn't all these Ron Paul followers that were so convinced we were going to use Iraq to attack Iran look stupid now?
Now if we can get you Russian dogs to leave Georgia, Ukraine and the rest of the former Soviets states alone, then the world will be a perfect place. That's true imperialism.
jrigeli, like the guest in this video, you are clueless! A Security Pact!? If the puppet government in Iraq is not fortified by the U.S. military, it will be overthrown. The U.S. told them how it is going to be. The U.S. did not assist them in crafting a Constitution that all sides can buy into. Nope, instead, the U.S. uses Depleted Uranium Projectiles that has left dust throughout the country that emits gamma radiation for billions of years.
The fortified Green Zone is not protect the Iraqi government from being overthrown. It is to protect members of parliment from suicide bombers and the like. Even our Capital and White House buildings have barriers.
"The U.S. did not assist them in crafting a Constitution that all sides can buy into."
Iraq is getting ready to hold election within a month. This time all political parties are participating, no boycotts like the last time. So whoever gets elected, it's be the Iraqi people.
This is classic, the funny thing is this talking slave is actually finally telling the truth about why we invaded Iraq, though the trying to use it as a reason for it correctness. But when he says "zero " terrorist attacks on the U.S since we went to war." Wow ,that backward logic. This guy is the wrong guy to use for spin,he actually makes George Bush look clever. But seriously once again this is reveal the thinking of the "Political Cult" runing and ruining our country.
TOGO and all its monkey loving inhabitants. I say inhabitants because you can't realy live in a sewer, whose GDP is less than what an average worker at Ford makes in thirty years.
Where toilet paper is a luxury and you are considered wealthy if you have shoes. Where indoor plumbing is the dream of every citizen,
going to sleep hungary is the national pastime. Yeah you guys got it all figured out. "
Please make a HUGE difference between hungry [strong desire of appetite]& Hungary a Central European country! I am a Hungarian and definitely not hungry all the time at all. And have enough money to live it up!It is all about paying a little more attention to spelling mistakes! Thank you.
"Clinton was doing a great job defending America because there weren't any more attacks in his presidency since the 93 WTC bombing; and he did all that without having to Invade Iraq."
Wrong, the u.s. has been screwing Iraq for thirty years.
The first gulf war was a fraud.
The sanctions were a fraud.
The entire u.s. foreign policy is about plundering the planet for the private sector pirates and the international banking cartels.
It was possible to have this conversation in mainstream US media because, I suspect, at exactly that time, US politics was dabbling(?) with the idea of an early retreat from Iraq ...
Underlying all western imperialism is christianity....christian carry capitalism and hate first atheist as heretic, then communiscto as atheist and as an-capitalist... American imkperisliasm is Vatican imperialism since WW11. Before WW11 Pope use Franco, Muzzolini, Hiter, Ante Pavelic, Diem, etc, etc.. Before Franco, Pope use Lombards agasint Goths and Italians, Franks agaisnt Lombards, Normans agaisnt Franks, Britions, Britons agasint Irish, and all Europeans agasint South America...
Then you have to read them; but google them first .Atwill can be had online. They are now so central that I will not seriously discuss Christianity with people who have not read them... They are serious works. Read them and tell me what you think... They are incredibly central to your proposition...
Also GDP means gross domestic product, so a worker can't have a a GDP either (a salary maybe).
Interesting national pastime too. i don't think hungary has anything to do with togo.
Pretty sure they don't like monkeys because monkeys have learned to steal from humans...
And those conditions you're talking about have been created in Iraq and Afghanistan by our war, so maybe we should focus on fixing those problems in Togo rather than creating them elsewhere.
sorry i didnt get the analogy because it was poorly worded. however, according to the CIA factbook, Togo's GDP was 5.1 billion dollars in 2007 (a very bad year). I had no idea they made that much at Ford. I assume you mean per capita gdp, which sits at $900 and is less than a ford worker makes in a week and a half. I dont know how you can just accept that for what it is. i also assumed you thought the US ought to be involved in the world since as you say, "WE should TURN THE WORLD OVER to TOGO"
This guy is a fucking tool. "0 attacks in 5 years" at the cost of over 1,000,000 dead in Iraq... Yeah, they wont mind. This guy needs a good waterboarding.
Ah yes the old 'no attacks in ___ years argument' that we've been hearing since the first year after 911. By that logic Clinton was doing a great job defending America because there weren't any more attacks in his presidency since the 93 WTC bombing; and he did all that without having to Invade Iraq.
Another reasons why US invaded Iraq is because Saddam was planning to switch to Euro instead the dollar for its oil and other countries such as China have invest and loan heavily before the war. Once the global petroleum is gone, US will attack Canada for its precious water.
We already have Russia that craps on its people, as well as China, and now we have to have another dysfunctional tyranny or tyrannies in the Middle East, the real example of totalitarianism ... Islam. Burn it, and then burn Russia and China, but if we expect to do this we have to also fix the West too.
There are 190 countries on this planet and the US has troops in 130 of those countries.
The two pillars of US dominance are the dollar and the military the dollar is falling fast and once that goes the military will follow. The petro dollar recycling has kept America on top if Iran starts to sell oil under the Euro the US will lose dominance read up on it.
It's too bad most people actually believe elections actually mean anything, when clearly on public TV stations they show that electoral college is the one that makes all the votes count. Why electoral college speaks for the American people is anyones guess.
Guess again ---more like ONE MILLION dead Iraqis --all civilians --and counting. Looks like Bush just gave cause to generations of terrorists. And the last time I checked, even Bush's official CONSPIRACY theory did not list a single Iraq among the 911 hijackers. NOT ONE! The terrorist is Bush.
read my blog "20 Things I Learned as a 9.11 WTC survivor and an Marine in Iraq." You will enjoy it. In my myspace (Draft Finelli) under "older" entries.
By that logic Bush "got us" 3000 dead soldiers, 50+K dead Iraqis and endless "terrorist" attacks. You don't get to measure things two different ways in order to defend Bush and attack Clinton.
America's military is here to take casualties, unfortunately, that is their job. Not the innocent civilians that I had to jump over running out of the South Tower. Yes, it is also horrible that Iraqi civilians have died. That's Saddam's/Islamo Fascism's fault, not America's.
Yeah, and Bush got us 9-11 and 3000 dead American's in New York city. What's your fucking point asshole.
Reagan got us 278 dead Marine's in Beirut in 1983 as well. I was in bootcamp when that happened, and Reagan pulled every Marine out of there shortly after. So, with your logic Reagan was to blame long before Clinton showed up. Using your logic Ronald Reagan should have invaded that country in 83', but he had enough sense to know better.
No. History no repeat itself... British, Porguguese, French all christian countries... From French US take over in Vietnam.. Protuguese in East Timor with Church... and why so many, maybe 30 Jesuit Universities in India? Why?
And it was seven-eight years(93'- 01') between attacks before 9-11 so, your douchebag Republicans still owe me two years of saftey. By the way, good luck with that.
Who taught Tweety the i-word? He's not supposed to know about that. He's just supposed to holler about terrorists and haircuts and sexually harass the other MSNBC bimbos.

Nope, instead, the U.S. uses Depleted Uranium Projectiles that has left dust throughout the country that emits gamma radiation for billions of years.
lizardfirefighter110 3 years ago

Wrong, the u.s. has been screwing Iraq for thirty years.
The first gulf war was a fraud.
The sanctions were a fraud.
The entire u.s. foreign policy is about plundering the planet for the private sector pirates and the international banking cartels.

You are right sebreathnach. At least a part of western hegemony stems from the proselytizing nature of its predominant religion.

You are possibly the first person who has ever expressed such agreement... and yet, I believe it is as obvious as any picture You Tube!

Can I ask you: Have you read Francesco Carotta's 'Jesus is Caesar' or Joseph Atwill's 'Caesar's Messiah'?
sebreathnach 2 years ago
No I haven't. My fave authors are Noam Chomsky,Howard Zinn, Richard Dawkins, Jared Diamond, etc.
BBSROrissa 2 years ago
Then you have to read them; but google them first .Atwill can be had online. They are now so central that I will not seriously discuss Christianity with people who have not read them... They are serious works. Read them and tell me what you think... They are incredibly central to your proposition...

A sewer can't really have a GDP.
Also GDP means gross domestic product, so a worker can't have a a GDP either (a salary maybe).
Interesting national pastime too. i don't think hungary has anything to do with togo.
Pretty sure they don't like monkeys because monkeys have learned to steal from humans...
And those conditions you're talking about have been created in Iraq and Afghanistan by our war, so maybe we should focus on fixing those problems in Togo rather than creating them elsewhere.

coathanger49er 3 years ago
I surmise you didn't understand the analogy between the country of Togo and the Ford worker.
As for "monkey loving" maybe you should read a little about Togo.
Thanks for pointing out my misspelling.
Lastly, Iraq and Afghanistan's problems were there long before the U.S. entered the picture
and will be there long after we are gone.
It is not the America's role to rehabilitate the world.
Look to Burma to see what these despotic regimes do to their own. But I bet you will blame us somehow.
Vick0047 3 years ago
sorry i didnt get the analogy because it was poorly worded. however, according to the CIA factbook, Togo's GDP was 5.1 billion dollars in 2007 (a very bad year). I had no idea they made that much at Ford. I assume you mean per capita gdp, which sits at $900 and is less than a ford worker makes in a week and a half. I dont know how you can just accept that for what it is. i also assumed you thought the US ought to be involved in the world since as you say, "WE should TURN THE WORLD OVER to TOGO"
coathanger49er 3 years ago

Another reasons why US invaded Iraq is because Saddam was planning to switch to Euro instead the dollar for its oil and other countries such as China have invest and loan heavily before the war. Once the global petroleum is gone, US will attack Canada for its precious water.

America's military is here to take casualties, unfortunately, that is their job. Not the innocent civilians that I had to jump over running out of the South Tower. Yes, it is also horrible that Iraqi civilians have died. That's Saddam's/Islamo Fascism's fault, not America's.
