Cloud is the only person that has ever shown the ability to fight Sephiroth on equal terms, and actually best him on more than one occasion. While I don't doubt that Sephiroth is not using his full power, it's clear that Cloud is not to be underestimated either.

I honestly think that one of (if not the main) reasons Sephiroth has lost to his nemesis because he severely underestimates Cloud's resolve and will to fight on.

His pride is ultimately his downfall.

Kadaj absorbed the Jenova cells, which caused his own Sephiroth DNA to multiply, making him into a full fledged Sephiroth replica. When he grew his wing, he was at roughly 55% full power.

So basically, Cloud only won the fight because he was fighting a fake.

@Shadowyconman actually 33% all in all, there were three remnants, kadaj was his insanity and ideals, loz was his strength and speed and yazoo was his likeness and perhaps insanity if you count speeding up a broken motorway and flying through a helicopter and shooting it down from inside lol.

so yeah if all three remnants had been there and absorbed the cells, cloud would've had a bigger problem.

I think there might have been three just to increase the chance of ressurection. If all three of them had absorbed the cells, maybe he would have been stronger, but I'm pretty sure that what cloud fights is the ressurected Sephiroth, not just a clone or a copy.

As a pathetic Sephiroth fangirl, I looked into it and found out that the real Sephiroth hasn't been been back since he took a dive at the reactor during the Nibelheim incident. Kay, so he died and figured out how to control clones of himself from the Lifestream. That's what happened in Final Fantasy VII and in Advent Children, Kadaj said he could "feel him" which means he could feel Sephiroth pushing him onward.

Nobody was willing to drag his crazy ass out of that gross Mako in the Nibelheim Reactor. If I remember right, there wasn't even anything left to retrieve. The Mako burned him away. This Jenova stuff means that he could keep coming back as long as there's Jenova cells. Thanks, Tetsuya Nomura...

If jenova is still out there somewhere (the real one somehow) or just clones and fragments of her then he'll keep coming back as long as she's still out there since jenova's his mother.
