Is UT3 still popular? I used to play the original UT casually when I was much younger and I had a great time so I'm considering buying UT3. Obviously I'd be playing for the multiplayer, and not just cheating against bots with the redeemer because I liked the announcer shouting ma ma ma ma ma monsterkill at me continuously, hence why I ask the game's popularity. Also, why'd you stop these videos? A game like this needs videos like yours made by people with your experience!
@Terrr05 when I made these in 2009, there were an avg of 500 people online. UT3 never reached anywhere near the popularity of UT1. I would have been willing to continue doing these if Epic would have continued supporting the game but they didn't. If and when they decide to put out another UT update I will consider doing more Mastering UT stuff.
@Terrr05 they said they wanted to spend time on developing new intellectual property. But recently Mike Capps hinted that they may go back to the Unreal universe soon. We'll see.
@VoxHouseStudio Intellectual? What's not intellectual about UT?! Funnies aside though, do we have any idea what they were referring to by "intellectual property"? I tried the demo of this last night by the way. I play FPS games pretty frequently but the last one that made me stop blinking so I could pay attention was Rainbow Six 3. The UT3 demo did that to me again last night. I got off after an hour or two and realised my eyes felt like stone ha ha.
@Terrr05 I bought UT3 some days ago and I can tell you, there are still many players in online matches. For a noob like me it might be very frustrating loosing against pros everytime, but still the game is much fun. I used to play ut2003 back then as a kid, so theres kind of a nostalgic feeling to it :D
thanks. the driving tank backwards thing really works. I figured out a nice tactic in torlan. I'm not sure if ut3 has a hellbender in your powercore, but if the enemy controls the node that links to you powercore, get a fully manned hellbender or cicada and you'll easily take it back. In 2004, there is an uneven terrain at powercore. you can either use a manta or raptor to pelt the powercore and when you see shots coming after you, duck down.
I will never forget dumping about 100 hours into ONS - Torlan in the UT2004 demo. I have never ever had a better gaming experience for free. Best. Demo. Ever.
could you please make a video that explains the rules of this thoroughly? ive had this game for a few months now and ive played it im sure over a 100 hours but i still have no idea about this game mode
Nice vid. Commentary is very helpful. I'm not good at UT3, but I love it and want to get better, and stop being frustrated and a detriment to my team. Looking forward to seeing more vids!
i currently hold a record of points as well. 1076...although this isnt that impressive due to the fact it was a torlan game first team to 100 points haha. i couldnt bear going anymore after playing long enough to get those 1k points. on another note your videos are absolutely wonderful. taught me a lot even though im a veteran of the game. you may or may not recognize the name Gimpy313.
Warfare is all I play nowadays besides BTA TDM, there are hardly any Greed servers running lately.. But, the thing is that I am in Europe, and so normally I only play European servers. I remember in Greed there were a couple of US based servers I joined regularily. Got tired of the ping though.
I did used to play mostly as Bersy, my forum nick.
As I've said there are many alternative strategies one could use, sometimes I go for the prime, it depends how quickly I want to finish things ;)
That's a pretty major and broad subject, the things that could improve your aim can range from what mouse sensitivity you use, to how relaxed you are. If you typically have a high ping, you could try leading your targets a bit. That means aim not directly at them but slightly ahead of them in the direction they're moving. But not too far, just outside their edge. Use the default crosshairs to your advantage - they turn red when you hit, so experiment, watch carefully what works and what doesn't.
In UT the aim is all about predicting. When you can predict where your enemy wants to go you're hit rate will increase. What I mean is, instead of aiming on his body and shooting with the Rocket Launcher (example weapon) you have to aim where you think he goes next.
Really nice guide indeed.I'm a warfare player also.Good job in cicada too most people underestimate the 2ndary gun wich is a great way to deal with raptors that fly lower then you.
Only remark i have on this is that i always like playing without invisible weapons myself, wich gives me a clearer view of my surroundings but thats just personal taste.
Thanks. I suppose you must mean you prefer playing WITH invisible weapons.
I have different profiles, and some use invis weap and some don't. Personally I am used to both and it doesn't affect my playing much. For the purposes of making videos geared to new players, I would say it is better to show the weapon, because new players would otherwise have a difficult time grasping what I am doing.
Oh btw another question what's the name of the cat burglar jump map in the end it looks fairly basic white map and you cat burglar jump into the window would like to have it to test the catjump.
It is just a test map I built for my own purposes, I wouldn't really care to distribute it to be honest, but it is really simple to build in unrealed. all you basically need to build is a wall with a hole subtracted through it. If you are desperate for it though pm me your email and I will try to send it over later.
VoxHouse, I have to say, you are absolutely my favorite UT3 player. Everything you do carries with it a strategic and/or tactical weight and is done for very direct and specific reasons. Like in Chess, every move you make is geared towards checkmating the enemy prime, rather than taking it at small steps. Very impressive.
I guess it comes with experience carried over from UT2004 Onslaught. When I played in ladders we were forced to think hard about strategy including what to do at the beginning of the game. Often the first minute of the game makes or breaks it. And then once you get to their prime you have to know what to do to hold it. It's more difficult in Warfare because of the Orb but the principles are more or less the same. I'd rather focus on node strategy than dick around in a manta.
Even with him attacking the enemy base while the enemy-prime isn't captured, he isn't really spawn-killing. He is mostly attacking around the spawn areas but not spamming the spawn-points themselves.
Not sure if that was intentional (hoping it was). Why should you not just spam the spawn points? Because the more you do it, the more it'll be done to you and it becomes old very fast when you can't spawn. In the end it's about having fun, for both teams.
Well yes it's intentional, to me just spamming the spawn points directly would be boring and not a challenge at all. They had a chance to fight back, which makes things more interesting.
And when enemy team was much stronger and i had 1 guy, who understood my tactics (i was shouting to microphone, so he knew english seems :D ), we hold our prime for more, than 20 minutes. While he was teleporting/dying i was flying back, pickup the orb again and going for prime to recapture it :) teamwork is very important!
you should use raptor more wisely. Leaving orb carrier to get to the node by his own is a big mistake. What i do every game in torlan when i have raptor and no other n00b took it before me is lifting up an orb carrier and putting it right into the node you want to capture. then the guy who had orb teleports back and you come back with raptor and you do same actions over again. If your team helps you to hold captured nodes you are able to win the enemy in 1 minute, if it is weak enough.
Right, there are plenty of things I could have done differently if I was only focused on winning in the quickest possible time. I wanted to play an average game and show what a player could do to help his team. There are countless other ways Torlan can be played :)

@VoxHouseStudio It startles me that they can just drop such a big name franchise, one that has been so influential on the FPS genre.

you ought to shoot that "sphere covered with little flat panels" on a node instead of its "body".

Vox I've seen you online as your website address in Greed, but never in Warfare. Do you have another alias?
Overall good commentary. I would add that you should adjust your actions depending on the skill level of your teammates.
For example having the Raptor taxiing orb initially, easily executable with relatively experienced players.
Also commenting on alternate strategies you could have used, such as immediately attacking enemy prime after either east or west comes up.
