The stunts are awesome, but not crazy. All these skills can be safely learned and mastered. The Cheer groups, however, don't care about the stunts, only the money, so it is easier to ban stunts than to teach them.
You are absolutely right. The restrictions were applied because of the high number of catastrophic injuries that have occurred. The different groups running competitions faced higher insurance rates, so they chose to save money by eliminating the skills. The answer is to draft an developmental program that progressively teaches stunts for age group and level competitions like the USAG program.
I couldn't agree more, ADofTexas. What we see today (which bores me to tears) pales in comparison to the routines in the 80's. It's amazing what they came up with back in the day. PLEASE post more if you can.
you know i think its partly because of all the rules & restrictions (same thing) but all of them dont allow the present day teams to do these awesome stunts because of danger and height and all that...it would be so cool to have more innovative and slightly riskier stunts
They won't even let guys on los al cheer anymore /:

Oh My gosh the stunts are crazy.
I wish we could-do things like this now a days.
but any thing that looks even just a little difficult is called for an illegal stunt.

Yes, and I believe cheerleading has gotten worse not better, which is why I have posted these routines online.
