@SameshitdifdayFails Well they messed it up from the start I guess because the sequal annoyingly holds more truth in it, she was far too young to be with John Smith and they were never romantically involved, she did indeed marry John Rolfe but yes! They should have left the first movie altering her history and left it at that, not try to go back on themselves and make it truer! pffft what a total mess they made, not to mention this film's unbelievable and 2nd is crap!
I always thought of this scene, this moment (0:32 to 1:33) as the scene that let you know you are in for a good movie, that you didn't waste your money on this movie, you didn't waste your time watching this movie, and I always thought that the ending of Pocahontas was the scene that let you know you just saw the most beautiful Disney movie ever made, I mean especially the music too.
Pocahontas has the best Disney Soundtrack too, and this video and the ending is why.
my fav scene, i can watch this scene over n over again haha, but omg the MUSIC for this mysterious beautiful MOMENT especially the way he first looks at her, hes just totally love strucked n so is she..*sighs* im still waiting for my John Smith :D
@YenTwiHeart As far as most people go, the sequel never happend. Disney I believe now considers it non-canon to. John Smith is still Pocahontas' boyfriend.
I love this scene :) okay so if anybody wouldn't mind, could you check out a video i made of pocahontas and john smith? I just made it! Warning, it is the first video i've edited on windows movie maker so don't be too harsh :) i'll leave a video response also! Thank you :)
It's almost like...when he put down his gun, it was the moment where he abandoned his discrimination, and sought to understand the strange, but beautiful woman before him. Very symbolic.
Ya see, this is what I love about Disney movies: I learn so much stuff from 'em. Here all this time, I thought Pocahontas was a 12 year old American indian girl, when the Jamestown colony got there. Now I know that she was a fully-grown Cambodian-looking woman, who fell in love with an immaculately groomed white explorer.
This is absolutely the most beautiful "love at first sight" scene in Disney history. I always get shivers! I don't care how old I get, this kind of Disney I grew up with as a kid will never be old to me.
@ArtemisThorn I agree. This is probably the most beautiful introduction in Disney history. The scene where the mist clears and he sees her is just breathtaking!!
Lol i bet he's didn't shoot cuz he remembered he'd just jumped through a waterfallnd if he'd fired the gun would have blown up in his face. Wet gunpowder!
@cassiedarlingalways I'm more for the scene where they kiss while John is being held captive and his arms are tied behind his back :D I learned what lust was through that scene at the tender age of 4. But that may just be the sadist in me that loves that scene. But yes this scene is extremely sexy too.
Does anyone actually like the second movie? I felt like they messed it all up -- how Pocahontas didn't even MARRY John Smith instead some otha man! That movie is just MESSED UP! I will always love the first one, though :)
@MultiArtist13 Both movies are based on the history of it, and in history Pocahontas ends up with John Rolfe, NOT John Smith...but still, John Smith shuldve married her, this movie was EPIC
To everyone commenting on the fact that she was about 12 years old when they met... John Smith also wasn't aryan, he was an ugly older man with a large beard, there were no musical numbers or talking trees, pocahontas and john smith never met before she saved him, she couldn't speak english until she learned much later in her life, the two were never in love and so on... it's a children's movie, not a documentary, just try and enjoy how beautiful this scene is, k thanks :) <3
I grew up with this movie with swedish voices so it feels kind of weird to hear them talk in english, and by the way, I don't like that she talks in the native language with american accent :P
Anyway, this movie was a masterpeice in every way - the second one was soooooooo bad, I just pretend they never made it! :P
@IreneMarie94 lol, sure, when they met she learned english by believing and leaves started to spin around her. and all i said was she was very young when they first met and in the movie, she looks a lot older.
I have no idea why they made the second movie. They should have ened it with this one. It's like they make this whole love story, then totally transform it and make it backwards in the next film. Really. They should have ended with this beautiful love story, instead of her betraying Smith and marrying Rolfe.
@chopchop8916 ikr, I could've done without the part 2. In fact I try to forget it exists. I spent the entire movie rolling my eyes & mentally telling Rolfe to go the fuck to hell, there's no way he's coming between Pocahontas & John Smith their love is real, even if it is fiction :) They are by far the most beautiful & genuine Disney couple.
am i the only one that noticed that the princess always seems to run from the prince at some point? Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Belle, Pocahontas, Ariel...
LOVE THIS! It's intense and passionate and filled with all kinds of longing--and yet, not a word is spoken. This is the best hero-meets-heroine in all Disney films!
@1:59 WTF why is she speaking a different language and she was speaking english a few minutes ago weird. Anyway I also liked the romance between John & Pocahuntas I wanted her to run off with him in the end of the movie. Pocahuntas is one selfish princess grrr .
@Disney65Fan It's because she really doesn't understand him until you can hear the "listen with your heart, you will understand" song playing and she listens to it and voilaaa...she can suddenly understand him.
@Disney65Fan I think its because they speak English for us to understand, but she would be speaking in a different language really, its what it would sound like to us...to John :D Then 'listen with you heart' allows her to understand him :)

Of all the disney princesses, Pocahontas possesses not an amiable nor a charming personality. She is very different maybe because she's isolated. But honestly I find her very compelling. Especially during 0:41-0:45, a very spirited girl. Very serene and very very different. I just dont like the part 2, Its not her and john smith that ended, well at least on the real pocahontas story, it was really the other john whom he ended up with. I love pocahontas, very inspiring
