Hi, I have a chrysler cirrus 1998, the maximum road speed is only 65 miles per hour, arriving at this speed the rpm drop to 1000 and does not accelerate more to reducing the speed you think is the problem in transmission or a computer problem ... when the slope and neutralized achieves a transmission exceeded the 65 mph but speeds are 1000 rpm speed even try ... I hope your answer thanks
i love honda the only problems is tranmission my family love all them had same problems i never give-up but this time 2x replace tranmissiom 03 tl type s ..we love toyota.now 6 year no problems..
You might wanna see if your car is govern. Most cars come with it now a days where it only allows a the engine to rev so high and speed so fast in order to ensure the life of the engine.
ok i have a 2003 grand prix 3800 automatic trans . it started changing gears really hard but would still go i kept a check on the fluid but one day it just wouldnt go in to first gear if i was going down hill and it got over 40 mph it would shift higher but i cant get it to go from 1st to second??? took it to a repair shop they want 2 grand to rebuild any thoughts!!!!!
@tabbywingo. 2 grand for a rebuild...id find someone that knows what the hell their talking about with transmissions and have them check sensors. my grandpas 6.2L diesel wouldnt shift out of 1st either and it turned out to be a sensor but the chevy dealer where i live wanted to do a rebuild aswell. worst case you need a new tranmission but hell i found one for my old car at a junk yard for 350, possibly the same exact transmission depending on the year.
@Jthumper hahaha me to! but hey mine is doin somethin weird to like it shifts fast but when i hit 40 - 50 mph and let go the gas it sounds like overdrive kicks onwtf
I have a 1995 Lincoln TC, that has a fairly newly rebuilt engine and trans, and out of the clear blue after I started the car I tried to manual shift it into drive and it won't budge? Y?
Acceleration even little bit, locked up the 4th gear. So the TPS had worn down from "steadydoing" pos. Subaru has kickdown switch below gaspedal, normally shifts to lower gear when it clicks on.
yeah the maf the tps and the throttle body itself can fuck with you and you wouldn't expect it at first. always a good thing to have it checked/cleaned
If its shifting to the 2nd gear you shold be able to go around 40 miles or even higher probably you are not shifting up it may be your lockup clutch inside your torque converter thats giving you the shifting kick. Do you have a scan tool?
if is it broken, the computer doesn't now if it should send the gases to the end of the exhaust or send them back to the engine. I have that problem on my car
Yea, what was happening was the TPS voltage was maxing out while you were cruising which basicly was telling the computer that you floored the throttle so the computer responded by commanding the transmission into passing gear (dropping it to 3rd gear). I see this a lot.
it depends if your like alittle over on the full line your ok. But if you are a quart or more over you better get the excess drained. It can mess up the transmission.
I would guess if you are really going 110-120mph then the cars electronic speed govenor is kicking in. Your car will slow down and speed up on its own as the governor kicks on and off.

looks like the torque converter clutch switch is bad. you have to take off the pan to fix this, can be done in a couple hours in your driveway.

My 95' Legacy had a problem like that,
seems there was some leaks and the trani fluid was low. i toped it off and there we go, added 12oz of Transmission Fix.
Mr Lub brand and it stoped the leaks and made the gears smoother., greta to use just to keep ur trani clean anyway.

broken vacuum line.
KapteinOpel 3 years ago
Maybe in your case. Mine was solved long time ago.
Protege16 3 years ago
It would be a typical problem,if the vacuum drops it will have the same effect on the box as giving throttle, and it will upshift late.

is it bad if the tranny has to much oil in it.
uri112189 3 years ago
it depends if your like alittle over on the full line your ok. But if you are a quart or more over you better get the excess drained. It can mess up the transmission.
jimmy101112000 3 years ago
I think overfulling can cause oil pressures in wrong places in transmission.
Protege16 3 years ago
Yeah or blow out seals too. It could mess with how the check balls in the valve body work. But I image it would do what you said.
