@KMWCOOL Marines are the most distinguished fighting force in the world. He would be proud of you no matter what branch of service you decide to join. My father, uncle, great uncle, and great-grand father were all in the Marine Core. My grandpa on my mothers side was in the Army. I'm going to be the odd one and join the Coast Guard. Regardless, the Marine Core is the most elite fighting force on the planet.

I served from 1982 - 2008, up until 1989 I was Enlisted than went through what's known as The Mustang Program. Saw my share of fighting through my time in the Corps, Beirut was my first Combat Action in Nov/1983. We went in to relieve the 8th marines After a truck full of explosives ran the barrier taking out approx 300 Marines and Navy Personnel, I was with 2nd Bn , 6th marines.

The hardest Part of being a Marine for me was not the IED that ended my career, it was getting out of a brotherhood.

@DCSCOTT1961 I served fom 01 to 04 and recieved a medical discharge after an R.P.G hit my humvee leaving me def in my left ear and shrapenal in my left leg there are still fragments in my thigh bone. do you know any program to help me get back in being def. my right ear works fine even if I can't go back to the infantry as a 0331 or even go infantry at all. civillian life is killing me. if you know of any way please let me know thank you and Semper Fi Marnie god bless.

@hoorah251 I'm not sure there is much that can be done. Perhaps you can get a civilian job on base if you are not allowed to return to being in the military. However, I'd like to thank you for your sacrifices. It's because of people like you that this country became free and continues to be free. Semper Fi!
