i support watford and newcastle, so this is the perfect video... and it's on the day b4 my birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Come on you 'Orns (they'e playin later)
Gutted I missed this because as a college student I didn't have the £2 admission for the Vic Road terrace (programmes were 20p)! Could hear the crowd from our house in Marlborough Road.
I was a big Watford fan but missed my train from London that day decided to go anyway only to find watford up 4-0 at half time, so glad i saw the second half
i remember this day well, i had to go and visit my new girlfrinds parents in cambridgeshire and it was the first home game i had missed for a good few seasons, i heard the 4-0 half time score on the radio and was nearly in tears at full time! Needless to say the relationship didnt last long after that. Thanks for posting these, first time ive seen them, worth the wait
Spare a thought for this 18 year old(ish) Sunderland fan. Stood behind the goal having to watch that. Character building indeed. I'm sure Watford hit the woodwork many times that day and we had an early goal disallowed....we wuz robbed lol. Watford were incincible that day and I've seen us stuffed by all the so-called top teams since, but never that clinically.
I should have mentioned this before..but the Sunderland supporters were fantastic that day.
I remember them doing the conga when 4 or 5 down..mock celebrations of the last couple of Watford goals..and a good number stayed till the end to applaud the Watford players.
A real credit to the North East region and football in general.
Your a good man Stevo - I do remember being there until the bitter end and singing "we're gonna win the league" A couple of years later we won a (milk) cup game down there and Elton John was full of praise for our support that night - I remember the newspaper headlines saying how Sunderland's vocal support was top of the pops lol. This was during the hooligan years/era so a welcome change. I've been to Watford many times now and always a decent game and no hassles. All the best
As a long suffering SAFC fan it is Watford's ground I have visited most often over the years, 14 now, and I missed a couple. Always enjoyed the trip round the allotments. (Well almost always;P)
I edited the z-cars theme onto the clip myself. It has been played before every game at Vicarage road since the mid 60's (Everton also introduced it at Goodison around the same time) and is the tune most associated with the club.

Watford were a deadly squad back in the day. And they still would be if people didnt buy Foreign players :P

The 4th goal sums up Watford in that era - long ball, but deadly!!

Love that scoreboard. Very fun for the time.
Silly question: What was with them playing "Z Cars" after the final goal?

Ironically it was also Sunderland's theme tune in the 60's and 70's as well
