I think the problem with religion is often the way it is interpreted. However irrespective of your religion everyone knows right and wrong don't they? Shouldn't we all just live life the best way we know how? Killing and punishment for something like what this woman did is insane - surely anyone can see that? We should be worried about rapes, murders and all the evil things happening - not naming a teddy bear Mohammed! :(
Interesting....that Allah, the maker of our vast Universe would really care about how a women wore her hair? Considering that the teeny tiny planet Earth is in the outer suburbia of our Solar System. Not even in the center of anything and soooooo insignificant?
Sounds more like the invented rules for women by illiterate uneducated desert bedouin men that are fearful of superior women?

Ok I'm a Muslim, but do we have to answer for everything a maniac or a group of maniacs do in the name of Islam. It's like if a Muslim farts (excuse the language) everybody points at him/her "look at what the Muslims did". It wasn't like that before 9/11. Thanks go to Osama, who's hurt this religion more than anybody I know.
Incidents like this (with the Teddy Bear) and the Danish cartoons demonstrate how the lack of a central Islamic authority allows for widely divergant applications of "Islamic" law. What is blasphemy? Who is the authority that I can appeal to find out? What is "spreading corruption" in the land? What is the punishment(the Quran says cut a leg and arm off, kill, or expel). Any self-described Iman can issue his own Fatwa for his own purposes. Where is the authority that will tell him he is wrong?
In Islam, there is no central authority. We do not believe in a.. well in lack of a mbetter word "Middle-man." Each human is responsible for their own actions and it's his/her responsibility to "think" instead of being told what to do. Their beliefs, and interpretations of the Qur'an, must be well studied and thought out as they will be held accountable for them on the day of judgment. This is why when an "imam" makes a "fatwa" he too will be held accountable for it as well as all those he
misled. But mostly, its the individuals own fault for following without crtically thinking or questioning. The Qur'an clearly states, time and again, to question everything. This includes fatwas, and the Islamic Shari'ah and the religious interpretations of other people. I hope I atleast somewhat answered your question.

SabzST:
Interesting that you don't think that in Islam there is a "middle-man"? So who was the angel Gabriel? And why do you even need an "imam" or Mullah's to give you their interpretation of Allah's words? Are you getting your "believes" directly from the throne sitter directly?
Agree with your thinking, except for the final fear based judgment thingy.
Maybe you can tell me when & where the Qur'an was written? How many versions even during Mahounds time? How many versions 200 years later?
Let's start with the first question: No middle-man. Gabriel is an Angel.
We don't need an Imam or Mullah to give interpretations. But let's say something was unclear, like the meanings of old classical arabic words used in the Qu'ran, the imams and mullahs are usually PhD holders in Arabic and Islamic Studies. So they would be more credible to answer questions, or make fatwas. not always ofcourse, afterall they are human, no?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Impressive, at the young age of 20 you have all the answers. Though Mohammad was 40 when he started hearing "bells clanging" in his head & stood on the street corner in Mecca for 10 years before being forced out & headed to Medina. Then from the age of 50 to 63 he turned preacher to Political leader.
Gee, it even took him 23 years to invent Islam & 12 years for the Angel Gabriel to "speak in his ear", right?
Imams & Mullahs get PhD's. Oh really? Would that be from the studies of only one Side?
1. Do you know any sacred text (Bile, Torah, etc.) which has been memorized letter/word-perfect? So there must be something about the Quran that has enabled 1000s to memorize it.
2. When the Muslim, under the Prophet (PBUH) "conquered" Mecca, not a single person was harmed--including those who had killed people closet to the Prophet. Can you point to any such conquest in history?
in the Qur'an and clarified in the Hadith (reported sayings and actions of Prohphet Muhammad).
The Qur'an was written down immediately during the times of the prophet on "luhaf" which is dry skin (used to be used in those days as paper is nowadays) and very thin rocks. However, it wasn't put together and collected as one book until 60yrs later, while the khalifas (the prophet's close friends and Islamic leaders) and wives were still alive. This book was replicated over and over again throughout
SabzST...would that be the Qur'an that's not in Chronological order, where the first verse invented or taken from early Jewish texts in really #96? It is true that 90/95% of ALL hadith's were deemed fictional & were chucked?
Where did you get the story of the dry skin & thin rocks? Wasn't verses saved from palm leaves, sticks & the shoulder blades too?
You sure on the date of 60 years? Maybe closer to 200 years of the earliest dated Qur'ans?
You should never rely on a single source for information without exception. But it would be foolish to not watch Fox, Spiegel, Al Jazeera, CBC, Guardian...etc just because you do not agree with their take on things. Newspapers in Canada and Europe are far more biased (without exception) then in the USA (since they tend to mix editorials with the news articles). In the US, the editorials are separate.
After having lived in Europe, I was surprized that so many people find a paper that fits their view, read only that paper, and abide by its opinion religiously (like Brits with BBC). For one to get a true picture, one needs to read at least 10 papers. Palestinians are stupid to not read Israeli papers and Israels are stupid to not read Palestinian papers. There are lots of stupid and lazy people out there.
NYPost is a cheeseball tabloid newspaper anyhow. True though that the world does not focus on the real tragedies in the world. There is plenty of hypocrisy around. Look how the hyper-rich Gulf Arab countries lack of help (or even discussion) of the starving Somali people or the muslim on muslim genocide going on in Sudan. Israel just cut off fuel supplies to Gaza, you would think the arab world would make up the shortfall.
While reading some of the below comments I was not offended but just amazed about how many imbeciles and idiots commenting about a religion they know nothing about it.
your religion is backwards and has no place in a tolerant and democratic west where freedom of speech and freedom of will is not suppressed. your prophet was a paedophile and a warlord who slaughtered people who would not yield to his illogical beliefs
As-salamu Alaykum... I'm in UK, so i dont know what the American newspapers contain in them... BUT this is just nonsence, look at what the west has turned to :|... A'uthubillah
The bombs ranged from two nail bombs outside primary schools (one exploded) plus dozens outside homes. Some were pipe bombs, nail bombs, improvised explosive devices and others car bombs.
In my town, several brutal machete attacks took place this new year plus several shootings including a fatality. We've also had more bombs here than the entire Muslim population of the UK have ever detonated.
Of course, this is barely reported because there is no political gain in reporting it.
But with Muslims having the oil - you can bet that Muslims just waving a Machete may be front page news.
Wonderful clip, I totally agree with you. Jazaki Allahu khairan.
I find it extremely annoying that "Arab/Muslim gov/leaders" try to stand up to pathetic and unimportant issues while they ignore the death and misery of Muslims in Palestine, Iraq, Chechnya, Somalia etc... Shame on them all.
If u girl are getting sick and u think that the media is so pathetic, then I suggest for u to go where u think it's better..., I'll pay u the ticket (one-way) 4 maybe some muslim country, where u can't criticise anything!
I agree that US is not the perfect country, but it's one of the best and it's not "pathetic"!
sensualdog - so everyone who disagrees with you should be sent to some other country with one way ticket? You know what? You are pathetic piece of garbage.
No, I sayd if they are not happy they allways can go to somewhere else, if they want to!Because if I don't like it here, I would go back in my country or where it's better.. got it?
But I wouldn't go anywhere because we all know that western world is the best u can get in this planet earth, got the best FREEDOM and RIGHTS!
It is possible that the Sudanese government is not actually true Muslims. There is much evidence to suggest that Muslim nations have been as infiltrated be Freemasonry as we in the U.S. have. If this were true then this propaganda is intended to further promote a negative image for the Muslim faith. Why else would the story gain such prominence.
This type of propaganda helps build public support for the U.S. to stay its course in its wars against Muslims.
lol.hahaha.. but u got a lot of darnit what's that word when somebody proposes to a girl. Oh yea propositions, proposas, proposals. Airite there Proposals.
As a journalist, perhaps you'd like to make a video debunking some of the extremist views on here from hardcore fundamentalists? The specific issue I had in mind was immigration and the subsequent desire to set back the clock on things like medically necessary abortion and gay rights. I've yet to seen these dealt with by anyone but Obaid Karki. Thanks. I will add you to my friend list so that you can post back to me if you want.
hahaha u make me laugh because it's ridiculous to say those things about immigration in western countryes.. start from the extremes: In islamic countryes, those things are not accepted at all, people that want abortion or someone that happens to be just gay will be killed! Why not put journalist attention also on these things, besides killings of innocent people in Palestine, Iraq & so on?
Uh because journalistic attention has been put on those areas. Yes does more need to be done? Certainly. Please lose your attitude sensualdog because you dont need to be a smart ass with me
listen...i am a muslim and i can clearly say that no where in the Quran it says that a person who calls an object Muhammad shud be punished...it is implied that is bad thing...and it is frowned upon...but muslims in sudan are fundamentalists(extremists) we are all not like that...that woman shud be forgiven...she didn't know it wud cause a fuss...and i am sure she is a good human being...ppl in sudan are giving us muslims a bad name...
Hello, Dersision is a part of our way of life. Nobody enjoys it when it is vindictive or persistent but it is a vital and valuable thing. we do not like to see other people made treated badly but it is quite normal to have fun poked at you, whoever you are. Think of the derision that George Bush suffers from a great many quarters.Likewise our queen who we love and admire. Quite simply your a good person but get over it.
Luftiqus, stoning, lashing, sexism, have nothing to do with Islam. Martella is 100% correct. Islami is not a barbaric religion, where do these idiots get off speaking for the rest of us? Anyone who thinks the teacher deserves to die, is a neanderthal. Amen Martella- great job.
Well, the Sudanese are responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of muslims because they were considered BLACK..er. So, this teddy beargate, which is honey to western media outlets, is no surprise.
This girl is just like all "moderate" muslims. They say all the time. "Its not Islam, its something else" but everybody that read the Quran knows that this is bull shit. Its empti retorics that we non-Muslims can see true. Soon the free world will rise up and the evil Muslims (all muslims are evil) will be taken care of!
Hurray, the voice of reason in one so young. Well done young Lady!!!
The problem is, that the U.S. is a joke on the international scene. We are laughed at. It is because we believe what the media and Hollywood feeds us. Get to another part of the world and just look back on the U.S. There is not much to be proud of. I will be called 'Un-patriotic, and Un-American for saying this, but its the real truth. Trust me I have travelled ALOT.
Why are there Muslims that cite Islam as justification for violence?
Why would violence ever be justifiable in defending Islam?
Even if violence in Islamic-areas' history is viewed as practical in retaliation to imperialistic, or fascist powers - is there something different about Islamic teaching that motivates different action to perceived persecution than, for example, Tibetan Buddhism: whose proponents are characterized as having endured persecution without violent retaliation.
luftigus. Iraqis were killed by sanctions, plus the left over depleted uranium after Gulf War 1. There is as ever debate on the actual numbers who died from sanctions but 1,000,000 or 500,000, its immaterial. We base the figures on the child mortality figures before and after our sanctions.
In other words you have no good evidence for the claim of one million. You may recall that we arranged for humanitarian relief but the Iraqi and UN officials stole the money. Saddam wanted people to suffer so that he and his dupes could complain.
Hold on - the US, EU and UK kill 1,000,000 with sanctions, then another 1,000,000 by bomb, missile, bullet. The people we don't kill in these lands we invade get hold of explosives and blow us up but THEY are the terrorists? Brilliant logic. You have the admire the sheer gall of the Yanks. As for LMartella, try waving a machete - you'll get Fox Coverage for Islam then.
According to the Economist, a terrorist bomb meant to kill Benazir Bhutto was attached to a baby held up for her to embrace. Bhutto says she escaped the blast because she stepped back to adjust the laces of her shoes. Baby looked to be a girl about 15 months old.
Why are women made to wear the veil?. If muslim men get tempted to rape uncovered women, logic dictates that they should be wearing the veil or blindfold. Time to introduce veil for Muslim men.
I am sorry but i have to post this for negrodamusx since his racist and hate filled response need to be addressed. Do a google search on "hijab prevents rape"
To say any group does not have rapists is just stupid. My point was that the us army condems this and punishes its bad apples, but the insurgency in iraq almost seems to reward such actions. How can you condem the us soldiers yet not condem the muslim insurgents who do exactly the same thing?
She's not listening to any Muslims let alone non-Muslims, I don't think she actually is Muslim.(Muslim means one who does ISLAM, or submitting to God in peace)
Confused yes, Muslim no.
She said she is a "former" Catholic maybe her understanding of Islam comes from what they Catholics understood about Islam.
Pope John Paul the second kissed the Quran.
A book which denies the crucifixion of Christ a central pillar of the Christian faith.
Good work, LMartella. Ignore all the fundamentalist's opinions (like this stupid Batavian190 below). Be the voice of reason. Dont take off the video later due to death threats. I wouldnt be surprised if you got them over this video.
Thanks. I've gotten death threats and other disturbing comments for far less than this video. Nothing surprises me anymore. :-) thanks for the support.
It implies following the exact commandments given by what Muslims believe to be God as given to them by Muhammed who Muslims believe is the last and final prophet of God.
To give an example Muhammed would do salat infront of the Ka'ba when this was forbidden by the rulers of Mecca.
It is described in the first sura of the Qu'ran sura 96:
Ok bro, you are no one to tell her she's not a Muslim. A Muslim is one who believes in Allah and his messenger and the finality of Islam as the last religion. This is all thats required to be a Muslim. All this I say because I was a Muslim myself, now atheist. Yea I know you wont believe that, but thats ok.
There's a lot of shades of Muslims, from blue to red. She's probably a blue Muslim (peaceful). They're all muslims though. By your reason, there will be few muslims left since most of them dont care about killing infidels. 500 chars not enough, PM me if you want. Is a real Muslim a bad person? YES, by all means. How real is LMartella a Muslim? 30% I'd say. If she doesnt believe in Q5:33, she lost 5% and so on.
Those who were left behind (in the Tabuk expedition) rejoiced in their inaction behind the back of the Messenger of Allah: they hated to strive and fight, with their goods and their persons, in the cause of Allah: they said, "Go not forth in the heat." Say, "The fire of Hell is fiercer in heat." If only they could understand!
Let them laugh a little: much will they weep: a recompense for the (evil) that they do. "
You cant say that if a man doesn't marry a 9 year old when he's 54, he's not a Muslim. They are, just to varying degrees. I get your point but simple belief also determines if you're a muslim or not. When I was a muslim, I was much better than my peers in the terms of sincerity of my belief and trust in Allah, etc. I wouldnt agree that I wasnt a Muslim since I didnt kill infidels. Thats not the way it is.
And if you use the word "jihad" to translate to "holy war", then I suppose you'd have a point. Except that the term holy war is not Islamic, but Christian. Jihad means struggle. There are two types of Jihad. One is to fight injustice and oppression, by means of defensive "war" and the other is an internal struggle of the individual.
If you base your theories about Islam on lies, you get exactly what you're looking for. But it's still lies.
There is not a single thing about Islam that confuses me. You are the one who is confused, or you are purposely trying to mislead others with your comments.
When we see at least one protest... at least one! Where moderate muslims unite together to condem an act of terrorism. The days or weeks after 7/7 or 9/11 would've been a good time. Alas, missed opportunity.
A protest as least as big as the several held in Washington by americans condeming the war in Iraq, or as big as the protests held in Lebanon, Pakistan and London by muslims condeming cartoons.
What I don't understand is. If the hijab pervent rape as many muslim men would proclaim. Why do we hear about rape by American soldiers in Hijab Iraq. Someone is lying.
Which rapist soldiers? The ones the american army tried, condemed, and jailed or the insurgents in iraq who are considered heros to you guys? I am a US soldier and I can tell you the us army and 99.9% of its soldiers condem those cowardly half-men soldiers.
Wrong. I'm ex-military and can testify the quality of our armed forces has declined because of lowered standards to meet recruitment goals. The military is not above the law, or criticism. 10 years for gang rape is not enough.
Wrong, gramps. Its a well reported fact that many neo-nazis and inner gang members have joined the army in the last 5 years, hoping to use military training for the upcoming "race war" they think is going to happen.
You're not military, punk. More like armchair general.

Also it's not like just one Muslim calling for the death pentally. Crowds of Muslims where chanting for the death penalty
badpanda84 3 years ago
What point is that?
Until you can prove to me that the majority of Muslims were calling for death, I don't understand why this matters.
There are well over 2 billion Muslims worldwide.
Even if 10,000 people were on the streets (which I am certain there were not), that's still only 0.0005% of the Muslim population.

Where is the authority that will tell him he is wrong?
rhomas913 4 years ago

How many versions 200 years later?
kauaikit 3 years ago
Sure, no problem!
Beliefs are based upon God's words as found

Impressive, at the young age of 20 you have all the answers. Though Mohammad was 40 when he started hearing "bells clanging" in his head & stood on the street corner in Mecca for 10 years before being forced out & headed to Medina. Then from the age of 50 to 63 he turned preacher to Political leader.
Gee, it even took him 23 years to invent Islam & 12 years for the Angel Gabriel to "speak in his ear", right?
Imams & Mullahs get PhD's. Oh really? Would that be from the studies of only one Side?
kauaikit 3 years ago
Permit me to ask you 2 simple questions:
Do think about the above.....Peace!

in the Qur'an and clarified in the Hadith (reported sayings and actions of Prohphet Muhammad).

So the Qur'an has never been changed in 1400 yrs?

You should never rely on a single source for information without exception. But it would be foolish to not watch Fox, Spiegel, Al Jazeera, CBC, Guardian...etc just because you do not agree with their take on things. Newspapers in Canada and Europe are far more biased (without exception) then in the USA (since they tend to mix editorials with the news articles). In the US, the editorials are separate.
rhomas913 4 years ago
After having lived in Europe, I was surprized that so many people find a paper that fits their view, read only that paper, and abide by its opinion religiously (like Brits with BBC). For one to get a true picture, one needs to read at least 10 papers. Palestinians are stupid to not read Israeli papers and Israels are stupid to not read Palestinian papers. There are lots of stupid and lazy people out there.
rhomas913 4 years ago
NYPost is a cheeseball tabloid newspaper anyhow. True though that the world does not focus on the real tragedies in the world. There is plenty of hypocrisy around. Look how the hyper-rich Gulf Arab countries lack of help (or even discussion) of the starving Somali people or the muslim on muslim genocide going on in Sudan. Israel just cut off fuel supplies to Gaza, you would think the arab world would make up the shortfall.

The bombs ranged from two nail bombs outside primary schools (one exploded) plus dozens outside homes. Some were pipe bombs, nail bombs, improvised explosive devices and others car bombs.
Some were reported in the airport.
Three were left outside police stations.

LMartella 4 years ago
Islam is a fundamentalist religion.
Islam means submission to God in peace.
Have you seen him who forbids
A servant when he prays?
Batavian190 4 years ago
Ok bro, you are no one to tell her she's not a Muslim. A Muslim is one who believes in Allah and his messenger and the finality of Islam as the last religion. This is all thats required to be a Muslim. All this I say because I was a Muslim myself, now atheist. Yea I know you wont believe that, but thats ok.
kenny582 4 years ago
Well the problem is with the meaning of the word Muslim.
It's not a name you can just stick on yourself.
By the way congratulations on seeing reason and getting out of this lunacy.
But Muslim means one who does Islam.
Islam is a verb..it's something you do.
Mu to do ..jahideen..do to Jihad.
You understand?
Mujahideen....Mu...Mu..slim...Islam.
Batavian190 4 years ago
There's a lot of shades of Muslims, from blue to red. She's probably a blue Muslim (peaceful). They're all muslims though. By your reason, there will be few muslims left since most of them dont care about killing infidels. 500 chars not enough, PM me if you want. Is a real Muslim a bad person? YES, by all means. How real is LMartella a Muslim? 30% I'd say. If she doesnt believe in Q5:33, she lost 5% and so on.
kenny582 4 years ago
kenny582 Islam and the Qu'ran says to follow the prophet Muhammed as he was the best example for mankind to follow.
And ..well..killing infidels..let me put it this way.
Do you want to kill the murderer of your mother?
If so you just killed an infidel.
Do you want to stone your wife to death because she had sex with another man?
You just killed an infidel.
Batavian190 4 years ago
By the way kenny582 I do not believe in blue red yellow Muslims or moderate Muslims or extremist Muslims.
I just take Islam as the central understanding.
I don't like it at all i think it's evil and unjust.
I want to see it removed..but anyway I don't hate people who say they are Muslim, i just think they should understand there religion.
Most are born Muslim and quite frankly do not know or act anything like Muhammed.
Batavian190 4 years ago
What I mean by this is...believe is not enough in order to be a Muslim.
You have do follow the prophets example and do your salat and your fasting, and your hajj.
And give your zakaat etc.
Batavian190 4 years ago
Read sura 9 it talks about the hypocrites.
"
Those who were left behind (in the Tabuk expedition) rejoiced in their inaction behind the back of the Messenger of Allah: they hated to strive and fight, with their goods and their persons, in the cause of Allah: they said, "Go not forth in the heat." Say, "The fire of Hell is fiercer in heat." If only they could understand!
Let them laugh a little: much will they weep: a recompense for the (evil) that they do. "
Batavian190 4 years ago
You cant say that if a man doesn't marry a 9 year old when he's 54, he's not a Muslim. They are, just to varying degrees. I get your point but simple belief also determines if you're a muslim or not. When I was a muslim, I was much better than my peers in the terms of sincerity of my belief and trust in Allah, etc. I wouldnt agree that I wasnt a Muslim since I didnt kill infidels. Thats not the way it is.
kenny582 4 years ago
A Muslim is one who submits to God.
LMartella 4 years ago
You are wrong again LMartella and i think you should come clean and admit you are confused.
Islam means one who submits to the God of Muhammed.
Jihad means struggle, a strugle to implement Islamic law, Sharia law on the world and all human beings.
