During Bush lame duck session it went up to 8.5%. Obama proposed the bailout in March 2009 and the money went out only in May 2009 when unemployment dropped at 10% (800k job losses a month) ... still under Bush budget!!!. Since May 09 unemployment went down and 3 M jobs were created in 20 months until Jan 2011 when GOP GOVERNORS cut public jobs

We have the highest property taxes in the nation, the third highest debt load, much caused by many who came before Christie and made promises to the unions, i.e. benefits for teachers, police, firefighters etc, that are now unsustainable in this climate. Christie has asked the teachers union to take a one year pay freeze and contribute 1.5 towards medical benefits. He was vilified. For not building the tunnel that we can't afford?... vilified etc, etc.

@plinkenstein Do you complain about increase in unemployment rate? Well look at the numbers and look very closely then. In Dec 2010 unemployment rate dropped to 8.7%. Since the teabagger governors went in place in their states unemployment rate went up because they fired tens of thousands of people in the public sector increasing the national unemployment rate. Texas unemployment went from 8.2% to 8.5% in 2 months with the highest number of under wage jobs.
