When i installed Win 7 i would get BSOD's When inserting a disk into the optical drive. it was a pretty dumb crash. Now i have a new computer With Linux and Linux is having problems with My Blu-Ray drive Bringing down the system. Crazy!
I have a good time laughing at Windows 7. Its faster, more secure but the UI is terrible, tacky and very restrictive! I've never had issues with Windows Vista, no more than I had when using 7
I Highly reccomend upgrading to 7 but dont get starter, get the Premium or better, i have it on my laptop and it is beast! imo it is WAY better than xp, i knw from experience, our old desktop has xp
@Honda040life And linux is better than windows, been running linux forever without an anti-virus or anything, getting higher speed out of it that I do on my 7 ultimate partition. And more importantly, I get to laugh at all the problems windows has as I generally don't have to deal with them outside of work or my personal business.
Such as the video I uploaded where windows can't even put the right size on an 80GB HDD.
@Microtardz well good fr u, ive never used linux, nor do i even knw what it looks like, ive always used windows, since ME and i used Mac in school and i dont like it.
@Honda040life I have a version of MS-Dos as a multiboot on my laptop just for lulz.
I despise mac because their security doesn't even work. Mac already has plenty of viruses out for it, and the only reason Mac users aren't faced with them constantly like windows is, is simply because windows is the vast fking majority.
Macs are just a huge waste of time, money, and pretty much everything.
@Honda040life Or build one and put windows on it for a quarter of that with the same/higher specs. As long as you know when and where to buy the pieces or the barebone kit :D.
Oh, and one more thing Gianebao, if OS X is so secure, why does apple keep on releasing all of these security updates? And why is there anti virus for the Mac? And why does the small fine print on apples website recommend yoy get antivirus for your mac? Care to elaborate?
Linux has malware, though running as a normal user and keeping exe's set to non executable by default will stop most of them. If I want I eyecandy I just modify linux or BSD. Speaking of, that is all OSX really is, free BSD that was dressed in a nice tootoo and sold for hundreds. I buy PCs for hardware, and usually run Linux along with windows
@GodlessFurry True linux has malware, however, encryption of the home folder, a given option in the ubuntu distro, which I stopped using and swapped out for debian lenny, and slackware. But either way, with an encrypted home folder, and a root terminal password, you'd actually have to be pretty STUPID to allow the malware to do its business.
You'd have to some how magically download it, which in itself is a slight feat, then set chmod +x mod the path, and then give it root terminal access.
@GodlessFurry True indeed. Theres actually a work around the root terminal access issue, that is of course as long as you're remote accessing via, router, however of course, router security is typically tight enough that as long as you're not pissing off droves of elite hackers, you'll probably never face the issue.
Any other work around is typically too much hassle for an OS that isn't even 10% of the market.
Unless of course you're targeting a single individual.
@GodlessFurry I typically, if i'm buying my own system, price the parts, or wait until I know a companies hurting, and get some serious discounts on barebone kits.
I mean, 7 ultimate is only another $189 and when you typically get a pc through windows, they're charging you 200-300 for the OS, rather than the actual license cost.
However, if i'm getting a customer system, I almost always do barebones, and charge of course, a fee.
Also if apple is so great then why do they charge several hundred dollars just for 200 MHZ more on a CPU? HP can give me an i5 upgrade with an ATI HD Radeon 5450 from the i3 for just $75. Also apple is so stingy that their student discount is only $50 on a computer that is $1000. HP takes $260 off for my student discount. Also you cant upgrade macs as much as PCs, and a windows service pack upgrade doesn't cost $200.
Any computer is like that. I have never had a windows virus. And at least I don't have to sell a kidney to afford a PC. And why should I get a mac this Christmas if apple is going to make new macs in early 2011? They already betrayed me once. How do I know apple wont rip me off again? I love getting macs for Christmas, only to find out apple releases new ones 2 moths later and yours is now old news. So if you want to stay with the latest mac, drop $1500 each year.
osx is secured if you don't change you file permissions, if you change your root and user password regularly, no flash on safari and always update. in other words be smart...
windows maybe secured, even if your smart, if you have an antivirus, always update and if its a windows 7. again, that's maybe...
on the other hand, osx has a user/group system and defaults each file to user-only. it also doesn't have a registry system so there is no trigger to cling to. aside from that, osx implements sandbox in their apps. meaning apps can only access their own data.
malwares need to be copied locally and EXECUTED locally by a trigger(event) like any other software. this is why windows is vulnerable to such. windows runs on top of DOS which is an unprotected os(no user/group. file permission is always 0777-all access). this allows malwares to easily copy theirselves once a user is logged in. windows runs a registry system. this allows applications to be executed on load event. once this trigger executes the software, its up to the creativity of the author o
Do you even know how to use windows? It seems you have no idea how windows works. In windows you cannot change or alter system files unless you are running as a root user or give root privileges. Its the same in Linux and the same in mac. Therefore it is the fault of the stupid user that was running in root or gave the virus permission to alter the system. Get your facts correct. Oh, and are you getting an ipad or a mac for Christmas? Because in 3 months apple makes new macs and ipads
It's more secure because it's a new OS. Granted, half the old viruses will still work for Windows 7, but those old ones will be re-written for 7, and it will be just as easy to write them for 7 as it was for XP. It's not more secure. It has less viruses at the moment.
It makes me sad that he switched to mac. :( I liked watching his videos because I thought he was the only sain computer geek blogger that loved Microsoft and homebuilt PC's. :(
Upon last check, it's 99% Impossible to launch a successful hack attack against Windows 7, given the nature of it's security layers. Malware will continue to be a problem, but even master hacker Charlie Miller (a Mac lover) openly admitted that once hackers and malicious software authors start targeting the Mac lineup, they'll have a HELLUVAN' easier time succeeding with their attacks.
Macs are simply the least secure systems in the world. Proven 100%.
@TheUberDeity Yep. They don't spend time on security since there not so popular. But now more people are buying them and my friends mac keeps crashing, ect. Black screen of death. Its actually funny since I haven't had a BSOD since my HDD died a few years back.
My last BSOD was back in 2003, thanks for a faulty RAM module that I was able to swap out in 30 minutes. Macboys don't understand that BSODs are there for a reason. That's why IT professionals DESPISE Macs, because of their ambiguous error messages that don't give proper information on how to diagnose what's wrong. 3/4 of the time, a fresh re-installation of OSX is necessary.
@TheUberDeity Let macintosh get popular, then they'll be ready with the security updates. Lolz. It's not that they're stupid, it's just not needed given the low market share.
So you're basically saying that Apple is lazy, right? "Oh well, we haven't sold that many computers, so to hell with our customers. If they get hacked, it's not our fault."
It took Apple 8 months to patch a Safari exploit that allowed full Mac takeover. Since the start, Windows updates have come within days of reported threats. Not good, considering Snow Leopard is the world's most insecure OS.
@TheUberDeity You're missing the point. There are millions more who use windows who have files that are supposed to be secret. While, Mac is aimed toward consumers, while not always priced with consumers in mind. Since windows has more customers, they need to be fast in order to please. But Macintosh probably took 8 months to code AND TEST the hack so that it would never happen again.
Macintosh puts a lot more into it. It may be slower, but it puts out better results most of the time.
That is the LAMEST, most RIDICULOUS thing I've ever heard!!! You're suggesting that Apple needed 8 months to TEST THE HACK to find a counter-measure???
Rrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahaha!! Oh shit, SON! It's only Thursday!! You started my weekend off early with a big tremendous LAUGH!

I have to disagree with you Chris. I personally feel that XP is better than 7, maybe just because its had a longer time to work out compatibility issues with programs. But even from a fresh reformat with 7, I ran into major issues such as bad drivers. I still like Windows 7 and am currently using it right now, but on a poll I would have to say XP over 7. Again that could always be because of compatibility, or even the layout to access in depth settings. All in all still getting used to 7.
You know like you guys were talking about the crashes on the mac your supposed to install windows 7 and then after your done insert your mac OS disk and select the install drivers option and install them
I was recently making animation with my dsi and wen i took the sd card and put it in my computer. now my computer doesnt recognize the sd card. please help
Windows seven is awsome my boss uses it and she is a Microsoft MVP and works on code problems when people have problems me I just fix them ie computers when they breakdown
Microsoft are kind of weird, instead of actually solving the problem like fixing holes they put features like UAC.
They give the user to decide if to run/not to run a certain file and the majority of the users are just normal users = meaning they cannot decide what to take. They "allow" it just to continue to what they were doing...
Microsoft..? I mean... WTF?
Learn from the Open Source community like Apple are. Yes, I am a Windows users...
look at it this way, If i buy a pc that is the SAME price as a mac, chances are that the PC is gonna have better specs than the mac itself would have. Which would in turn, enhance your windows experiance. Any PC over $800 is better than a $1,200+ mac. The thing is, you get what you pay for.
@fernank017 The gaming PC I just built 3 days ago cost about $812. It's stronger than the Mac Pro, other than the dual CPU thing. Dual CPU doesn't count since most computers only use one CPU.
@fernank017 Look at it this way, I'll buy a MAC that cost as much as your PC, and for some extra dollars I'll be able to run windows too. And linux for $0. You buy a PC, and then you think you want a Mac, you have to spend FAR more money, or break the law to get it.
@rifall If I have a superfast PC, why the fuck would I need a mac? And just so you know, you need boot camp to run those things, as for pc's you just install it on a new hard drive/partition and its good to go.
@fernank017 Well, guess what, boot camp comes on every mac. No extra pay.
And you need a Mac when you need to run Mac exclusive programs. Yeah, believe it or not, those do exist. And in my experience, it's a BITCH to repartition a hard drive to run 2 operating systems.
@rifall but you see, you dont repartion/reformat a HD to add a new OS. you can just add a partition, no need for a reformat. and there are also PC only apps too. and finally, if a person wants run 2 operating systems, chance's are, they know what they're doing, because an average user does not do this. Unless you're on a Macintosh of course, where you NEED windows to live, so you put on a big propaganda on how shit PCs are and then you decide that you actually need it.
@fernank017 Decide we need it? Yeah, it's actually a gimmick to get PC users to try out macintosh, so you can safely still have a windows system available. It's like being able to explore macintosh while safely keeping your old system incase you cannot find a Mac alternative.
And, add a partition? You cannot do that very cleanly unless there is room on the HD that's not taken up by a partition. Facts straight, a new HD is easier to add then a new partition.
um, you said microsoft didn't copy the dock, then u said it was dock-like and u prefer it. microsoft defintely copied it, and actually made it better, which is suprising, considering it's microsoft we're tlaking about here lol
No way! is Vaughn your real name!? My name is spelled just like that, I've only met other Vaughns with an "A" between "H" and "N". I was just about to reply to your post saying how I agree about not needing an AV program because I havn't ever used one on any of my PCs and I havn't had a problem to date.
Windows 7 is the best OS I've used to date. Win 7 is secure, compatible, easy to use, and faster at all tasks than previous versions of windows on this same computer. I'm not talking new install vs old install. It's just faster. Gaming wise, I only experienced a performance dip vs XP if Aero was turned OFF. This is all based on the RC though, going to get my Win 7 retail soon.
hell mac and windows are pretty much the same.... both operating systems pretty much reached thier peak but i still gotta say xp is the ***beep *** best out thier ... why because it works with every thing... with out any upgrades and its just got a relax feel to it not ohh high def.... its got nothing fancy
Also i wish that woman would stop taking asif windows is the only OS. Linux securety has been rock solid from day 1, Why cant she just say "Shitty windows has just started to get it right"
Lol "I dont care how smart you browse you need software to protect you". Ive been using windows 7 for 6 months straight, No antivirus, And im still using that original copy with no problems whatsoever. Some securety "expert" lmao.
XP is just too old now, come on guys. I know it's not your fault but it's Microsoft. Nothing as good and smooth has come out sine XP but its about time now that our re thought you options and either tried 7 or looked into a mac. x
Macs are overpriced P.O.S's, The only "USP" to the uninformed user is infact the software running on it - MacOSX reducing any crashing problems that appear on a windows machine. But If u install linux on a PC, Macs have nothing on PC's, And certainly not hardware.
Why are some people so shallow and narrow-minded not to see the quality and benefits of the mac? It's like it will kill them to pay them a single compliment.
Spoken like a true fanboy. What i say is true. If you did just a bit of research you would find that the actual hardware in mac's are no where near what it should be, For the insane price ur paying. And that there would be no basis for the rediculous "PC vs Mac" adverts, If the common person was informed enough to know that the real competition is "Windows vs MacOSX", And that all you have to do is install linux the fix the problems of the windows installed PC.
Riiiiiiiiight, Even tho i use windows 7 because i cant run games on linux? Yeeeeeah that makes sence. Linux is just an alternitive for windows, And since it has exactly the same features as macosx, And can be made to look the same, Along with the fact that its free, I would say that its way better than macosx, Especialy as you can use all the powerful PC hardware too.
Windows 7 is great, by far the best OS I've ever used. Better then 95, 98, 2000, XP, Vista, OS X, Ubuntu, Mandriva. I've been using Windows 7 for over 4 months as my main OS and its just amazing. Much faster then vista and a lot more stable too.
I believe that Apple makes better laptops then HP, Dell, Toshiba, Sony etc. and I would rather have an Apple laptop over those brands because its much higher quality, but for a desktop I would rather build it myself.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
windows 7 is just as shit as vista, pc is going down the drain to apple who are the fastest growing company in technology as we speak! Better quality, durability, accessibility, EVERYTHING! Which is why they're so expensive but believe me, it's more than worth it! My macbook pro 13-inch is faster and more reliable than my desktop gaming pc lol PC FTL. Plus if you're looking for stocks to invest, go with apple they're said to have a 50-60 dollar increase over the next couple years! Apple ROCKS :)
HappyMalcolmLP you're such a fanboy. Anybody that says that Apple is the best at everything has to realize that Apple never really invents their own crap. loL
are you gay? no matter what software and OS updates apple will make in the future, it will never parrallel or even come close to the efficiency, security, and user friendlyness of windows, including vista, xp, and 7
Okay so Windows 7 security has increased but you are telling me that I still need an active antivirus to stay safe online? Well that doesn't sound to me like you have done a great job closing the loop holes.
This lady doesn't fill me with a great deal of confidence and I found most of the conversation to be quiet very awkward.
Maybe it is time to switch to Hackintosh on my PC instead of upgrading to Windows 7?
Hackintosh is basically Mac for PC. I managed to install OSX leopard on my PC before. Now I think they have snow leopard available. Check out insanelymac forums.
I can get 7 running on something as slow as an AMD Athlon 800MHZ 768mb of ram, geforce 4....

The thing is, you get what you pay for.
fernank017 2 years ago 20
Some ppl want computers, others want macs....I have a pc, but i don't hate macs, because of them youtube has videos with cool shiny effects :D.
zoidbetag 2 years ago
@fernank017 The gaming PC I just built 3 days ago cost about $812. It's stronger than the Mac Pro, other than the dual CPU thing. Dual CPU doesn't count since most computers only use one CPU.
drakeb 2 years ago
@fernank017 Alienware or Asus. :D Or Sager.
RacingRocks12 1 year ago
@fernank017 lol you can get a £/$/€ 600 Dell with the same CPU, Ram 512mb graphics card :) ( i dont work 4 Dell )
ApplyPieable 1 year ago
@fernank017 Look at it this way, I'll buy a MAC that cost as much as your PC, and for some extra dollars I'll be able to run windows too. And linux for $0. You buy a PC, and then you think you want a Mac, you have to spend FAR more money, or break the law to get it.
rifall 1 year ago
@rifall If I have a superfast PC, why the fuck would I need a mac? And just so you know, you need boot camp to run those things, as for pc's you just install it on a new hard drive/partition and its good to go.
fernank017 1 year ago
@fernank017 Well, guess what, boot camp comes on every mac. No extra pay.
And you need a Mac when you need to run Mac exclusive programs. Yeah, believe it or not, those do exist. And in my experience, it's a BITCH to repartition a hard drive to run 2 operating systems.
rifall 1 year ago
@rifall but you see, you dont repartion/reformat a HD to add a new OS. you can just add a partition, no need for a reformat. and there are also PC only apps too. and finally, if a person wants run 2 operating systems, chance's are, they know what they're doing, because an average user does not do this. Unless you're on a Macintosh of course, where you NEED windows to live, so you put on a big propaganda on how shit PCs are and then you decide that you actually need it.
fernank017 1 year ago
@fernank017 Decide we need it? Yeah, it's actually a gimmick to get PC users to try out macintosh, so you can safely still have a windows system available. It's like being able to explore macintosh while safely keeping your old system incase you cannot find a Mac alternative.
And, add a partition? You cannot do that very cleanly unless there is room on the HD that's not taken up by a partition. Facts straight, a new HD is easier to add then a new partition.
rifall 1 year ago
@fernank017 Look at it this way, I buy a $800 barebone, and put linux instead of windows on the PC.
And I officially have a computer with the same specs made with an $800 barebone, that would be $200 cheaper than the same barebone with windows.
7's security is actually only tight on the licensing end, get linux if you want an OS that doesn't even need an Anti-virus.

Macs are overpriced P.O.S's, The only "USP" to the uninformed user is infact the software running on it - MacOSX reducing any crashing problems that appear on a windows machine. But If u install linux on a PC, Macs have nothing on PC's, And certainly not hardware.
scratchyrice 2 years ago
Spoken like a true hater.
Why are some people so shallow and narrow-minded not to see the quality and benefits of the mac? It's like it will kill them to pay them a single compliment.
wetpixels 2 years ago
Mac's are over rated..
EagleEyeSC 2 years ago
Spoken like a true fanboy. What i say is true. If you did just a bit of research you would find that the actual hardware in mac's are no where near what it should be, For the insane price ur paying. And that there would be no basis for the rediculous "PC vs Mac" adverts, If the common person was informed enough to know that the real competition is "Windows vs MacOSX", And that all you have to do is install linux the fix the problems of the windows installed PC.
scratchyrice 2 years ago
Spoken like a true Linux fanboy.

Riiiiiiiiight, Even tho i use windows 7 because i cant run games on linux? Yeeeeeah that makes sence. Linux is just an alternitive for windows, And since it has exactly the same features as macosx, And can be made to look the same, Along with the fact that its free, I would say that its way better than macosx, Especialy as you can use all the powerful PC hardware too.
scratchyrice 2 years ago
Install Linux to fix Windows. haha, I need to get out of this conversation, it's just gotten ridiculous.

Windows 7 FTW.

windows 7 is just as shit as vista, pc is going down the drain to apple who are the fastest growing company in technology as we speak!
