  • Thanks for sharing:(

  • I am so sorry for your loss. While I cannot sympathize directly with you, I can sympathize somewhat. I have lost a lot of my friends and family from cancer, and hearing this story brought tears to my eyes. Thank you.

  • The end really got me..

I guess it's true what thay say about the power off words.

    Thank you.

  • thank you for shareing

  • This isn't like your other videos, but it's amazing all the same. I almost cried. Thanks for sharing.

  • i know how you feel about your roommate being killed unexpectedly..

in december, my friend got into a bad car accident, luckily she's on her way to recovery..

but it really makes you realize how precious and short life is.. and how dangerous the world can be

  • Moral of the story:

    Mistakes can be fatal.

  • You are a wonderful person to share this story with us. I feel very sorry for your friend, and I am sure i will pray for him everyday. And. . .i am speechless, i got watery eyes watching this .. . . R.I P. DAN!!!!

  • ...I truly am sorry to hear your story and you being able to share this with everyone i hope will have the effect to others to seek out training if they already ride a bike or do it before riding as a beginner.

Be sure to look into a defensive drivers course when you get that scooter here, down under :) take care.

  • Thanks you for having the courage and strength to share this part of you and your life.

It's true...we'll never know who we'll touch in this world or how we will be affected by another human being.

    *hugs*

  • That was so incredibly touching.

  • Wow...

    Thankyou.

  • I wanted to tell you a funny story. I got on YouTube and read your comment. Below it was a notice I had commented too much and needed to wait. But, I didn't think I was commenting I thought I was replying so I clicked on the space available. It deleted your comment I am heartbroken. But, at least I know that my life is still on track. LOL

  • wow, that was something. Glad you made this.

  • So sad, so sorry. I've worked at a motorcycle dealership for years and see this frequently. A very simialr accident happened a couple of months ago where I live. I felt bad but realized that regardless of what kind of picture it paints in your mind, that kind of accident is quick and painless. I've been down and almost lost my life, but I still ride. Many that work around me as well. Bikes and scooters require experience and ultra awareness. Its not just a free spirit that drives them.

  • Ver touching.

  • OMG hun I'm sorry to hear about your dear friend. You did a great memorandum and I think it was sweet of you not to show his identity for his family's sake. Thank you for sharing this with us! *hugs*

  • Thanks for sharing, katz...This reminds me to be careful on my motorcycle as well...we all need to be reminded that we can never be too careful, no matter what type of vehicle we drive.

  • That was such a sad and beautiful story. Thank you so much for sharing.

  • Thank you for sharing a different side of yourself and a cautionary tale that will encourage others to be more careful.

My brother used to ride his motorcycle without a helmet (legal here in Illinois), and it always scared me to death. When he got married, his wife made him wear one (and stop skydiving) - thank goodness!!

  • Once I was following my brother somewhere (he on his bike, me in a car). We came to a place where there was construction and lots of gravel on the road. He was following a truck too closely, and when the truck stopped suddenly, my brother wasn't able to stop fast enough because of the gravel, and dropped the bike right in front of me. I was barely able to stop before I hit him. I've never been so glad to see someone stand up in my life.

  • Since that incident, as a driver I am always very, very aware of motorcycles. If there is one around me, I always give the rider plenty of room and I make sure I always know where he/she is.

I hope other folks who drive cars will consider doing the same.

  • I can sympathize with you very much. A few months ago this young man whom I used to care for when he was a child(a span of 10 years) was involved in motorcycle accident and consequently died. He was only 22 years old, it crushed me. Even though I hadn't had much contact w/him over the years I always thought of him as my kid brother. Hopefully they are both in better places now.

  • thank you for sharing your story. I am so sorry for your loss and hurt. I am sure they are both in a better place.

  • I truly believe people come into and out of our lives for a reason. So we can clearly see your friend Dan left an emotional impression on you, and memories that will last a lifetime. Thanks for the story.

  • so very True. thanks!

  • aww... thank you. now go give that son and daughter of yours a big hug.

  • Not an easy video for you to make but the message was very profound. Thank you

  • That was Beautiful. You have a wonderful Soul. Thank You

  • have tears in eyes :(

  • A beautiful story, I almost cried. It's rare to see someone put their true emotions up for everyone to see. I'm sure he's in a good place. No way a guy like that could go elsewhere.

  • I tried to avoid watching this video as soon as I saw the title. But I had to because it was clear that it was going somewhere important. Then I watched some and tried to avoid finishing when I realized where it was going. But, as others say, you are very compelling, so I had to finish it. These videos are the reason YouTube should exist.

  • oh! thank you soo soo soo much for that!!!

  • Sorry for the lose of your friend, He seemed like a good person... thanks for sharing :)

  • You are just such a good storyteller. Your genuine-ness shows through. You are so "real."

  • Thank you for sharing this story is all that I can say.

  • I think the most poignant part of this tale is that we are here on this world for such a small space in time and that we need to remember that as we travel through others lives because as they say "there for the grace of (insert deity of choice) go I". Live life to the fullest - carefully.

    cheers

    Henrybucks

  • such a great quote and thoughts henry! thanks!!

  • Your honesty and depth made this so heartbreaking.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • This was really sad. I almost started to cry as well.

  • Watching this made me cry, even though I knew what was coming. I am so sorry you had this tragedy in your life. I am happy you had the joy of knowing such a special man.

  • Oh god... The newspaper bit :( OH KATZ! *hugs*

The world is STUPID [he says at 16]. I'm glad you shared this with us; you're a wonderful story teller. *sniffs*

  • *hugs* thanks honey.

  • I was thinking to myself while listening to katz's story that Dan really was asking for it with his own stupidity. I was going to keep this callously unsympathetic thought to myself until I remembered an incident or two I was stupidly involved in when I was younger that could easily have led to my (and others') deaths. The arrogance of we, the living, who got lucky.

  • As for your more "sombre" videos, it's all you and it's all good. Thanks for sharing a bit more of you. We knew you weren't really Mary Poppins anyway ;)

  • once again, really great thoughts GoddnRunn. oh and as for the Mary Poppins... *smooch* thanks for making me laugh!!! now... where did I put that spoonful of sugar...?

  • You should link this one to your first one as a response vid. or something :-)

  • got it!! didn't think of that at first till some folks let me know... thanks!

  • that was so sad katz. I'm sorry about you loosing your roomate so tragicaly like that. Also sorry for his friend from new orleans as well. That was really sad too. That would have been nice if he would have gotten his dream. R.I.P. Dan. You sounded like a nice guy.

  • Such a touching video darling Katz. I'm all teary eyed over here. Thank you so much for sharing.

  • This really hits home and is eerily similar to what happened to a dear friend of mine. Thanks for sharing such a personal story.

  • so sorry about your friend!

  • That had me in tears, thank you for sharing it.

  • the story was made even sadder by your theatrical presentation. Nice use of your skills; to remember your friend in such a way, honored him. He was lucky to have you as a friend.

  • the black and white somber feel actually came later. but seemed appropriate for the feel of the viddy and let folks know ahead of time that it wasn't like my others.

  • if this is a true story, it's very sad and sorry for your loss...if this is a live resume for you as an actress, you're very talented and got that Lisa Loeb thing going on. good luck reguardless.

  • If you go watch some of Katz' other videos, you will see she is not an actress, she is, in fact, a director - and a very good one, I think, too.

You will also see that she is a very honest and straight-forward person. I have absolutely and totally no doubt that she is sharing something very heart-wrenching that happened in her life. And I admire her for digging so deep into her heart to share it with us.

  • sent email with comment... not because it is bad, just can't fit it here or keep getting a comment error message... maybe this'll work...

  • Thank you for sharing memories of Dan.

  • God Bless you hon. This was sooo sad. Don't be sorry for posting this. This will save lives. ((((Hugs))))

  • So sorry. I hate to hear about young people being killed in accidents. I hope it was cathartic for you telling us his story.

  • it was a bit odd. I've told the story before but I think more in bits and pieces, not so much all together. but for the first time it was a bit nerve-wracking sharing this to the 'world' in a vlog as opposed to an individual conversation.

  • I'm crying all over the keyboard. I know this pain, and yes the joy of knowing and losing someone beautiful like that. It's a timely reminder of how fragile and precious life is. Thank you beautiful Katz.

  • so sorry to make you cry! *hugs* and thanks for your kind words too!!

  • Wow. That was an amazingly touching video. I'm tearing up here which is something I seldom do. Thanks for sharing.

  • Great video... great message... "Bike Safely!"

I too have experienced tragedy when my best friend was killed in a motorbike accident and his girlfriend left wheelchair bound.

I was there that day which will live with me forever.

Every minute seemed like an hour.

  • oh my how sad! my heart goes out to all of them! it is odd how certain memories are held so permanent in our lives.

  • Thanks for posting this story. It was so sad, but moving.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this.

  • Thats one sad story, but thnx for sharing. I know know now what not to do when i start riding my bike, consider this life savedxx

  • the best thing for me to hear. thanks!

  • Such a sad story, Katz. But its an important one about choosing not to take unnecessary risks. Thanks for sharing this.

  • Katz I'm so sorry. It's such a terrible way to go. R.I.P Dan

  • Also, please don't apologize for posting a serious video... I never saw a rule on YouTube that said "Katz should only be funny and entertaining". You had something important to say, and you said it. And I thank you again for that.

  • hey thanks so much for that. It was a bit weird making this one, I kept thinking ik! this is just depressing and boring, no laughs... folks are gonna hate it. but I had to do it either way. I'm glad it was received so well. thanks!

  • Katz, thank you for sharing this video. I'm sorry you lost your roomate Dan, especially in such a horrific way. He sounded like a terrific guy.

You made wonderful points about preparation that I think are important for all of us to remember, and it fits for more than just motorcycle safety. My niece is currently taking Driver's Ed, and she has a lot of preparation to do before she gets her official drivers license next spring.

  • Ironically, I now will always remember you. Thank you for sharing your story, it has touched me.

  • oh wow! thanks. I'm glad you were touched.

  • wow.... may he be in gods promes lands

  • Where's the button to resupply on Kleenex?

Kat, this was a truly touching story, and I thank you so much for telling it! Most times, we are lucky and bad decisions don't turn out too bad in the end. You made me remember and thank the powers that be that that has been the case for me.

I hope that Dan's family does see this. It is a tru trubute to his memory.

  • lol! I'll be sure to send on a message to youtube about that kleenex button! And thank you for your thoughts.

  • actually your more likey to get in an accident on small city streets than you are on the freeway

  • yeaup. heard that too. what is it? more accidents occur five minutes from home? I think that's the saying...

  • There's a saying I've heard...that you are never truly dead as long as someone remembers you. Thanks for the reminder that life is short and very precious. Thanks for the very moving story.

  • great saying!!

  • thanks for sharing this, Katz.

    ((hugs))

  • aawww crap i cried!

i was doing well till the song started..

im sorry you had to go through that

    *hugs*

    x

  • *hugs* sorry to make ya cry. yeah, the song gets to me too, it's a sad one.

  • Wonderful video..

  • Very moving. Katz you are a very eloquent storyteller. Of course we don't expect only funny things from you. Thank you so much for sharing that.

  • thank you Katz

  • My Mom said the hardest thing about my Dads death, was calling his mom to tell her that her son had died.

  • I was told by one of the folks who worked at the morgue, that notifying people of a love ones death is so important. It should be treated as the first step towards healing. seemed like a strange thought when I heard it at first. but so very true.

  • Absolutely. My Mom was only 20 years old. My Dad Was 21. I didnt even know how he died untill I was 8 or 9 because my Mom thought I was to young, and My Grandmother never talked about my dad, it was just too hard. Ive heard people say that You should never have to bury your child, that is just too cruel. Now that I am a mother I can understand that.

  • Im really sorry. I feel for you, and im glad you shared this story. My Dad died in a motorcycle accident when he was 21 years old, I was only 2. My dad was just a kid, and doing stupid tricks on it and fell off. He hit his head so hard that the doctor told my Mom that he would be brain dead if he survived, which he didnt. So thanks for the story, I think it is really important for people to hear these storys. It just might save a few lives.

  • oh my gosh! I'm so sorry for you and your family! and thank you as well for sharing yours.

  • Very touching story, Katz. Like Nate, I will be riding with a renewed sense of caution and respect for the machine I ride.

  • thank you. you have no idea how much better I feel after hearing that!

  • A very moving story to share katz. When we were 19 my best friend was killed by a drunk driver while on his motorcycle. He loved that bike, and probably would have been glad to have gone that way. Just not so soon. He lingered for several days. His was the second young and very close life that I had lost by that age. Pretty much not a week goes by that I don't see something that reminds me of both of them.

  • Katz,I watched both your videos an I am ..sensa parola..without words.Your sensitivity is remarkable,Blunty is blessed person for having you in his life and Australia will gain a very gentle person.

  • oh! thank you so much for such a sweet compliment!

  • ya had to put danny boy at the end didnt ya? man.. that his hard... ouch..ummm.. cant say anything im trying to not cry.

  • so sorry! but couldn't not include it, Dan loved the song as well.

  • Thank you, katz. Our experiences do shape us.

  • Hey kat,

This is quite possibly the most moving video I've ever seen on YouTube... you have such a beautiful way with words and you're very right about crossing paths with others. Don't worry too much about this video being different, it's from events like this that we learn how short life really can be and to make the best of what we have. Keep smiling, and until next time...

    Damien

  • hey there Damien!

*smile* Thanks so much. 'way with words' and the same to you! thanks again!

  • well said im very sorry

  • Thank you for sharing the story katz, it's worth remembering that we're all smart enough to make bad decisions from time to time.

Cha bhi fios aire math an tobair gus an tràigh e.

  • well said... is that the translation of what you said? what language?

  • It's Irish (or gaelic) and means roughly translated "the value of the well is not known until it goes dry" or you don't realis what something is worth until it's gone.

The reason i like this video and appreciate the story is it helps us remember that we can know the value of something great (be it ourselves or someone else) before it leaves us, and even if it does we can still learn and love it in our memories.

  • Aww hugz kat!!! I watched both. You are a great person for sharing this with us. I know it must have been hard to relive the details.

    <3

  • thanks. It was quite awhile ago and all is well. But it was strangely nerve-wracking to share such seriousness from me, when I really enjoy entertaining and making folks laugh. I admit, actually getting through the "upload / making it public fright" was tough.

  • I'm not sure what to say in responce to this - atleast publically - but I'm compelled to comment all the same. Bikers have a saying "there ate twi types of bikers - those who have dropped the bike and those who will drop the bike" I'm forever thankful that when I dropped the bike it was a very minor accident - I'm walking away from this video with an even stronger and newly renewed sense of precaution when I'm on the road.

  • my grandma got into an accident a while ago. luckily, she survived with a few broken ribs. that event really made me realize that life can come at you anytime. i was very enlightened my this video and I thank you for it. when i get my lisense, i hope i can drive with a great sense of precaution Blunty mentioned above.

  • thank you so much for sharing and saying that it makes it all worth while.
