I think I can partly settle the argument. I first heard her music and was totally captivated (free download of the week on iTunes). I bought the rest of her record on iTunes. One of my favorites ever. THEN I searched her up.
She is really cute, I wouldn't say that to her face if I just met her. But the awesome part is: it's not flaunted. On Letterman and Kimmel she didn't have that "sexy" look. That's cool and special.
If her talent didn't come first I wouldn't be here watching this video.
Finally--a guy who likes a girl because she doesn't flaunt herself. She's one of my role models, partly because we have a lot of things in common and so it's nice having someone to relate to, but also because she is genuine, super creative, and men respect the type of woman she is, aside from her obvious appeal as a musician.
dude thats like.....funny :D like Idk why but I'm dying of laughter on the inside, its like I feel alive for the first time ever. Of course it'd be sweet if I had a beer too, but sadly no, I am just stuck sipping on a Voss D: fml
No, there's actually more guys raging on this page because waaah waaah waaah they were briefly told that Annie Clark should be first appreciated for her talents, and not only her physical beauty. Apparently this is a difficult level for most of you to reach! Your comments all sound... real crazy.
Pretending to ignore the fact that she is beautiful is pathetic. She is. Pretending people aren't drawn to art that is both beautiful looking and sounding is more pathetic. You can choose to be bitter about human nature or you can embrace it's quirky nature. It is quirky, unfair, inspiring, beautiful, annoying and enigmatic all at the same time. It always has been and always will be. The question is; Who will you be?
What a great comment! I couldn't have said it any better. And yes, she is gorgeous. But that just adds to her music and art. This is the type of woman I would marry. You know, the quirky, different, but talented type. Not the Angelina Jolie's and Megan Fox's that people think are so beautiful.
Yes so true. At 20 I wouldn't have looked twice at her. At 30, I can only dream of spending time with a woman like her. Funny isn't it... Or sad, I'm not sure which.
I saw her on Austin City Limits. Within 10 seconds i was entranced. Everything about this woman drew me in. Her music first and foremost. It was like watching a very hip Snow White sing Disney songs with one hell of an edge to them. I loved it

There's a 99% chance that anyone complaining about others calling Annie beautiful are themselves ugly females who are also mediocre artists. They feel that their bad looks are the reason their art is ignored, but it is really that their art is noit worthy of being recogtnized. With that said, Annie is hot as hell. I would marry her today if she asked.
St. Vincent is my new favorite band since I saw them open for Andrew Bird Yesterday in Columbus. Effing fantastic. I was about to skip the opening band altogether and I'm so glad I didn't because now I'm obsessed.
I agree w/the last comment. It's 2009, yet women are still objectified more often than not before they are celebrated as artists. I think overtime as more women are accepted in the media, society will become familiar with women as artists and this issue will fade.
Anyways, this was a really awesome video. Reminds me of Portishead and the movie Fight Club. A+ for her mentioning Criterion collection! Interesting for her to challenge herself with such exercises. I need to get this album on vinyl..
do you guys realize how enormously fucking irritated serious female musicians get at retarded drooling "ooh she's gorgeous!" comments? who the fuck cares. you're implying that if she looked like angela merkel she'd be somehow less worthy as an artist. she's being interviewed because she makes music, not because of her bone structure or makeup skills. would you direct these type of comments towards people you know in real life? no. you wouldn't. shut the fuck up. humanism. equality.
I think she's the most gorgeous person ever. I don't really understand her music though. What's your problem? We're just appreciating a person on another dimension.
if you think she's "the most gorgeous person ever" you need to get out more, as i'm sure annie would agree
by by swooning hysterically over her looks you automatically imply that anyone who isnt as finely featured who had the same amount of talent would be consequently less of an artist. that is unpleasant
How do you know what irritates Annie Clark or not? You have no idea. Not to mention, most women like to be called beautiful, regardless if they're serious or not. A person can comment on someone's good looks and still like their music. All they are doing is saying she is pretty. How is that in any way offensive? When I saw her live, everyone in the crowd was so pleased because not only is she gifted musically but she wonderful to watch. She's a true artist.
Yeah I know what you mean. But still, when someone's beautiful, someone's beautiful. There's no denying it. However, I do hate it when people care more about the looks than they do the music though.
Your an absalute moron. Sorry if shes attractive. The fact that you think that pointing that out is degrading her is rediculous. If some ones says that I'm attractive I'm polite about it. "Yes thank you" I would say. I wouldn't be a complete asshole and say "What am I just something to look at?" and put on a humanist shirt and protest the capitol. You remind me of a guy I met who had one arm and looked like Bob Dylan who couldn't take a compliment. You're one armed Bob Dylan.
Yes, I see that. The first three words of the refrain are "Marry me, John." So it's an easy uh mistake to make. And vitally important it be corrected, so thanks.
First thing that occurred to me when I heard "The Strangers" for the first time was that it sounded like the scene in Snow White where she's in the woods and then gets chased by the huntsman guy, if Annie Clark had scored that movies. Turns out that that's a possible influence for that song after all :)
It says something in the description about Annie Clark liking dichotomy. Well she can have some of my dichotomy any time she likes, IF YOU KNOW WHAT IM SAYING! *high five guys*
I saw her last week and met her after the show. She was fantastic and what impressed me was that she came out when the roadies were setting up and helped them out. And when I told her I could not afford to buy an album at the show, she said that I was getting something more special just by being there. Wonderful!
