  • Phil came to our after hour club in Osaka Japan around 30 years ago and jam with us, he play with my tenor sax, he is really the best and a man that never get old inside and outside, great man and a great musician.....

  • wow! this is the same "kid" i used to jam with many years ago at the Pink Elephant in Brooklyn...he could swing his ass off then and hasn't lost a thing in all the years...G--Bless mr woods..just keep on keepin' on..alan satz

  • It's real easy to give Phil so much well deserved credit, but everyone overlooks the rest of the crew - they sound great. Nice work boys.

  • @onlyonutube you ain't shittin', my man..they are outstanding

  • He is still the greatest alto player in the world and I could listen to him 20 hours a day,

His genius, and now his teaching and mentoring shows that he is a great man and always will be.

  • He (phil) Is so my hero the strongest man roaming this ball we have named Earth. He keeps getting and sounding stronger in his playing and has new things to always gift we alto players with.I'm making a lamp out of mine.LOL! Bravo Sir Phil I love you and you sound better than ever.Kiss Jill for me. Sal Alberico...

  • Thank you bcn for posting this but I must remind you that Phil turned 80 November 2nd Thank you for the clip and your kind heart for posting it.He and Jill are very dear to me and always will be forever.Again thank you.

  • this is awesome, its good to see that there is one jazz orchestra who knows what they are doing

  • Phil has said many times "any damn fool can sound good in his 30's and 40"s. Try sounding good in your 60's 70's or even 80's." He is really standing by those words here.

  • Hi, Jazzgent:

It was in Barcelona, august 2010, just 2 monthes ago. He can really blow, loud, clear, and really full of sensibility, just as he is. He is The Master. 79 years young.

I will share some fast tempos too.

  • Thank you for putting this up. Can you believe how good he sounds even now. His is the gift that keeps on giving. When was this?
