the greatest mistake of the post-Moi government was its failure to indict Moi for crimes against Kenyans, colossal theft of public funds and property, senseless killings of opponents... this criminal should be a guest at Naivasha Maximum Prison!
The fallacy of the Moi era was exposed by the flare up of the post election violence. Moi used the provincial and district administrations to dominate Kenya, and rob the citizens of their freedom. The one man rule of the provincial commissioners is set to be replaced by elected county local governments and governors. Kenya is moving ahead democratically.
well it is funny that to see the once powerful man rattled at last, he is worried of what he stands to lose and to me and many others thats a joy to watch. But what is not a laughing matter is the statement by Dr Wekesa yesterday that Moi's vast tea Kipgetich farm might not be inside the mau. is he having a laugh or does he think Kenyans are fools? Not funny at all.
in all fairness he was a great man...and he still is, that's me! he was my president for more than 20 yrs not less than 10....guys you can't change the past.
we will change the past my fellow , if we took this peop'le to hageu kenya will change ,tel that to, joe ageyo please dont show as hell we want to reach to canan but not miziri ok.
Moi was a thief before he becae prezzo, during and after...Kibaki is ten times better..as much as we complain, Kenya is much better with him out of State house..
Kenya has not yet produced it versions of Nyerere, Mandela, Kagame, Mahathir bin Mohamad--wo/men who have what the Romans called gravitas, sober wo/men who are understand world history, and despise excess joking/petty politics. Once educated Kenyans accept this, and the fact that such wo/men will only come from outside of the current political culture--bc todays politicans are just singing the same Moi song over a new beat--Kenya will never reach its potential of becoming Africa's Japan
I think Kenyans should not criticize Moi to harshly, The the other high political officials in Kenya are no more or less unethical and small minded as him (Kibaki, Odinga, Karua, Kenyetta, etc.). At least Moi's corruption had order. Who is to say things the 80's would not of been even worse with any one of these other "democratic" politicans.
What's that idiot doing the voice over for this clip going on about 'perfect conveyor belt' and 'well co-ordinated' 'well functioning and discipline' nonsense. If these factors were charactersitic of Moi era then kenya would not be a sorry state it is today. Moi era was 'efficient' in as far as it made fear a natural trait of the kenyan population through its methods. This idiot using cliches in wrong places should realise that. we don't want to be zombies again!
He ruled with an iron fist, I sang for him while in primary school and I enjoyed but i flopped my exams cos I missed schol so many times to go and entertain him. whenever he passed by our school the chief ordered all schools closed and all pupils to be at the roadside to cher him as he passed by.
Moi was indeed powerful and what I would call a powerful president. if only he used his powers to give us good things we would be very much ahead in those 24years... ole wetu
Moi might have fleeced kenya and some of us might hate him but the man sometimes makes a lot of sense. If this two centers of power are an example of what we will have once the draft constitution goes through...then my fellow citizens, you will see what a useless crippled govt we will have. You think nothing is being done now..wacha tu!.I personal want a dictator....a disciplined one who puts the country first.period!
@homescrutiner in retrospect i would prefer Moi over Kibaki,Today the cost of living is faaaaaaaaaaaaar too unaffordable than Moi's Era.I remember paying 10shillings for a loaf of bread today we talking of 100kshs fuel in kenya today is twice as much as high is it is here in USA.SAD You right Ppl mistake Discipline for dictatorship
These were good times. You know, I follow our former president well,.wouldn't be supprised if he were to return; he introduced a lot things, good/bad it really doesn't matter; since then we've only been introduced to the power sharing type of thing. which we do not need. I can see him coming back bcause the two men cannot rule.
I agree that he was a strongman and suffered the 24 year error whose residual consequences are still messing us up. What I was pointing out to is the mistake many make in reference to the west as though they are not complicit in some of these problems. They choose when to and not to criticize 3rd world despots based on how their interests are served.
Joe Ageyo, the Western Media only decided that Moi was an African strongman at the end of the 80's when he was no longer as important to the Western block of nations. While at the end of the day our problems are ours to solve, we should not be blind to the foreign interests that conspire to keep African nations at the bottom of the world order.
Moi messed up kenya and left it to the dogs. The day Raila Odinga will be allowed to be a presidential president with power, Moi will sleep in jail ordered by Odinga! watch this space.
