  • Dawkins, Harris and Hichens... 3 of the greatest writers on the subject

  • Just like you, Dawkin's book was the book about religion I was waiting for all my life, and I agree exactly with your review; perfectly captured it. Really enjoying these reviews; keep 'em coming.

  • I must say that Richard Dawkins is a fantastic science writer and when it comes to some of the more extreme elements of religion I totally share his horror but I'm afraid the God Delusion wasn't very convincing for me. I'd prefer it if Dawkins would be better sticking to what he does so well, writing about science.

Stephen Jay Gould is another example of a wonderful popular science writter who moved away from science & wrote a book on religion 'Rocks of ages.' , the book was not a good read..

  • Dawkins also has a double standard too. He cites a litany of statistics revealing red states (with many conservative Christians) suffer higher rates of crime, including murder, & theft, than do blue states. But now consider his response to the suggestion that the atheist Stalin & his comrades committed crimes of breathtaking magnitude: “We are not in the business,” he says, “of counting evils heads, compiling two rival roll calls of iniquity.”...Well, he certainly was a few pages earlier....

  • The God Delusion wasn't as good as Dawkin's science books I think. I liked he bits where he wrote about how an atheist can both a happy and moral person. However I read a review by H Allen which made some good points. Dawkins Ultimate Boeing 747 argument was at the centre of his argument. Dawkins branded his argument “unanswerable,” and boasted that it had stumped all theologians who had met it although the Ultimate 747 argument was shredded by reviewers......

  • very good review

  • good series, great reviews, thanks for all of the posts..!!!

  • you look like the guy from the atheist experience at first glance

  • @D3THFAN I know....I was at the AAI convention last October and 3 people mistook me from him...mind you as soon as I spoke they realised their error! (I even spell with a British accent!)

  • What are you (lyzippy2) saying at the end: "As an aside, I can ??"

I can't understand what you said.

Btw, great review and welcome to the wonderful world of rationality and reasoning!

  • I find The God Delusion to be a so-so book. It didn't suck, but it argued for atheism badly, because of two things: Dawkins' complete lack of knowledge about some of the subjects he talks about; Dawkins' "us vs them" dogma.

  • this book is great i love it well written and very readable

  • at 00:57 did he let one rip?

  • bought this book today. looking forward to the read!

  • i just bought it today... i bet im the only american today that did lol

  • Probably. Americans on average are fucking retarded.

  • I very much enjoyed your video's and look forward to seeing more. Keep up the good work.

  • The book is wonderful. I think Carl Sagan would have appreciated it.

  • It is a great book.... and it changed my life..... I think that everyone who would read this book would become at least agnostic if not an atheist. The problem is that most people don't wanna hear of it. It really sharpens your mind!

  • Nice vid, thanks for posting. I've read The God Delusion and Hitchen's God Is Not Great - they're both fantastic reads and invaluable resources for all atheists. I'm currently reading The Portable Atheist (ed. Hitchens) which is also great anf highly recomended.

  • This book changed my life. I threw out faith, thank you Dawkins.

  • i was just thinking the same thing. get people to read books. i might try do a few as well. read the world awake.

    peace

  • I was doing exams when I came across the book and couldnt put the book down. The book profoundly changed my outlook on life.I had trouble finding anyone who wanted to discuss it&I unwittingly offended a few people in the process of trying!!.I am a big dawkins fan&am currently reading The Ancestors Tale, helps put it all into perspective.I am concerned that there isnt enough hours of my life left, to read all the books I have lined up!loved your review,am going to check your others out now.julienne

  • Was that a fart at the 54 second mark????

    Couldn't believe my ears!

  • Nah, I have no idea what it is, it appears on may of my vids in the soundtrack. I think it's a problem with my built in microphone.

    But thanks for noticing!

  • LOL, that's a releif then.

Keep up the good work with the vids!

  • I have just finished the God delusion. it took me considerably longer than three days to read and I must admit to finding it hard going in places, but it also made me laugh out loud. I persisted to the end and am glad i did. I am also inspired to read some of the books that Dawkins referenced, in particular, Letter to a Christian nature. My next reading will be Christopher Hitchens's God is not great.

  • Hahahahahaha. Idiot.

  • I am not contradicting that the God delusion is a must read book. But has nobody noticed that in 'The God delusion' Dawkins seems to have a highly dubious compliment that we all share his prejudice and ignorance about religion? Then any criticisms to his points are simply met with 'well that is what you would say, isn't it?'

  • Good video! I too read and enjoyed The God Delusion, but what I admired most about Dawkins was the speeches and interviews he made whilst promoting his book. They are on Youtube and they are a delight!

  • 4/5 that's a little low for a book that set us both to be more vocal atheists. While it may re-work existing arguments it's one of those books that collates them into one place (with a catchy provocative title) and provides a good starting point. I would say 5/5.

  • I am going to make a playlist of this. Thanks zippy.

  • Thanks for the reviews. I think that is so great! I find learning is ongoing and the journey is never ending.

  • It was very much a springboard for me too. In my case it led to Sam Harris and Daniel Dennett. And I plan to read the Hitchens book sometime soon.

  • I'm just finishing Hitchens book now, well worth it and easily equal to Dawkins. Sam Harris is next on the pile!

  • I am working backwards with Dawkins having started at the God delusion. Thank you. Good video

  • I have to admit that I'm working backwards too. I loved "Devil's Chaplain" and the best so far is "Unweaving the Rainbow" I'm looking forward to the others.

  • This is great: I am very glad you are doing this. One of my favorite books is Dawkin's "Climbing Mount Improbable."

  • I've got that one and I'm looking forward to reading it.

  • I had pretty much the same reaction to The god Delusion. His other books are pretty good as well.

  • Absolutely! His other books played a major part in reviving my interest in science. I began about 10 years ago with Unweaving the Rainbow and The Blind Watchmaker.

He's written many good articles too, some of which are available online - google "World of Richard Dawkins".

  • I'm a lifelong atheist who's discussed religion on and off over the decades. TGD didn't tell me much that was new, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm delighted that it has helped so many atheists to come out of the closet, and so many undecideds to become atheists. Good review.

  • Sorry for the almost duplicate posts : the first one didn't appear initially, so I re-did it.

  • GalacticAtom, I found this about much of the book also. The collection of so many pieces of information over a period of time truly come together more than we realize.

  • I'm a lifelong atheist who's been arguing about religion every so often for many years. TGD didn't say much I hadn't already heard, but I still enjoyed it, and I'm delighted to see that it has inspired so many people to come out of the atheist closet, or jump off the fence into atheism.

  • I'm a new subscriber to your videos. I recently "came out" as an atheist(before I was agnostic) and I feel the same. I feel the need to gain more knowledge in the areas of science and philosophy and reading is obviously the best way to acheive this. "The God Delusion" is the book that "pushed" me towards atheism. Great book and Dawkins is a brilliant inspiration I feel. Excellent review.
