  • I like it!!

  • is she still going?

  • these are the toughest trucks! you could do this kind of stuff every day all day for like 10years and it would still start up and be ready for more! i have a 91 toyota pickup with 200,000ml and its the best truck iv ever owned... Awesome vid man!

  • nice vid!

  • Badass!

  • wtf ?????

  • nice yota gotta luv em urs is the same color as my 82 its a badass truck ive got a total of 9 in or lift and im running 40in micky tompsons super swampers my best mod by far is my new high performance 22re from LC enginering instead of the stock 112 hp this motor has 190 hp to 153 ft lbs of torc im also running detroit lockers in dana 60 axles

  • Sweet truck!

  • cant beat the old hiluxs. they go any where, got a 1983 2.4d, the square head lights, ye a bit slow but will pull up any thing.

  • What size tires are those?

  • 7.50 R16 (Firestone SAT's) Bias ply tyres

    (Approx 32.5" Dia)

    Fitted to stock 16" wheels.

  • @hiluxdaddy

Thanks. I was curious because there's a 33x10.5x15 radial out there somewhere. I'd like to run this size without using a full suspension lift. (I have a '94 with the IFS)

  • the tune is BOSS...

and your truck is wicked :) nice job mate. im looking at these as maybe a 1st chioce... i currently run a modded samurai

  • Nice truck. It looks similar to my small one, and is almost identical to my big one when I bought it ten years ago.

  • Not flashy but MAN OH MAN that thing is cool.

  • since i seen the 4x4 on the film back to future when marty mcfly has one in black with fog lights chrome bars all ways wanted one since

  • absolutly fantastic lovely colour amazing hilux they r the best

  • very nice pick up, here in portugal it s more common to see mk2 hilux, square lights.

i allways liked old hilux version, underpowered but strong like no other.

is that petrol or a 2.2d or 2.4d? what mods have?

i am a land rover guy, and you right it s all about fixing stuff but they really are good machines off roading... and it s very relaxing somehow spending nights at the shop changing half shafts lolol

    nice truck u got there

  • Thanks for your comments.

This Hilux had a standard 2.0L petrol (18R engine). The low geared 4spd g.box and 4.88 diffs sort of made up for low power.

I know Landrovers are great off-roaders - most of my friends have them. I just like to drive something different like a Hilux or Patrol.

Yes, a night in the garage with a few beers, working on your truck is great :)

    Best regards.

  • You are lucky to have such a cool truck. I have an 85 Toyota 4runner, so I know that Toyota's are good off road. Mine has over 200K Kilometers and even though I take it off road a lot it never stops running, no problems at all.

What kind of suspension do you have on yours? It's obviously not stock.

  • Very nice :)

  • Not bad, though, TBH, that's a Mk3. A Mk1 Hilux has a different front, having four headlamps and a smaller grille.

  • Yes you are correct. In the U.K. we call it a Mk1 because this was the first 4x4 model to be sold here.

  • Very cool dude, you scared me every time you jumped it I would hate to see it roll over or crash!!! But that is cool my first 4x4 was a 20r 1979 hilux long bed I restored but also made it off road ready with lockers, lift, 35' BFG mud tires and a few other things. Great job on the video keep posting more thanks man.

  • Thanks!! Actually, crashed it was - I let a friend have a drive. He failed to take a bend and ended up 'nearly' crossing a ditch. The impact actually bent the chassis.... and we still drove it home. Chassis was straightened (kind of) and it lived on for many more years. LOL

  • What year was this filmed? Right now I'm trying to convince my neighbor to sell me her 1981 Hilux:)

  • @hiluxdaddy well, you can fix it pretty easily rly :p

  • thats a joy ride!!!!!!!! I have a 1998 2.8D and im searcing for a good suspension. Any suggestions?

  • Thanks :) Best suspension set up depends what the truck is used for. Old Man Emu leaf springs are good. Also try All-Pro Offroad in the states for trick Toyota suspension parts. Nowadays people are converting Hiluxes to coil springs or coil-over shocks.

  • Love them first generation Lux'es

I have a 1995 2.8D also modified, and its a beast on extreme rocks, best bottom end torque, no turbo ever needed!

  • awesome! :)

  • u still own this truck?

  • dude thats a sick rig. ive been lookin for an 85 yota. but im gonna start lookin for one of these also now, either would be fine. the hilux would be more fun tho for sure.

  • i got a mk2, had it about 6 years , its never let me down and i treat it like shit some times. whats the music to this vid, it sounds well 80s!

  • dude thats the same as mine but you have cut the back off(gives evils i want to do that but it puts the insurance up)

nice truck i cant wait to get driving mine.

    5stars

  • Thanks!! I had this truck many years ago. Wish id kept it.

These Mk1s are very rare now - classic 4x4 status. Id love to restore one to original condition. It would be a shame to cut one up. Why not build a tray back for it and keep the original body complete.

Hope you post some footage of your Hilux.

    All the best !!

  • doesnt change insurance at all.

  • dANG looks like a tamiya lol

  • LOL. Yeah, i keep finding Tamiya vids when im looking for the real thing.

Its hard to tell the difference sometimes.

  • hahhah LOL

  • Those early Hiluxes are beautiful

  • just god like i know

  • great truck and footage

it looks like that truck could take on anything

  • I used to have a 1979 Hilux the build date was september 1978 and the vin # was 000021 all matching #'s too I baught it for $200.00 did a semi resoration and trail ready build on it had it for a while then sold it now livin with regrets but was one of the best trucks I've ever had now I have a 99 tacoma with a all pro four link sas kit on the frount with rear springs and shakle relocation and so on and so on its a daily driver to Toyota's are simply the best.

  • I love that 1979-81 style Please check out 4X4up a waterfall to see my 1982 truggy in action Stright axle is the best feature

  • Yeh, the ledgendary 79-81 is an all time design classic.

I watched your vid - 5stars. Cool truck on a beautiful trail.

  • nice to see another mk1 doing what they were ment to do

  • Is right !!

Check out this guys favourites if you like Mk1s. - jondohnson77

  • LOL...as you can see from my favorites I'm becoming a bit obsessed, but I'd rather unwind after work by hunting for cool Toyota vids than watch the horrid garbage on television;)

  • Great Truck!! Please excuse my American ignorance, but what does Mk1 mean? Just a model number or does it stand for something? As you probably know we call them the Toyota Pickup here in the states. I've heard of the Hilux but never a model number after it. Thanks for cool vid, it has been favorited!!!

  • Thanks, glad you like the vid!

Aren't you the guy from Miami Vice? Your Challenger is cool!

Mk1 means Mark1 or version1 as it was the first model of hilux 4x4 in the UK. This truck was an RN46 model with the 18R 2.0litre 4cyl Petrol. I sold it years ago. Wish i'd kept it now!! They're very rare here now.

  • pound for pound you guys can go in more places because traction is important to you. 1st thing they do here is lift and tire, last is gears and lockers.

    who rules? Toyotazzzzzz!

  • Off-roading in UK is quite different to the US. We have very little sand or rock to drive on -instead theres a lot of wet clay, grassy moorland, loose stone and tight woodland trails. Tall narrow tyres like Simexs suit our terrain. Also with Petrol at £5($10)gallon, we can't afford to be running gas-guzzling 44's :( LOL

P.S.- apologies for 'Tyre'. We've always spelt it wrong.

  • I love the way you guys wheel. Here in the US we cant get out of the parking lot w/ 44's

You guys rule. Show us how its done M8's

  • LOL. Yeh I used those wheels for cuttin pizza too!

Actually, this is quite an old film(before the large tyre sizes came popular in UK) Now everyones running big rubber....and we're still getting stuck?!

Anyway, we thought you guys rule. So who the hell does rule?

  • I love the way you guys wheel. Here in the US we cant get out of the parking lot w/ 44's

  • bad ass truck and killer sound track

  • hey hiluxdaddy can you add me to your friends list

  • i love toyota hiluxes. Are they expensive to insure cause i want to get 1 as my first car lol.

  • I got this truck when i was 17yrs. They can be insured quite cheaply but you MUST SHOP AROUND -some places charge the earth! Mods up the cost. Limited mileage ins keeps the $s down if you dont do many miles. Before you buy a truck, DO SOME RESEARCH so you know how much to pay and what to look out for - there are some rough trucks out there, beware! GOOD LUCK MATE.

  • do you still own it and did you bob the bed

  • Yeh, i bobbed the bed -real easy to do. Sadly i dont own it anymore -wish i did still own it cos these Mk1s are getting very rare in UK now. In the future i think there will be a big scene for classic/old-school 4x4s and Mk1 Hilux will be up there with the best!! Im collecting Mk1 bits now in the hope of doin a resto-project.
