The only reason people get stuck is because they don't know how to drive. In snow it is very capable as long as it's not extremely deep and you don't Stop. Our CR-V has over 123,000 miles and runs nice.
россия, что ещё сказать, у нас чтоб тестить тачки не надо создавать полигоны, у нас вся страна в этих экстримальных условиях, москва с вечными пробками не в счет.
By the way I have seen info by a Honda Element owner that shows how for about $160 in Honda OEM parts you can add a sixth gear and up the highway mileage, lower the highway interior noise and I suspect extend the life of the vehicle. Just Google for it.
Our 'V has never gotten stuck. Always able to back up out of trouble. We've taken it across fields, down 4WD trails, and through deep mud similar to that depicted in the video above. It's a very durable people hauler and tough enough for occasional offroad trips. It would not likely hold up to weekly offroad use but really, who needs that kind of toughness in a commuter/family hauler? I'd buy another '99 Gen1 brand new if I could.
Really good little people haulers with AWD for occasional offroad use. We have 217K on the original axles, struts, and clutch (!) and the five speed manual tranny is still perfect. I tow a Brenderup 1205S with mine all the time. Haul bikes, have pulled our VW van around town on a tow dolly during it's restoration, hauls our Scout troop gear in the trailer, have pulled a Plymouth Acclaim 50 miles on my tow dolly and a Honda Accord across town. Also towed my vintage Beetle over the mtn to my barn
Well I have to say this is the most capable cr-v i've seen on youtube. all the other videos are of people getting stuck in their driveways or driving on a dirt road.
The CR-V is designed for light off road, but as you can see, this one handled very well that "street". I have my own, and I will do something like that for the first time this weekend, in Costa Rica, from Nosara to Ostional, I love my CR-V!!! It's the best car I've ever had.
russians are idiots. everytime i see a utility vehicle forced to shit on some mountains or dirt. its always russians. tthey did it with the hyundais too
LMAO. This isn't offroading. My stock Liberty would pull this thing thru this along with pulling it in half in the process. This thing is made for 3 inches of snow and a few inches of water. Not this stuff.
@kilkun Your liberty as open differentials all around, so I wouldn't brag buddy. A Ranger FX-4 Level 2 was used to tow our Liberty out of a snowed in alley it got stuck in -- not a problem, but that Liberty was friggin' hopeless with open diffs and no locking or limited slip center diff either (we had the select trac with Part time 4wd hi). Command track in the Libertys, though lacking part-time 4wd, does have a locking center diff so that is a bit better. Even so, they're nothing special.
@WKHalford Ok so it might have a trak-lock, I wasn't aware of that. But saying that his "stock" Liberty would not only tow the CR-V through the mud and "pull it in half in the process" is pretty cocky.
@jgizzy True, that is cocky of him to say that. But although the Liberty doesn't impress me off-road like the last generation Cherokee did, with the right equipment that can actually do pretty good.
@WKHalford Well ya if you modify a vehicle a lot, a stock liberty wont go good off road at all. Most people assume you mean stock as a modified vehicle isnt really the same vehicle then.
@kevintomb QUOTE: "a stock liberty wont go good off road at all."
Lets add it up:
A stock Liberty has a solid rear axle that articulates, which helps to keep all 4 wheels on the ground better than a vehicle with 4 wheel independent suspension.
A Liberty CAN come stock with a pretty good limited slip differential in the rear. Although it's no locker, it certainly beats an open differential.
The CRV has neither.
I'm sure I can find vids of Libertys doing at least as well as a CRV.
@WKHalford "A stock Liberty has a solid rear axle that articulates, which helps to keep all 4 wheels on the ground better than a vehicle with 4 wheel independent suspension."
Really? Where did you come up with that ridiculous fact?
@kilkun not true at all..I used to own one and a jeep wrangler, the CRV in mud and stuff was quite equal to the wrangler many times. It has very flexible suspension, is fairly high and with decent tires it really plows through the stuff. The difference is a wrangler can be modded for thousands of dollars to be better, the crv cant. But stock against stock, they are quite capable, and thats coming from someone that didnt think they were either.
@sksakm14 I think the point is sitll, that MOST 4wd vehicles DONT come with locking differentials and for the most part are usually optional on truck type vehicles. Either way ive previously owned a CRV in the past and it was quite impressive on all season tires, and was actually just as capable as my jeep wrangler on all season tires through mud.
@sexyboi142 I went deep mudding in street tires in the Murano. Handled better than my F150 4x4. I have a CR-V now and I wished I saw this video first. :(
No, not designed for that, but the issue with these vehicles is more related to tires and driver experience...THAT would have been much easier without those standard road tires...
@17killerbunny I think it shows he can drive good more than anything and that the CRV is better than most of you guys think. I used ot own one, and while not great off road, it constantly surprised me many times.
@kevintomb I'd love to own one, It just doesn't pass with the wife, I already own a car why do I need another one bla bla bla. It'll never get the gas mileage my civic does anyway, I'd rather have the civic for my highway cruiser. I just don't need an suv.
Why the fuck does the Honda-crv cost 29k $ in usa while in India it cost 52k $ (24 lakhs).......Those bloody bastards at Honda are trying to rip-us off.....Rip-off......sob's I want an answer !!!
Why the fuck does the Honda-crv cost 29k $ in usa while in India it cost 52k $ (24 lakhs).......Those bloody bastards at Honda are trying to rip-us off.....Rip-off......sob's I want an answer !!!
why do people think the CRV is an offroad car. ITS NOT AN OFF- ROAD CAR!!! its an AWD. this just meants all torque from the engine go to the wheels. it DOES NOT HAVE differential locks, what normal 4WD have. its a beautifully well built comfortable car. but definately not designed for what is in this video!!! you just probly damaged ur car.
Normal 4wd's as you call them dont have differentail locks either. No car is an off road car, nor is ANY SUV or pick up truck. Only dirt bikes and ATVs were designed for off roading,.........Geez....
@kevintomb YOU are the one that doesn't have a clue.
Many "normal" 4wd trucks/SUVs have locking differentials FROM THE FACTORY. I have a "NORMAL" 4wd '06 Toyota Tacoma that has a selectable rear locking differential. Toyota has offered locking rear differentials for quite a few years now. Nissan and Ford now offer rear lockers. Jeep and now Dodge now offer FRONT AND REAR lockers.
GMC/Chevy has had a wheelspin actuated locker for OVER 20 YEARS, and as far as I know, they were the first.
@WKHalford Most dont have them stock. I do know what im talking about. They offer them, not standard usually. Limited slip diffs were not invented by GMC/CHEVY and they were around a lot more than 20 years.....you are clueless. Try back in the 50s.
@kevintomb I did NOT say STANDARD EQUIPPED with lockers. I said "normal", as in vehicles that I normally see on a REGULAR basis, such a Z71 Chevys, Rubicons, Tacoma TRDs, etc.
I did NOT say GMC/Chevy invented the limited slip.
I said GMC/Chevy were the first to offer a LOCKER as far as I know. It's a wheelspin actuated locker, but still a locker.
In fact, I think the GMC/Chevy locker has been standard for a while on 4wd.
Only a clueless person would so badly misread and misquote me.
@kevintomb In fact, I think the first limited slip differential was invented by the Eaton Corporation. The brand name was Positraction. It was offered on certain GM brands. If so, GM DID have it first.
"The Eaton mechanical locking differentials were the FIRST to be offered as an option to pickup drivers and today it is known around the world simply by the GM option code G80. This automatic unit, available as STANDARD and optional equipment for rear drive and 4-wheel drive vehicles, makes traction problems a thing of the past."
Those are VERY common, NORMAL trucks (MILLIONS sold over the years). And many had them as STANDARD equipment.
I've got a Crv. Drove down a ditch the other day, car was in tripod mode, got out no probs, really impressed. But as for doing this naa, get a proper 4x4
I used to own a jeep wrangler and with stock tires this CRV goes just as good. Its more about tires, luck and the driver than the vehicle itself. Traction is traction.
@kevintomb I am agree with you 100%. i have one CR-V and it's really a good suv. In sand i like it. I saw this video befor buy it. I will change nearly the suspension and lift 3-4 cms and after i will put better tire like All Terrain of BFG in 215-225/75 R15.
@jkeelsnc Almost NO street legal vehicles were actually DESIGNED to drive in mud if you think about it. A $36,000 Hummer?? a Jeep grand cherokee with leather seats that costs a small fortune??. A 5000lb pick up truck that sinks into the mud...is that "designed" to drive in mud really?? They are ALL designed to drive on roads first and foremost because all vehicles are Street legal and have to be most capable at highway speeds and so on.
Sorry man I have a crv but I have no idea how it does on icy roads. I've lived in Florida my whole life, never even seen snow. In fact I just got back from a perfect weather day at the beach.
Ice aside, if I had to choose I'd go xterra, I like the crv but its not that tough because its a cuv not an suv like the xterra(you may prefer that). Plus the xterra looks cooler.
@kj8525 if you want fuel economy, reliability, handling,city/hwy driving and lite offroading get the CRV, but if you are planning on doing a lot of offroading this isn't the car for you.
@kj8525 CRV is not a real off roader...actually the 4wd system in CRV is known to be very innefficient when you talk about off roading, it is good for city and dusty roads driving, but it is not a good off roader. Xterra is really good for off road. Its chasis configuration and 4wd system makes a great difference.
@kj8525 Oh, BTW, if you dont want something as big as the xterra or wants something with good style but also really good off roader, get a Suzuki Grand Vitara 4x4.
I'm planning to get an FJ CRUISER TRD Edition for offroad/towing duty, a Ninja 250 to replace the Ruckus, and then return to HONDAs with a CBR600RR... and since I'll have a backup car, I can retire the Civic and turn it into a track-car...
Compare the CRV to a jeep patriot or a Dodge caliber or comparable GMC they would all have the same off road capabiltiy except the Honda doesn't fall apart after 150k miles. Your a stupid idiot.
@BakerTypeR Yank cars barely make it out of the showroom ! My crv has done well over 150k my brother in laws Ford Explorer fell apart on Aussie roads ok for the schoolrun I suppose !
@BakerTypeR I think the CRV is more capable than a doge calibre for sure. The CRV actually has decent articulation and better ground clearance and ive actually driven them off road somewhat extensively. Its quite a bit better than it appears.
if u have an acura, it would last more than twice that, my legend fall apart after 400k miles and the only think that broke down is the radiator and a dead battery, gotta say the engine is the most durable thing in this car
@cameron20020 I just bought mine and took it to a scary assed trail near here. scary bro- it was just tiptoeing past shit that had two trucks completely trapped. I even stopped and offered up my rescue shovel for the poor bastards, and one was a jeep grand cherokee all built up like a rubicon. My CRV didn't even sink into the clay it was so light, and trust me those stock diffs do their job beautifully. I got a picture sitting underneath it with its right front tire all up in the air...
Why are so many people threatened by a little crv? It's a car based suv with a 4 cylinder engine. It's more economical as a daily driver than a gas guzzling v6 or v8. It performs amazing in the winter. It is a very reliable and cheap to own vehicle.
A 1980 front wheel drive mini with off roads tyres could have done better than that. My GF has a CRV and considered it to be reasonable off-road. No with slicks of course. Not sure what this vid is trying to demonstrate.
The only reason people get stuck is because they don't know how to drive. In snow it is very capable as long as it's not extremely deep and you don't Stop. Our CR-V has over 123,000 miles and runs nice.

ok thanks, i also like the look of the xterra better
kj8525 2 years ago
im trying to decide on getting a nissan xterra or a honda crv...which one?
kj8525 2 years ago
If you are planning on offroading get the xterra.
and2244rew 2 years ago
@and2244rew well most likely no, but im going to be going up snowboarding alot, so i need a car thats good with those icy roads
kj8525 2 years ago
Sorry man I have a crv but I have no idea how it does on icy roads. I've lived in Florida my whole life, never even seen snow. In fact I just got back from a perfect weather day at the beach.
Ice aside, if I had to choose I'd go xterra, I like the crv but its not that tough because its a cuv not an suv like the xterra(you may prefer that). Plus the xterra looks cooler.
and2244rew 2 years ago
@kj8525
I have a crv and rides it on icy roads alot. Ive had no problems at all. Ive pulled up 2 Volvos that were stuck in heavy snow this winter.
Good tires are always important though.
HerrHannibal 2 years ago
@kj8525 I recommend the xterra even though I have a CRV but the xterra is has a bigger engine and is better with off roading than the CRV
TheMichaelbenji 2 years ago
@kj8525 if you want fuel economy, reliability, handling,city/hwy driving and lite offroading get the CRV, but if you are planning on doing a lot of offroading this isn't the car for you.
BETO1BETO2 2 years ago
@kj8525 CRV is not a real off roader...actually the 4wd system in CRV is known to be very innefficient when you talk about off roading, it is good for city and dusty roads driving, but it is not a good off roader. Xterra is really good for off road. Its chasis configuration and 4wd system makes a great difference.
wtrdogg20 2 years ago
@kj8525 Oh, BTW, if you dont want something as big as the xterra or wants something with good style but also really good off roader, get a Suzuki Grand Vitara 4x4.
wtrdogg20 2 years ago 2
honda is for racing, not off road
178675907 2 years ago
@178675907
How's offroad not racing to begin with?
apexdna 2 years ago
I meant 1 / 4 mile and not specifically to the model CR-V, I'd say Honda
178675907 2 years ago
1/4 mile is only drag racing if not less, there's road racing, offroad events like rally and so on and so forth...
apexdna 2 years ago
I agree with you, you have a Honda??
178675907 2 years ago
I actually have 2, a '91 CIVIC Si and an '07 RUCKUS...
apexdna 2 years ago
nice, i have 2 honda civics 91 d15b and 98 b18c. HONDA RULES!!!
178675907 2 years ago
I'm planning to get an FJ CRUISER TRD Edition for offroad/towing duty, a Ninja 250 to replace the Ruckus, and then return to HONDAs with a CBR600RR... and since I'll have a backup car, I can retire the Civic and turn it into a track-car...
apexdna 2 years ago
lol, if car with a 4wd is meant for off road..

peice of shit foriegn car cant even barley get through the mud, next time I suggest you buy American.
gasmaster113 2 years ago
Ok,the CR-V wasn't meant to be a OFF ROAD whore in the 1rst place so any one who takes one will be in a hell of trouble to handle it.
The CR-V gravity center is just to low to take it off road unless suspension system is modified, period

Compare the CRV to a jeep patriot or a Dodge caliber or comparable GMC they would all have the same off road capabiltiy except the Honda doesn't fall apart after 150k miles. Your a stupid idiot.
BakerTypeR 2 years ago 33
@BakerTypeR What? CRVs are not meant to off road with. FFS they are a city SUV.
aznman18 1 year ago
@BakerTypeR haha the caliber is FF while the crv is an awd
123dodgecharger 1 year ago
@BakerTypeR AMEN my CRV 1997 going to 300k Km dono wat that is in miles but still runs amazing
Bcboi92 1 year ago
@BakerTypeR Yank cars barely make it out of the showroom ! My crv has done well over 150k my brother in laws Ford Explorer fell apart on Aussie roads ok for the schoolrun I suppose !
MrPomdownunder 1 year ago
@BakerTypeR I think the CRV is more capable than a doge calibre for sure. The CRV actually has decent articulation and better ground clearance and ive actually driven them off road somewhat extensively. Its quite a bit better than it appears.
kevintomb 1 year ago
if u have an acura, it would last more than twice that, my legend fall apart after 400k miles and the only think that broke down is the radiator and a dead battery, gotta say the engine is the most durable thing in this car

@BakerTypeR
their pretty good, and honda is quality,
only thing is, I would fit a front and back LSD to a crv if i got one and was taking it offroad
cameron20020 1 year ago
@cameron20020 I just bought mine and took it to a scary assed trail near here. scary bro- it was just tiptoeing past shit that had two trucks completely trapped. I even stopped and offered up my rescue shovel for the poor bastards, and one was a jeep grand cherokee all built up like a rubicon. My CRV didn't even sink into the clay it was so light, and trust me those stock diffs do their job beautifully. I got a picture sitting underneath it with its right front tire all up in the air...
LeonRFpoa 1 year ago
Rav4 Might of been better (Vchula) but you'd have to do the trip twice to go back and get the rest of the items you couldnt fit in your tiny boot..

dan602602 2 years ago
haha ya that crv looks out of place
arman757 2 years ago
Why are so many people threatened by a little crv? It's a car based suv with a 4 cylinder engine. It's more economical as a daily driver than a gas guzzling v6 or v8. It performs amazing in the winter. It is a very reliable and cheap to own vehicle.
rotarydialz 2 years ago 4
Surprisingly, not bad. The light weight of the vehicle, compared to a big 4x4, is probably what helped it a lot.
helorm341 2 years ago
Those tires sure did not help it.

I have a new one and i like it but the only bad thing is the front end is UGLY
FrenchAmerican14 2 years ago 2
A 1980 front wheel drive mini with off roads tyres could have done better than that. My GF has a CRV and considered it to be reasonable off-road. No with slicks of course. Not sure what this vid is trying to demonstrate.

Go buy a Jeep and get it over with - you know you want one. A stock Cherokee will go right thru that. Better yet - buy a Jeep Wrangler.
