I found this song at a dark time in my life and it helped me get through it, through sadness and laughter. I love the Cholo accent Frank uses in this track, reminds me of my uncles
Because of Frank's confidence in his voice, he pissed off a lot of people. Problem? Most people are weak and can't handle absolute confidence because they don't have it . . . in droves. It was that confidence in his genius that drove him to create some of the greatest music of our time. God bless Frank Zappa.
Eveybody listening to this great side by Zappa has to first look at the context: in '66, we were all sitting around trying to be hippies and listening to "Freak Out", when all of a sudden, up pops this stone 50's ballad. We all felt very uneasy 'cause we were past this era but didn't want to admit that we still dug this style performed only as Zappa could have done it... probably the effect he was going after?
i dig the early zappa albums not just for all the great music but also because of the lyrics. they are both powerful and funny but most importantly still just as meaningful as almost 50 years ago
Ray Collins is the man who sings lead on this tune. He was the lead singer of the Mothers, in the original incarnation, and brilliantly so. Zappa NEVER HAD a better singer.
I don't love you anymore. You cheated me baby and told some dirty lies about me. Fooled around with some other guys, and that's why I've got to set you free.
Since there's obvious influence with the Stones with Jumpin' Jack Flash and Hungry Freaks, Daddy, does anyone else hear Time Is On My Side in the beginning of this song?
I was partly raised on Farnk Zappa,,he's the greatest. I still can't believe he's gone,, I surely miss him. How many times have you seen him in concert?,,,me,,twice....
I had PJ Kirkland from KGY in Olympia Washington play songs from side one and two on his late night AM radio show .. 1966-1967. the doo wop is beautiful .. you didn't try to call me ...wowie zowie ... go cry on somebody elses sholder and how could i be such a fool.. any way the wind blows .. all classics .. Phil Pearl .. I'll never be able to thank you enuf for that. PS remember me .. I was the guy that won the psychedellic poster contest.. d.douglas lukascik
This album is kind of my break up album, though i look at it as an awesome psychedelic album, songs like "How could I be such a fool" and "go cry on somebody else's shoulder" are the exact humourous but true words i wish to speak, long live the legacy of Zappa, i love his music and his message.
doo wap ... 'thats why i had to get my khakis pressed' ... i happened to catch the original bands last show in Frisco 68? ... good vibes, great music, really wonderful ...
I can't hear these songs without remembering the liner notes - "no commercial potential"!?!?!?!? I 'liberated' this album on Christmas Eve, 1967. I got to hear and see the Mothers five times in Vancouver. Life is good to me!!!
Speaking of liner notes, on Freak out! this particular track is presented thus: "Go cry on somebody else's s shoulder ... is very greasy. You should not listen to it. You should wear it on your hair." :-):-):-)
Some of the Best of the mothers! thanks for posting this collection.. i'm off to the store and going to get the cd's to replace the old albums that are just collecting dust!
I love the song title what a brilliant band leader he was a great satirist as well

@zombieman62 alongside zappa would it be reasonable to include the fugs? or joseph byrd & the united states of america?

@wallofvideo Wow, the Fugs. They were definitely innovative in a beat poetry sense, but I'm not sure a lot of people know who they are.
