  • Slow pitch softball and baseball are completely different when it comes to hitting mechanics. I've played baseball nearly my whole life, and just started playing slow pitch with my father-in-law's team. I never realized how different it would be. In baseball I was able to hit with decent power, even though I'm a damn shrimp lol (5'4" 130 lbs.) but in softball, I can't hit with any power. I'm slowly learning though.

  • baseball swings and slow pitchare completly diff. I played baseball from 1st grade all the way to high school. Now I play slow pitch softball and I am the worse hitter ever. I am 6'2 250 lbs and can't hit for power if i had too.

  • ...this is what my softball coach tells me NOT to do...

  • I hear different things from ppl, don't know what technique to use.

  • say selena gomez 5x. clap 5x post this on 5 other vids and see what happens to your voice.

  • R.I.P

  • I watched this clip this morning then hit the cages before my game--hit the ball real well extending my arm made a huge difference went 3-4 thanks great tip

  • can anyone tell where to find videos of fastpitch softball tips

  • and he is going to pop it up and be an easy out.

  • The 3rd guy in the beginning in the red jersey looks like Kevin James... Had to rewind to make sure!

  • I can't believe this dude is giving batting tips on how to hit a softball or that anyone takes the time to make a video. He should be ashamed of himself. Here's how to hit a softball, stand at the plate wait for the pitch and swing. It's softball for petes saks!

  • Danny Williams gave some of the greatest advice I ever heard. Stiles & I were hitting balls out of the Astrodome with Carl Rose & Jim Fuller for the TV News (back when Rose was hitting one/a ton, out of every major league park.) The news camera man asked if he could take some swings. He did, & it was pathetic. He asked "What am I doing wrong?" Danny replied "Take about a thousand cuts & THEN you can start trying to figure out what you are doing wrong." Who knew Danny wasn't just a big dumb jock?

  • Johnny, I'm only 6' 190lbs and I played pro-softball for 15 years because my swing mechanics were better than the giants I was playing with. The most important advice though is all your power is in your legs and hips. If you watch a major league pitcher watch how much his hips turn BEFORE his upper body and then arm comes around. Hitting is the same thing. Also look up "Rotational Hitting".

  • This is helpful... xD

  • Uh, we could hit "good pitching". It just takes an incredible amount of talent, skill, and luck to make it to the pros. Maybe you can hit the lights out but you aren't big and don't have a major league arm. Or you do and you can hit but you are Paul Bunyan (no offense Jim) And Mr. Fuller actually played for the Orioles, but you get hurt or old or any of a bunch of reasons. But you miss being on a team so you adjust your swing, play softball, and dominate guys like you, cneale31.

  • @JLIV461 lol.nice

  • Great video! I love America :). I just started a softball co ed league 1st time ever, i am athletic, however i am not good at hitting. Went 2 bat cages hit fast softball ok (a lot of ground balls) and couldnt hit slow at all, maybe 4 out of 28. My wrist and hands hurt today from it but i want to get better! I will try this technique tonight 4 practice. I would greatly appreciate if you can give me any other tips on hitting. Appreciate the video and thank you in advance.

  • thats wrong!i play softball and i do fast pitch and if u did that u would be way off from the ball u dont snap u do it slaowly and when no one ajusts me i hit the ball perfectly but when people do ajust me i suck!

  • @TheGbaby6 and you also suck at english! :D

  • Okay people listen carefully cause everyone gets this wrong!!! THIS IS NOT A BASEBALL SWING!!! ITS A SLOW PITCH SOFTBALL SWING!!There are different bats, balls, speeds, fields, its a different sport. If this was a baseball swing it would be way off! BUT ITS NOT. The extension of a softball swing is a night and day difference from baseball, these guys were bp allstars when they played baseball, but couldnt hit good pitching, however they dominated slow pitch softball. The mechanics are different

  • Nope. The mechanics are the same, it's just a bigger swing. Just like the difference between a long-distance driving competitor and a PGA golfer. It's all the same. Slow-pitch hitters just have more time to wind up. They also have to adjust to a lob ball. Everything else remains the same. The human body delivers maximum power the same way in these sports. There is no fundamental difference between a softball and a baseball swing.

  • The stride, swing and timing are all different.Granted the lower half is ALMOST the same but they are 2 different swings. If you took a softball swing into a baseball game (even if you timed it perfectly)you would be in a different hitting position @ contact with a softball swing. You would be seceptibal to rolling over being out in front of off speed and getting "sawed off" on hard stuff.Go to 2:00 of this video look at the contact point, then look @ a big leaguers c point. They are differnet!

  • @cneale31 Position @ contact should be the same for baseball and softball. Look at 1:14 to 1:24 of the vid. That's basically a big baseball swing. The 2:00 mark looks like a pose to me. Notice how stiff his arms are and how he scrunches his head between his shoulders. Nobody could hit consistently like this. The 1:24 point and the 2:00 contact point are completely different. If you want to hit .150 and ground to third everytime, then go ahead and snap your hands and elbow outward.

  • You seem like a resonable guy Wibu, but your in the wrong, not to"1up" you but I played AA for the Giants before getting released and I know a baseball swing on a professional level cause I was one.The guy actualy explains it on the 1:14 to 1:24 part of the vid that you pointed out.He said his arms fully extend at contact (in softball). Extention accurs after contact on a baseball swing. I dont THINK Im right I know I am,Im not that smart, but with baseball I know my shit. They differ!

  • The guy explains it wrong! Full extension at contact my ass! The V position @ contact is B.S.! The back elbow should be bent at contact @ a baseball and a softball swing. His back arm is not totally extended at contact. We don't disagree cneale, it may be a misunderstanding. Manny's baseball swing along with Adrian Gonzalez's swing would equate to a perfect softball swing. Just adjust it to a lob-balled arc and wala! Perfect softball swing! Great that were AA! Nice to talk to someone who knows!

  • @wibu99 Pro Baseball players get killed in softball games. They can't get it out of the infield. Even guys like Bonds and Bagwell that you'd think might have a chance. It's not completely different, but it's different enough to make your statement ridiculous.

  • @cneale31 Like I said before; He may "think" his arms are fully extended at contact but they are not. Look at a picture of Pujols at contact. That's what Super Open softball players look like at contact. Basically you both understand the swing but cneale knows nothing about softball. Other than he likes to look down his nose at people who play it. The swing is basically the same, except bigger like Wibu said, but the mental approach is different.

  • @wibu99 did you play at a proffesional level?

  • @cneale31 , How is that swing any different than Ted Williams Rotational Hitting theory? It's not you moron.

  • This video is good advice. He clearly "knows how" to hit a softball. But using your legs and hips "will make or break you". He really isn't talking about extending your arms to a Power V until AFTER you hit the ball. He is telling you to extend through the ball into a Power V to make sure you drive through the ball instead of pulling off and slapping it. Your arms won't be fully extended at contact. When I was coming up I asked Paul Drilling how to hit the ball further; he said; swing harder!

  • @cneale31 NOBODY hits "good" pitching. Moron.

  • @cneale31 oh yeah that totally make sense...you have completely different swings on fast pitches than you do for slow pitches, so a major league hitter could crush a 99 mile per hour pitch, but if it's ten miles per hour or less he's screwed.......hitting mechanics are either good or bad, doesn't matter how fast the pitch is

  • @watchandbamused

in fastpitch baseball the pitcher generates the power with the speed of the pitch.... in slow pitch softball not much power is generated from the pitch bc the pitch is slow. therefore the power is generated more soley by the batter than it is in fast pitch. therefore the swing is different bc you need to generate extra power. can you swing like this in baseball? sure but you wont hit much.

  • @lulu122296899999 what in the swing changes? well in this video all he said was extend your arms after contact, your suppose to do that in baseball as well. I know in softball people run up and hit the ball, but how is the actual swing different?

  • You obviously have a great swing, but you don't teach it very well. Never snap your wrist before contact or extend your arms away from your body. The swing is an arc, not linear. You do have a nice swing though. You might want to study it a bit more.

  • Regardless of how you approach it, if you don't create arm extension you are going to have a more difficult time generating power.

Also, if you bring the bat and body through at the same time, most instructors will tell you that you are dragging the bat through the zone - usually generating less bat speed.

It still remains basic - step hard and drive down, rip the hips and let the hands fly. If done right it looks like one motion but in essence it is broken down into 3.

  • i got a question which should go through the zone first the hips or the hands

  • katylee you are a retard... thats exactly how you hit, if you wanna hit 350 +

  • I understand what he's saying, but I still hit the old way. Bat back and swing through fast. i can't snap the arms like he's doing and I still hit as hard and as far as anyone, I've played against.

  • Some can only hit, some can only teach. He definitely can hit and his excellent mechanics are rotational too, but his verbal teaching methods don't match the video example.

"Do what he does not what he says"

  • noooo thts not how u swing in softball!!! u go all the way back!!

  • yeah i think you would no better than CLass A player...

  • hahah bogus

  • God dam banjo playing Americans...

  • this is probably the opposite of what is right... this is just the roids doing the hitting

  • well Bob's been at this a long time...id say he knows what hes talking about. Hitting a softball requires different technique then hitting baseballs.

  • Rotational hitting is what all power and non-power hitters do in the MLB. It is keeping the back elbow pulled in to the body, and barring the front arm so the wrist-elbow portion of the lead arm is in line with the bat at contact (unless they are behind or ahead) and shifting weight into the ball. almost every single major league hitter does this, with the acception of maybe Ichiro.

  • baseball and softball are two completely different swings

  • @zach91593 ik everyone say oh just a few different thing but its actually a total different thing

  • @zach91593 you got that rite! their swing are different and their pitch are different 2.
