There is no such thing as the " civilian radioactive services ", nor is this map accurate, or based on anything useful or truthful.
The amount of radioactive emissions encountered in the US at this time are not hazardous or dangerous to health. Even near Fukushima, there is little danger to the civilian population. So all these videos do is spread unnecessary fear.

When they consolidate or concentrate in a source, that's when it becomes a problem. You would have to eat these foods, and no others for a long period of time to see any ill effects. Also, plants naturally absorb radium from the soil. And the fish will be affected, bit not on any sort of scale you or i would be able to notice.

For anyone that does not know, radiation decays into harmless materials. By the time radiation hits the US, it will disperse and become weaker because of the principles of radioactive decay. @5 2000 REM (not Rads) is the exposure needed to kill someone if absorbed in a one-time dose. 500 would lead to a mild/medium case of radiation sickness. secondly, i am in Hawaii right now, and i can tell you for a fact (based on my own readings, not the readings anyone has told me, that radiation levels have not increased in the least. other that that, i agree with ya dude.

The reactor building itself looks to be structurally damaged, and they had explosion within containment - real bad. BWR containments are not quite as robust as PWR. Still I'm in awe how much this plant has endured and still stands.
I agree about the prayers. Hard to imagine losing your home, family, etc., but having to deal with this crisis - these folks are heroes. But I disagree that it can exceed Chernobyl. Chernobyl had NO containment of any type. Half the core was blasted into the sky when it blew up. If all 3 of these plants "melt down" still won't be as bad. It's physics. It's also fortunate that prevailing winds here tend to blow offshore. I have feeling unit 2 is going to be bad.

They may very well have to abandon these plants if radiation levels get too high to stay on site. If they do that, the reactors will probably fail but the doses would not be anything like that shown on the map. Those doses didn't even occur from Chernobyl. These reactors are a million times better protected than Chernobyl. BTW, I worked at identical plant.

Let's do the math; 1 Gy = 1 J / kg = 100 Rad, 1 Rad = 0.01 Gy, 1 Gy = 100 centigray (cGy), 1 cGy = 1 Rad, therefore, if a lethal dose of Gamma Radiation is 30 Gy/Sv that would be 300 Rads/Rems! When they consolidate or concentrate in a source, that's when it becomes a problem. You would have to eat these foods, and no others for a long period of time to see any ill effects. Also, plants naturally absorb radium from the soil. And the fish will be affected, bit not on any sort of scale you or i would be able to notice.

The contamination that is airborne has a half-life of under 12 hours. In 3 days it is no longer above normal radiation levels. All long-term radiation is captured in the facility or melted down into the earths crust.
You can relax the only major impact will be on the local environment within 10 miles of the nuke plant.

@5 2000 REM (not Rads) is the exposure needed to kill someone if absorbed in a one-time dose. 500 would lead to a mild/medium case of radiation sickness. secondly, i am in Hawaii right now, and i can tell you for a fact (based on my own readings, not the readings anyone has told me, that radiation levels have not increased in the least. other that that, i agree with ya dude.

The reactor building itself looks to be structurally damaged, and they had explosion within containment - real bad. BWR containments are not quite as robust as PWR. Still I'm in awe how much this plant has endured and still stands.

I agree about the prayers. Hard to imagine losing your home, family, etc., but having to deal with this crisis - these folks are heroes. But I disagree that it can exceed Chernobyl. Chernobyl had NO containment of any type. Half the core was blasted into the sky when it blew up. If all 3 of these plants "melt down" still won't be as bad. It's physics. It's also fortunate that prevailing winds here tend to blow offshore. I have feeling unit 2 is going to be bad.

@BlairofScotts - the map is still tripe. The plants are failing, but the doses shown on the map are pure BS, just as others have said. They may very well have to abandon these plants if radiation levels get too high to stay on site. If they do that, the reactors will probably fail but the doses would not be anything like that shown on the map. Those doses didn't even occur from Chernobyl. These reactors are a million times better protected than Chernobyl. BTW, I worked at identical plant.

@Itrytoplaytheguitar Thank you for your obviously well informed reply. God help the Japanese. I pray for them. All of those children - and the unborn. Unlike Chernobyl, there are 11 reactors at this plant! You have to admit that this has the likelihood of being far worse and far reaching than Chernobyl.... :(
