Basically there was nothing wrong with that ledge or the jump even, it was like you said the snowpack was rock hard, which is why you didn't sink at all on landing, that must of really hurt. Only ledge jump when you know the snow is soft. Maybe you didn't intend to do this jump, I don't know, but if it was an accident, you committed to it nicely!
Accidents unfortunately happen to most of us sometime. Are you alright - no soft powder landing there :-(
I dislocated my left knee when i slipped on ice while at-skiing and the binding diddn't release. Took 4 moths to be able to walk normaly. Luckyly there was no need for an operation and i was able to move about carefully with a supportive bandage , ibuprophen and icegel against the swelling.
