The problem with this America vs. Gay thing is that too many people have a gay in their family and everyone want other people to love and accept them as they do. But if you love God as you should, the jealous God he is, how do you put the gay persons acceptance before the will of God?

The hospital would not allow the woman in to see her dying partner, who passed away 6 hours later without getting to say goodbye. Well, maybe it's just me, but I don't think it's too unfair. Everyone else is elected BECAUSE they are straight, and because they are christian or catholic. These people forget to mention that their current decisions are biased at least a little by their own views and beliefs. I honestly could find no other reason that gay marriage would be illegal, religion plays a major part in law making, where logic is meant to be the main contender.

What I was saying was not that being a christian and being straight were the only qualifications needed, but that if you don't meet these qualifications there more of a chance you won't be accepted. It's not so much identidy politics regaurding a gay supreme court justice. The Rebublican view is that a gay justice would no doubt support gay marrige, or any other right leaning veiw for that matter. Gays for obvious reasons are demographically to the left. Thats their issue. I would support a gay justice nominee, but I still need to see where they stand on every issue. For instance I support civil liberties, gun rights, and the death penalty(in warrented cases). I want those rights protected.

You're uneducated. The DSM states that homosexuality is not abnormal. The word 'queer' means abnormal; however 'queer' by definition doesn't mean homosexuality. if companies started firing everyone that they thought was not gay.... ( say, to avoid having to pay for health care costs of spouses, and children) heterosexuals would complain (rightly so), but since gay people have traditionally been the targets.... many states still allow for that kind of discrimination.... so you can add the right to work, now you have 3, plus all the other rights associated with those three...

IMO Identity Polticis is very dangerous. It basically says the individual is meaningless...he/she has value only as a member of their "group". Our entire system is based on rights for the individual...not groups. The Dems are on very thin ice with this stuff.

Conserving energy or using energy is important b/c THE COST OF ENERGY IS GOING TO RISE INCREDIBLY over the next 50 years or so. I didn't see anything wrong with that guy in the first part, being gay shouldn't matter at all. There shouldn't be this retarded discussion about "diversity" when dealing with justices, simply about how good of a justice they would be. The idea that it shouldn't matter was the vibe I got from him. Maybe I misunderstood him, but whether or not he's a homophobe I saw nothing wrong with what he was saying. That one was a little weak, Cenk. His answer was more diplomatic than typical right-wing dogma. Also, he didn't say it was a bridge too far. Another senator said that. He said it may be a concern for some people. He did say (Not necessarily mean) that such a person should be chosen by his or her legal credentials. In all fairness, he was simply saying that republicans might feel at a disadvantage because of a possible gay justice. Even democrats want politicians who agree with their agenda.

I agree. Even though it was obvious the senator did not in any way want a gay justice, he was almost flawlessly diplomatic.
And he didn't say a gay justice would make him uneasy, he simply said it might make the American people uneasy. ANd he's right; there would almost surely be a lot of politcal backlash from the appointment of a gay justice. Whether it should be that way or not, it is.

One is one of my best-friends since about 12, another is his friend, and the third is a friend of my sister. They are great people, but they got an addiction and they live their lives validating it. tracy: I agree completely. The hope is that full acceptance, including marriage, will result in a more sedate lifestyle. I think it will work for lesbians and older gay males.
But...for young gay males, I'm not so sure. Young men (straight and gay) want sex; lots of it and with usually with a variety of partners. So...I'm not sure gay marriage is going to cut down on the promiscuity/hedonism of young men. That should be part of the bargain; gay marriage in exchange for closing the bath houses

However, IMO the primary reason gays tend to be emotionallly fragile is because they've been treated horribly for so long.
I'd also agree that the gay lifestyle is horrendous; mainly because men (straight or gay) tend to be sexually promiscuous...and with gays it totally male, so they're....totally promiscuous. Sex without any emotional attachment. That's what animals do, not humans.
