but their new sound, i can't say it's straight thrash metalcore, it pulls so many influences, it may pull the subgenre in a new direction

Metalcore is a creation out of Thrash Metal, Death Metal and Hardcore, so it's normal, that they have Thrash Metal parts. Ok, there are bands, who mix only Death Metal and Hardcore (Deathcore) and some who mix Thrash Metal and Metalcore (Thrashcore), but Trivium still have enough Death Metal Elements.
