It's interesting how one area can turn from tutorial dungeon to really frickin' hard bonus dungeon depending on the order of playing the games; lots of creative programming/design going on.

If you think about it, since the gnarled key would act as a substitute for the seed satchel except you have to go through a dungeon to get it this time, there is one less dungeon that matters in oos and one less item (well I guess since ooa had the mermaid suit to fill in a dungeons item slot)

Basically, it's something that seems important at the time, yet once you do obtain them it's like the game/show forget about whatever it was/they were and never references them again, like the eight essences in these two Oracle games. Just an excuse to go through eight dungeons.
