  • No, it was not the best Real World ever. It would have been if they had filmed this season in the SE quad. LOL. It's a beautiful city but too many bad people, both streetwise and politically. Nonetheless, it's my neck of the woods.

  • @Kevvo2011 BAHAHA. Far from it. If the Real World House had been in SE then I *definitely* would have watched the show. My neck of the woods too, but you do get both bad and good people in any city.

  • hahahahaha that dude is all up in her face hahahaha

  • this is exactly what the church of scientology does

  • hahahahahaha!!!!!!!! @ that nigga wif da camera

  • What Are They Doing Anyway?

  • Callie is the sexiest & funniest person ever. I want to meet her in person someday.

  • They need to stop making these real world shows it went down hill along time ago

  • Fuck " real world". Fuck mTV. Fuck reality TV. Fuckin fake show. Fuck You. Fuck Society and Fuck the world.

  • @bloodynachos Here's a paper bag. Breathe in... Breathe out... It's going to be OK.

  • @bloodynachos you need to chill the hell out man damn

  • Lol wth is this.. this guy is just all up in her ass

  • @NicFusionaire The camera man was allegedly instructed to do this by the show's executive producer.

  • Amazing how the cast of these shows keep getting more and more stupid and shallow. Just when you think they have found the dumbest idiots on the planet the next season comes around and you have to eat your words.

  • @ghost2171 It's about aesthetics and controversy. The networks have learned that people don't really want to know about the real issues... that requires that their brains are engaged.

  • I would've started shit with viacom's thugs...fuck them...you can tell I could've kept calm in that situation lol

  • @uvter No point in getting yourself arrested for some underpaid camera man who was only doing what he was instructed to do.

  • reality shows suck!!

  • Josh is a cuntbag. I hope he gets shot: repeatedly cheating on his girlfriend and then breaking up with her to have a one nightstand before spazzing out at everyone else. Ty defending his cheating ass before he can be found in that outrageous 'be concerned about the big black man' meeting the housemates had. Andrew was the only one who had Ty's back. Josh is scum. The second one I hate the most is that chick who bickers with everyone. Ugh! Emily just has issues and likes to elad people on

  • I can kinda see why though. I mean they were probably shooting this season while the previous season was still airing. They do want to keep a certain amount of secrecy before the show actually airs so yeah if I was MTV I wouldn't be too happy about it either.

But maybe instead of keeping it secret maybe they should embrace it. ^_^

  • All the cast members a shitty people with shitty personalities..espeacially that hispanic bitch that likes to argue all the damn time..god I hate MTV for these crappy reality shows

  • i know your going to take this lieki want to arghue with you, but why do you have such feelings towards a tv station that plays shows for a demographic and not just.... you

  • I think you meant Hysteric, not Hispanic...

  • lol, he's like an inquisitive robot

  • Love that the camera man is wearing an apple shirt! Fitting, I think!

  • mtv sucks dick

  • I heard that for S24, they are going back to the Big Easy, New Orleans.

  • i dont get it. he doesnt do anyhting. do u mean the camera guy?

  • Who doesn't do anything? The camera guy for MTV prevents the local news reporter from conducting an interview.

  • Why were they doing this? MTV has some balls could you imagine if others did that to them and got all in their face? That was fucked up. Why did they have to be dicks? They were obvioulsy told to do this by a producer or director?

  • All the mobile HD cameras are fed wirelessly back to a central control room, allowing them to direct movements. The camera man was allegedly acting on a direct instruction from Jim Johnson, executive producer for The Real World. In a magazine article, Jim later claimed he was doing this tit for tat because he felt others were infringing on his turf.

  • And now you truly see the sick minds behind it all. It always the people "behind" the scene that tend to be ones that need to get there asses kicked.

  • that was not mean/douchebaggy ,that was funny lmao xD

  • wtf lol

  • bunch of morons, I wonder how they feel about being right down the street from Scientology idiots.

  • lol

  • Wow, what as asshole. He was ASKING for there to be an altercation.

  • He was just doing what he was allegedly instructed to do by the Real World's Executive Producer.

  • I still don't see the point. i used to shoot in dupont for a video production class at AIW and if that happened to me while I was shooting I'd be in jail... no way i couldve kept cool during that like you all. bravo for that.

  • What I believe happened is this: Bunim-Murray Productions is used to having complete control of the environment/situations during production. They come to DC, outspoken-blogger-haven-media-central, and find that they themselves have become the story. They didn't like it so Jim Johnston allegedly tried to strong-arm the locals, only to find out that behavior doesn't cut it in DC. They may be big news in Alabama, but they're small potatoes here.

  • being to nice. thats a public street and im sure in a busy spot...call the cops. shes working and dude is interrupting her. she is local news so im sure, dude would be immediately removed or told to do so. i would have waited and did my interview outside of the house next time with a cop. mtv would be on tv! sometimes, we as women need to be assertive and get the job done while dealing with issues. this was a no brainer... i love dc. it never gets old if you're open minded

  • Unfortunately, not that simple. While the behavior was questionable they were both in a public space and neither were actually breaking the law. There was no physical contact so assault and battery isn't a concern. The mayor's office went out of their way to assist MTV during the show... I'm pretty sure DC police wouldn't immediately remove him. This story aired on local news so MTV was on local TV.

  • why was the guy with the camera being so mean?

  • @kbusses The camera man (Ryan Romkema) was allegedly acting on a direct instruction from Jim Johnston, Executive Producer of The Real World. Jim (incorrectly) felt that Lindsay Mastis of WUSA was interfering with their production. I was on-location and can verify that Ms.Mastis was the consummate professional at all times & didn't interfere. Jim allegedly let Ryan take the blame after this story received mainstream media attention. Jim's alleged involvement wasn't revealed until months later.

  • I find what those MTV camera crewmen doing insulting.

  • That cameraman is a poor man's Chester Bennington.

  • Some classic quotes in here, "DC is the new Hollywood" "Gonna be the best real world ever" I'm sure this guy thinks the Nationals are winning it all next year.

  • HAHAHAHAHA

  • Of course you have the token moolie with the white chick, it just wouldn't be MTV without it .

  • those crewman are douches!

  • damn I'd like to see the video version Ryan Romkema shot, then again was his camera even on? :-)

  • The guy in this video is Martin from the loveelizabethany videos, and other videos...I think he is a reporter.

  • I identified Martin in this video with a CG overlay, and included a link to his Twitter page. He's not a reporter.

  • my bad...I thought he said he was a video blogger/reporter in a loveelizbethany video. Thanks for this vid!

  • No worries... If you want more details hit me up via Twitter.

  • hahahaha this shit is hilarious

  • that crew is hilarious

  • The Crews Are ASSHOLES! this is why the people in D.C. want them to leave. there rude and like we don't get this kind of stuff in D.C. that much so they need to get that

  • lol you got to admit it was pretty funny and douchebagish

  • complete and total assholes.. MTV needs to grow up

  • The Real World of The Real World. MTV should be proud. Good publicity, bad publicity...the operative word is publicity. Be a jerk, then submit an apology (as the camera person did...sorry, I can't call him a man). Now that is quality journalism. A great legacy to pass on to future journalists? Your family must be proud.

  • MTV sucks. The immaturity level of that cameraman and crew should be a prime example of WHY many in DC aren't welcoming the show or the type of people who end up on it.

It's a bunch of unnecessary stupidity that DC doesn't need over a handful of crap cast and crew who will no doubt continue to validate the groups who aren't welcoming their presence.

Way to go MTV! Make your demographic look like complete idiots and capitalize off of it!

  • mikesica - is this guy a cast member? or just some passerby? how did you happen to shoot this video?

the one thing that no one has mentioned is that between ENG and non-ENG photogs, there seems to be a professional courtesy... at least in my experience. this female reporter is just shooting an interview, and the RW photogs are being dicks for no reason. look how close they get. if MPD showed up, they would make the RW crew leave her alone. if only to score brownie points with local news.

  • @anyland - The guy in my video is a fan of the show from the DC area, not a cast member. I live a very short distance from the house and was walking by the house around the time of this incident. Since Lindsey (WUSA) and I work in similar industries we were talking shop prior to her attempts to interview people for the show.

The MTV photographers were doing what they were told by the producers. The law is the law. MTV can film you in public, so it cuts both ways despite MTV's displeasure.

  • GO HOMIE get ur 15 minutes of fame and then sum.. thats my boii..

  • Considering I had nothing to do with WUSA's decision to employ one-man bands I would direct the frustration towards them. I'm not condoning the practice, just stating that I don't see it becoming any less commonplace.

  • shawn: I agree it is better with a full crew... but let's be honest. If you've been in news for 15 years you've seen the technology shift. That said, I agree that the major markets should have a full crew for ENG. I also raised my eyebrows when I first read about the decision on DCRTV. It is what it is. Just be thankful you're not working in radio.

  • Forgive my ignorance, I know squat about journalism and videoing but why the hell was that cameraman doing that? And why wasn't the woman reacting? I'm clearly missing something.

  • RO-BO-TIC CAM-ER-A MAN.....

  • Robotic indeed... I was thinking more along the lines of "Blue Man Group".

  • Shawn, the technique of "one man band" reporting is new within the last year at WUSA. That station is the only one in the market to report this way, and it caused quite a stir in local media circles when the change was announced. Broadcasting as a whole is reacting to changes caused by new technology. How everything shakes out has yet to be seen.

  • Wow. Just wow.

  • I will not be watching the Real World in the future due to this incident. The present value of the damage this man has caused to this brand indicate his elimination from any real anything. I "hope" Obama can create or save a job for this man to rake leaves in the forest.

  • I'm sure he'll get a job somewhere....

  • With you shawnod on why is she shooting her own stuff. But, we all know were the TV news industry has it's priorities. And it's not necessarily in bring us the news.

  • Just like the radio industry isn't about bringing you quality content.

  • Someone should find out the name of the azzhat MTV camera man and put it out there so he can get some feedback on his dickish behavior. The channel 9 reporter showed a lot of patience...I think if it had been a guy reporter he would've kicked the punk's azz....

  • His name is Ryan Romkema, otherwise known as 'The Machine' from his website. Also known better as iDouche.

  • The question them becomes whether the camera man is considered a celebrity or a private citizen. That could get dicey.

  • Denial is a river in Egypt - this is about adapting to changes in the profession. The majority of TV shooters aren't worth half the money they're paid based upon the so called "Professional" quality content I see produced.

  • Had any paid work yet Cliff? Didn't think so. I guess that's why you are so bitter about professionals.

  • LOL - not even worth the time to comment. Pencilgod I'm guessing based upon your profile. Have a great day down under mate :)

  • MTV has exclusive rights on those kids for the duration of filming. There's a "Douche Cameraman" clause on page 249/c sec.4A since MTV isn't actually relevant enough to SUE anyone, infringement results in a "cameraperson employed by MTV/Viacom of arrogant distemper; possibly that kid Chet who almost graduated from SVA but got busted for coke...". It goes on & on. MTV contracts are insane.

  • They are. I reviewed the "waiver" they have folks sign and it is rather extensive. You essentially agree to be publicly humiliated and notified up front that you will most likely suffer irreparable harm to your image.

  • So the real crew's as big a joke as the show...yawn!!! MTV is museum ready...as non useful and cumbersome as the paper yellow pages unless somebody cute dies or goes berserk on cam.

  • Hence, why both of those situations always appear on the show.

  • I agree that the photog was being a DICK. A huge dick. I wonder if he would have done the same thing to a Network TV reporter. A walk through once would have been comical. However, his actions were unprofessional since he knows the reporter was there to do a job.

MTV's production crew may need a subtle reminder that once they're outside the threshold of that Real World house they have entered Real World DC.

The reporter should've maced the guy.

  • or tripped him and let him break his own camera.

  • Many in the industry have suggested that...

  • If Lindsey maced the reporter then she would have been charged with a crime. While obnoxious, the RW camera man did not physically touch her or her equipment... an important point. Earlier reports of cameramen physically shoving pedestrians should be investigated as that is an actual crime, should a police report be filed. The reaction may have been slightly more muted had Lindsey's camera been of equal size... whether she reported for network or an affiliate I don't think played as much a role.

  • So these jerks can come into OUR town and take over? I don't think so. There is no excuse for that crew to act that way. I agree with fd2119, props to Lindsey for being the professional in this situation and continuing her interview despite the MTV asses.

  • The production company feels that way because that's usually what happens. As they continue to be expelled from area bars and restaurants they'll have to get creative in order to continue feeding the cast alcohol in public. I think part of their reaction may be their uncertainty as to how to handle the situation. They'll be gone rather quickly... just a few months.

  • At 2:38...

"As long as you show them that you're friendly, and that you're not here to harm them..."

    Haha sounds like anthropology 101

  • haha... SO true.

  • My question is why did they do this? Was she infringing on something?

  • MTV did this either a) to send a message that they don't like the attention b) to create additional controversy in order to generate a buzz about the show, or c) a combination of both.

  • man that photog was a DICK...i mean a complete DICK

  • I was there the other day and I didn't know they had already started filming.

  • Would he have done the same thing with a guy? All he did here was get in front of a cute female. Let's see if they are tough enough to take on someone their own size. Bet it changes things!

  • I'm sure the outcome would have been the same if it was a male reporter.

  • Kudos to Lindsey for keeping her cool in this situation. A true professional. As for the photographer for The Real World, that was really unprofessional and, in my opinion, uncalled for. I'll rethink my viewing of The Real World, in light of this event.

  • The camera man was only doing what he was instructed to do by the producers. It was highly unprofessional, but this is what happens when they hold the attitude that they're going to "move into the city and take it over". They forgot that they are merely guests, and that we in the District are quite well versed on the law.

  • man the real world camera crew was being OBNOXIOUS.

I live a few blocks away. I'd punch them in the nuts if they get in the way of my daily life.

  • They travel in packs, but if you drive a magic silver boom mic through their heart you get... wait, I'm not sure what a good punch line would be for that. I'm rather close by too... we may run into each other some time.

  • I'll protect you....

and I'd challenge them to a rumble a la West Side Story. I have a mean snap.

  • Hah... drop on by Robby. I'm thinking this would make a great parody video.

  • weird, I was right across the street when this was happening - I wondered why the guy was filming the camera

  • Even as I was filming it I didn't think it was as big of a deal as it appears to have turned out to be.

  • That place is gonna be overrun with people now.

  • I don't think it will be that bad... I expect most of the excitement wil die down in a week or so.

  • I would punch him in the face

  • A few people wanted to, but that would be assault. The camera guy was just doing what he was told to do by the producers.

  • that is messed up!!

  • this guy is frustrating to watch!!! How did nobody just flip out on him!???

  • Because Lindsey, the WUSA reporter, acted professionally even when MTV's production company didn't.

  • LOL! Camera crew friendly?!

  • They must have been European.

  • Um, at least the so-called "bad guys" in this duel are wearing Apple T-shirts (notice the adherence to AP Style Guide protocol -- journalism school RAWKS!).

  • I am so confused here.
