@flupea576 Fuck you. Just, fuck you. Nothing else to be said here. You don't deserve life you dumbass, attention-wanting, desperate little bitch. I hope you burn in hell for that, and just for your information, someone on this Earth permanently hates you until the end of his life.
Gosh, I just noticed it...at 0:24-0:25, the background vocalist DOES sound like he's saying "pumpkins". It happens between the phrases "Shakedown 1979" and "Cool kids never have the time." This musical figure is repeated over and over in the song, and you hear it at 0:16 and other places.
I was in high school in 1979. I guess great music reaches people of all ages! Something about this tune is nostalgic and when I hear it, I'm back in that year. Even though I didn't know the words to this song for a long time, it sure is catchy. I especially enjoy the rhythm licks without instruments at the opening and closing seconds of this song. As another poster said here, this is an awesome "chill song." This song has a kind of haunting quality that reminds me of David Gray's "Babylon."
When I listen to this song,I get extremely depressed with how soothing this is..I don't try to understand the lyrics,I just listen..and that's how I get depressed from it..
This song makes me so sad. This day has been the worst in my life. My best freind Ryan backstabbed me and stole my girlfreind, Delany........................................................
Why Ryan, why, you filthy backstabbing son of a bitch.
I remember a while ago I almost got to see a pumpkins show, it was the last tour before the breakup and they played a concert near where I lived, I was only 14 and they played at a place where you needed to be 16 to get in. lol I was so sad they wouldnt let in...
@1nsaneInThaMembrane I don't have much free time nowadays, but if I can manage some time to do it, I'll do it. I'm not promising anything though, so don't hold your breath on it...
This song is so nostalgic it somehow reminds me of old times that are forever gone but remain in sweet memory for eternity in our hearts of young. I don't have much of those epiphanic young moments but the song still forces what little sentimentality I have out of me and forces me to think and to reminisce about those good old days.
This song is awsome, I only knew some of the words but its perfect for a long road trip, a nice cruising song and when the radio didnt come in in places I had this song in my head for hours. I love it.
I hate how all the good music like this isnt popular and all of these people out there like Katy Perry. I mean what the hells with that. Katy Perry has no talent and lip sincs all her songs. Bands like this dont. Well at least people like us still stay with our music. GOD BLESS OUR "GOOD" MUSIC!
i wish i had really LIVED back in the nineties, i was born '96, and am sad because I missed when everything was old school, with cassettes and the way everything was done. I am sad. Smashing pumpkins is a refuge I have found that can help me get into the retro frame of mind.
What is truly amazing about this song is that you can laterally sing any lyrics to the beat and you automatically have instant awesomeness... Does anyone know if the songs repeats softly the word "pumpkins" in between the breaks? I keep hearing pumpkins - but some say it is an instrument that makes the strange noise. It starts out saying - pummmmkinnnnss???
@secretAngel2012 The song features a sample of Corgan's voice repeated throughout. During recording, Corgan was singing "ooh" as the melody line, so he and Flood decided to record him singing to a tape. The pair electronically manipulated several samples and looped them against a drumbeat.
@TreverUndeadXpdX I love Tool. Both of these writers are geniuses but Maynard is a lyrical Einstein. The whole album Lateralus is poetry, but I came here to listen to Smashing Pumpkins and they rock!
@uberspeed0910 i know Maynerd and Billy are both my favorite writers they are geniuses, like in "today" that song was written in the worst time of Billy's life and he says "today is the greatest" 'cause he thought it was funny lol he's awsome like that
