Gosh, I just noticed it...at 0:24-0:25, the background vocalist DOES sound like he's saying "pumpkins". It happens between the phrases "Shakedown 1979" and "Cool kids never have the time." This musical figure is repeated over and over in the song, and you hear it at 0:16 and other places.

I was in high school in 1979. I guess great music reaches people of all ages! Something about this tune is nostalgic and when I hear it, I'm back in that year. Even though I didn't know the words to this song for a long time, it sure is catchy. I especially enjoy the rhythm licks without instruments at the opening and closing seconds of this song. As another poster said here, this is an awesome "chill song." This song has a kind of haunting quality that reminds me of David Gray's "Babylon."

What is truly amazing about this song is that you can laterally sing any lyrics to the beat and you automatically have instant awesomeness... Seriously, just start saying everything and every passing thought in the rhythm and emphasis patterns of this song for a day (that's what I did!)... I lost some friends and annoyed a lot of people, but I did single-handedly get this video like 100 more views... I would also recommend wearing a metal skirt while doing this, if one is readily available! : )
