He has obviously heard from some where that stars out the outer edge of the galaxy are moving faster (vector velocity) than the ones at the centre, which is true, however the angular velocity of stars near the centre of the galaxy is hundreds of times if not thousands of times faster than those at the edge, which is precisely the correct model for a vortex. Galactic rotation *isn't* like planetary rotation because of mass distribution. A dispersed mass will not act, gravitationally, on any member of that mass the same way a concentrated central mass will act on an orbiting body. This is similar to misunderstanding the gravitational pull at the exact center of a planetary mass.

They've also discovered that the space between quarks are filled with energy, and much of that energy contributes a lot of mass. They've also discovered that in a perfect vacuum, particles happen to zoom in and out of existence. According to neph, it's unscientific to suppose that the universe has laws that are observable, and that what we observe on earth might happen elsewhere in the universe.

Neph seems to be conflating angular velocity with vectoral velocity. He has obviously heard from some where that stars out the outer edge of the galaxy are moving faster (vector velocity) than the ones at the centre, which is true, however the angular velocity of stars near the centre of the galaxy is hundreds of times if not thousands of times faster than those at the edge, which is precisely the correct model for a vortex. Doh! fail!!!

Neph you idiot. The difference between a liquid and a galaxy is that in a liquid, all the particles are in contact with one another. In galaxies, stars are floating through empty space connected only by gravity. Of course it would behave differently.
Also, in your sink, everything is moving towards the center and will touch the middle. In orbit, things are not going closer to the center. Different shit.

Its not gravity making the galaxys spin as there is no matter in the center of a galaxy, therefore some other force is causing it (could be electromagnetic or chemical?). Also who knows what lies beyond the universe, what ever it is could have an effect as well (even if it is nothingness).

Galactic rotation is due to the initial angular momentum of the clumps of matter that eventually condensed into galaxies. According to physics, that momentum must remain constant as the galaxy condenses under gravitational attraction, and thus its angular velocity must increase as gravity pulls matter into a smaller volume.

There is lots of gravity in the center of galaxies. All spiral galaxies have a super massive black hole in their center. In addition the stars form what is known as a bulge, a large dense cloud of stars near the black hole which adds to the pull we "feel" our here in the suburbs..

Wait, wait, wait. He is equating galactic rotation with planetary rotation? Even amateur astronomers know better than that. Even boggles my mind that so few get it. Galactic rotation *isn't* like planetary rotation because of mass distribution. A dispersed mass will not act, gravitationally, on any member of that mass the same way a concentrated central mass will act on an orbiting body. This is similar to misunderstanding the gravitational pull at the exact center of a planetary mass.
