@DesperateTry Call it what you will, but Mozart, and this composition in particular, exemplify what the true essence of music is. THIS is music--anything less than this does not deserve to be called music at all.
@Aesthetica94 I get made fun of by some people when I say that I like classical music. When this happens, I usually direct them to Mozart's 25th, 29th, 34th, or 41st symphonies. If they actually take me up on the challenge, they almost always apologize later on.
@th3b3st1888 I know he used imitative counterpoint for the parts with only tenor and bass (doubling them with the bassoons and trombones), the ostinato in the string section (still during the tenor/bass sections) creating the burning fire of hell. The violin in the soprano/alto parts represent the almost childish simplicity of heaven. As for techniques themselves, I am not sure.
@th3b3st1888 well, most universities and colleges that have a program of music offer a profile in composition. depending on where you live I could probably give you some places that are near your dwelling. but of course, you can think about Julliard and Berklee in the first place
@mcgarig1 yes exactly, of course he knew well enough all the techniques that existed in composition, he didn't need to think about them like we mortals have to
Confutatis maledictis, flammis acribus addictis ... (rejected doomed, delivered to the painful flames ...)
How utterly criminal of the antichristian catholic or protestant churches to imprint this in people's minds. Religions should be abolished since against human rights.
Fantastic music, but a horrible pack of lies with horrible consequences through the ages. Know that even the worst wrongdoers are lovingly received in the afterlife.
@bongomingi "Know that even the worst wrongdoers are lovingly received in the afterlife." where did you learn that? so i'm guessing cosmic justice is not possible? pls enlighten me, i really am interested in hearing your view on this
@Tiscali1981 WHY? I ONLY SAID THAT THE COMENT ABOUT THE ABSOLUTION WAS RIGHT, NOBODY CAN NOT LIKE MOZART, AND @HLA5560650 JUST QUOTE SALIERI IN THE MOVIE "I ABSOLVE YOU"
The eternal problem when english try to pronunce the latin " T ".... WHY must they ruin the piece...!!!!... is it written " confu -cha-chis " instead of "confu-ta-tis"...???
@gorillaz1690 Well we'll just have to do something about it then. Though I'm probably of the generation you speak, my mom is a music teacher. I don't think I can go without "music like this" as you put it. XD I know a big contributor to passing on passionate classical music to future generations these days is movies or even video games. For instance, Lord of the Rings (/watch?v=05XBQv0dUkA) or Dragon Age (/watch?v=oWFEVbfCcOY) have embedded their themes even into the non-musical of my kin.
I have heard this music since before I was ever born. And ever SINCE! I have heard this version, I just came from a concert at the Eglise Madelaine in Paris with the 'traditional version'. It doesn't matter - it is STILL both so dark, so sad, so joyous and so heavenly at them same time. I stared at the frescos, not the choral or quartet, and..... I understood. This music makes you WANT to die and be lifted up to heaven... And yes, believe me, HE wrote it.
@gsusluvr321 i think it's faster than it is on the cd, i happened to download the cd with the mass and i found it painfully slow but this is what one would describe as "just right". but ultimately i prefer Gardiners approach..
@Dodo251 specifically the first Quantus tremor est futurus, it transforms the threatening tone of the first stanza into something that actually sounds very very hopeful...
does anyone know the title of the last mozart piece that is playing in amadeus when salieri is reading the samples of mozart's work that mozart's wife brought to him? its the piece thats playing with a woman singing while salieri drops the compositions on the floor because he is overwhelmed by the beauty of the music
St. Martin in-the-Fields versions of Mozarts Requiem is absolutely my favouirite interpretation. They have that perfect emotion and tempo in every piece.
this is perhaps one of the better recordings of the confutatis. A lot of the interpretations seem to be slower, not giving the true feel of hellfire and devils singing and without the gentleness of the soprano voices singing from above
@WobblingIndian I think BeyondWritenWords is referring to the movie Amadeus, in which that is said about a piece of Mozart. I don't think he meant that the Confutatis has got too many notes though, who could ever say that about such a masterpiece? :)
@XxfireblastxX yes. I remember now, I think the guy that does the stuff? lol. said that it has too many notes. I think he was talking about the magic flute.
Sólo un genio de la talla de Mozart, consigue emocionar de esta manera; componer este "Confutatis" en un estado febril, moribundo...Grandísimo Mozart!!

Bach composed a piece with a 6-subject fugue waaaaaay before Mozart composed his 5-subject one.

Something tells me you're bitter that Bach never got a death scene from Milos Forman as conducted by Sir Marriner.
But hey, you want to argue the distinction between 6-subject and 5-subject fugues.

No bitterness, I'm just saying that a fugue with at least 5-subjects in it had already been composed before Mozart's time.
