bipolar 2 is referred to as mild bipolar because people don't usually go off and fuck up their lives while hypomanic. hypomanics can usually still function. when someone's manic they can wreak all sorts of havoc in their lives and hallucinate. the mild nickname is NOT in reference to severity of depression. it's in reference to the mania. hypo means under/beneath. hence. hypomania = beneath mania. a low grade form of hyperactivity seems to be a poor definition of hypomania

Am I bipolar then, I've read in my mums nurse psychology book and as far as I've noticed about myself I have a rapid cycling pattern with deep depression mostly. I've been fine for about some hours now and I got back to start a few days ago after being happy for 2 weeks. Can some1 help me? Afraid and hate humanity

@storegutt13 probably. if you get put on meds I'd recommend abilify. It's damn expensive though. if you live outside of america tho it will be cheaper. my mood swings sound like yours. I've been on a lot of SSRI's and an SNRI but they didn't improve my mood. Abilify worked wonders tho. It works fast too. it's not perfect but, it's something. good luck.

What a load of cack. I sent over 20yrs with sypmtons worse than described before i was recently diagnosed as BP2 (aged 44). There is no mention of the mixed episodes which personally i found to be the most distressing and confusing . Cyclothimia is the mild version of bp. This is what it sounds like this lady is describing.

Bipolar 2 is real. The manic episodes are different, but depression is severe. We can look up symptoms for both and compare all day long, but what many fail to realize is that it manifests itself in each of us differently. I actually was in the hospital numerous times, but for depression episodes. It's not productive to bad talk a mental illness. These are just names. No one should be in competition. We all need help and each of us for different reasons even if we share Bipolar 1 or 2.

Though anger and irritability are sometimes part of bp (1or2) I still think there is an aspect of will involved. As an outside observer, I think you owe jamiebird an apology - as well as perhaps to many others in your life. And doing so may be very healing for you - we are spiritual beings and not just biochemical machines. By the way, your information is off. The only milder thing about Bipolar II compared to Bipolar I is the hypomania rather than mania. The depression is still the same. Actually, more often than not, it's lengthier.

And ride our illness' coat tails as a form of justification for your ego is making you ill. figure out the difference in whom you are & that which you wish to be. Bipolar 2 suffers have less than a quater of the amount of episodes and mood swings, aggression, sexual relationships, gamblinging, risk behaviour, sleeping and eating habbits, never get hospitalized, and dont rapid cycle. From a bipolar 1 suffer, who's on mood stabizers, anti psychotics, b12 injections, psychiatrists, cognitive therapists, dietitions. It looks like whats wrong with you harden the fuck up and stop milking on our illness
