  • nauseating songa

  • Black ... you are a truly special person.

  • Pretentious.

  • Quick question ... what exactly is Martha's "Katonah Collection?"

  • it's furniture and some other stuff. by the way, i'm happy to report, this dispute has been settled!

    cheers,

    marc

  • Sorry, I'm late. I found my way to this you tube from your website which I found my way to from the thinkla website, inviting me to attend the event at UCLA. Whew! Would love to come, but not sure yet. But you may be my most recent great discovery -- right after Adam Pascal (discovered in mid August)!

  • Hey I recognize that sculpture!

Its "Chief Katonah" by Ron Mineo, a very gifted sculptor and teacher. I think its usually on display at the Katonah Library.Search Google for Art Life Studios Inc. to see more about Ron.

  • Advanced Placement Band - Katonah <----------------Search It

  • "The Katonah" by Advanced Placement Band = SMARTCHOICE. Hilarious. Glad I searched it.

  • HA! Thanks Giancola44 for the tip, "The Katonah" is amazing. Too funny. A MUST SEE if you like this song or care about Katonah/Martha

  • This is funny-- but I heard about "The Katonah" by Advanced Placement Band on the radio this morning and their song is on YouTube-- and it's HILARIOUS. OMFG. Search "the katonah" or something.

  • You sure are a very hateful person.

  • Video is terrible as is the message. How come you dont see all the folks in "Philadelphia" moaning about the cream cheese name being 'stolen'? The list is long, and if ANYONE out there reads about this trademark, the word Katonah is not being trade marked, its "Katonah Collection'.

  • To Stans27. The times have changed where the legal ramifications of trademaking a name of a village or the combination trademark "Katonah Collection" may have consequence at anytime in the future. She could have licensed the name from the town with specific stipulations insead of trying to own it. Let's say that she sells the company and all of a sudden we see "The Katonah Connection" pornograghic channel and sex toys presented by the 'new" owners of the trademark.

  • she should use the name"alderson best" that suits her best

  • make a studio recording of this tune and put it out!

  • Advanced Placement Band has a really funny song about this "Martha" situation. Google the song: "The Katonah"

    It's hilarious.

  • Advanced Placement Band is on iTunes as well... Go buy they're album they're hilarious and they come from Katonah so support them!

  • ps, it's good to see some Americans are still paying attention to what's REALLY important, dumping on those who take a stand, right or wrong. I am a YANKIWI so I have earned my right to diss Marc wanna bees. The dude has talent, the dude is DOING something. By the way, without hippies all you Martha wanna bees would still be stuck in NAM! Now your in IRAQ. Hippies RULE! Go Marc. okay Marc, now write about CHENEY and really piss the guys off.

  • hey Marc down here in New Zealand we love you, I play you on my community radio show. when i lived in NYC I edited a very funny commercial with Martha, before she did Paris time. She is actually very good at taking the piss herself. A real stroke of genius, keep up the good work and sour grapes to all who are didding you and the song.

  • obviously your'e still getting high marc black. If you want martha to be a "part of the community" in the simplest terms dont make a song about her. Makes you look like an asshole.

  • martha sucks and deserves alot more ,more ,more. like to see the fukin skank go broke or marry MJ

  • K-TOWN RULZ

  • Marc Black has absolutely NO talent

  • Marc Black is a cherished national asset.

  • I don't live too far from Katonah, maybe 30 minutes or so, and I don't see why people are so pissed. Although this guy's a hippie, and hippies get pissed over everything.

  • People are not so pissed. It's just that if you wanted to open a store and call it Katonah whatever,it's most likely that MSLO (Martha's company) will have the trademark for it.

  • cont. The list goes on and on. Katonah Mirrors, Katonah Pillows, Katonah Chair Pads, Katonah Window Blinds, Katonah Window Shades, Katonah Curtain Rods, Katonah Curtain Rings, Katonah Decorative Curtain Hardware (finials), and Katonah Closet Organizer Kits including Katonah Shelves, Katonah Shoe & Katonah Belt Racks, Katonah Furniture, Katonah Paint, Katonah Linen, ect. It's not one product, it's a lot of products!

  • Another has been trying to make a comeback, not with this one. A good bar song is all it is for the people that had a few at happy hour.

  • It cracks me up how the folkies haven't changed sincce the early 60s - using phrases like "talking jive" without irony. They're probably still made at Dylan for going electric. Anyway, I live in Katonah too - I think they're mad at Martha because she's trying to copyright the name. Too bad no one else thought of it first.

  • Damn, at least learn how to sing. One star.

  • Hey, Marc: strangely reminiscent of great sounds you made in Chanango Valley in 1970 or I'm just being nostalgic today!

  • It's got some guilt, but it's mainly a hippie anti-materialist communitarian song - not bad - not that weak - I like it - thought it would be cardboard, but it's neo-organic.

  • I have never heard of Katonah, NY until today. I googled the name and found the towns website, which to me looks like an "All American" small town. This is the style Marth Stewart portrays. I come from a small town in MA which has the same appeal. America has a history of products trademarked after town/city names. It's time to get over the "You can't own us" bit. Be proud of where you are from Katonah! Alot of American towns where named after American Indians. This is our history!

  • Apparently Stewart wants to copyright the word "Katonah" for a line of goods, so if anyone in the town wants to open a business with that word in the title, they'll have to clear it with her people first...

  • Since I am from Katonah...I know that I hate walking down the street and seeing Martha with her attitude...she has no right to take the name and put it to use for her business. It's just silly...I'm sure she can find another name for her new furniture line!

  • You are hilarious...i have rarely seen her. Something tells me that u may not be making things up but that it might be in your head...

  • What?????

Take a breather and have a giggle over this. It is not life and death.

  • katonah bar and grill?

  • Is it K mart or Katonah martha ?

I'm from Long Island you can keep her there !

We never want it her here !

  • Besides, what happens when Martha's company is sold and someone uses the name Katonah for something other than what it was intended for?

  • Im from Connecticut, and not far from Katonah. Most of you people have absolutely NO concept of what it is like to be from a small town. You have to remember that in a town like Katonah, there are no corporations like Kmart to shop at. Everything is based on small independent businesses, many of which already use the name Katonah. If she takes the name, it's a real kick in the ass to the small business owners.

  • If you don't try to get famous from this song and make a career out of this situation then I will believe this is a heartfelt song. But from the looks of this, it seems that Marc Black is simply trying to boost is Singer/Songwriter career from the situation. Which is not too far off from Martha Stewart using the name of the town she lives in for a furniture line name.

  • I know Marc Black personally. Your comment is 180 degrees from reality. Marc has done this for the benefit of the community and NOT for the benefit of himmself. I can assure you of that.

  • Nobody made any accusations. I was merely saying that if his intentions were for "x" then the situation would be like "x". Don't take it personally please.

  • You can't be 180 degrees from something that encompasses 360 of your and my world....Reality is all around us...

  • What's the difference between Katonah Furniture and the New York Yankees? Both are the names of privately owned businesses.

  • The Yankees are one product. MSLO wants to trademark just about everything...furniture, paint, hardware, towels, pot holders, furniture, mirrors, pillows, Chair Pads, Window Blinds, Window Shades, Curtain Rods, Curtain Rings, Decorative Curtain Hardware (finials), and Closet Organizer Kits including Shelves, Shoe and Belt Racks and on and on and on It's too much.

  • You mean "Katonah Chair Pads?" Even if her company sells all those things under the Katonah name that doesn't mean she owns the name before each item.

  • I don't like Martha anway..... But why she she be allowed to trademark the name of a whole town? And let's not forget she IS a convicted felon.

  • Other businesses in Katonah already use the name.If the Martha Stewart's company is ever sold then who knows how the name could be used? It could be used to sell or promote products that do not reflect the values of the village. The new owners could demand fees from older established businesses or insist they stop using the name Katonah. The name could easily be licensed to Martha Stewart.Your generalization regarding the residents of Katonah as being "richer than rich"is incorrect.

  • How many people would know that Katonah is the town where Martha lives? Did you know that before you heard this story? I didn't.

  • the average home price in Katonah is almost a million bucks. i think they can afford to get over it. they act like they have some sort of special entitlement. it's the name of a town, and many other towns/cities have been trademarked to sell products. Philadelphia Cream Cheese anyone? Charleston Chew? Minnetonka? Duluth Packs? Good lord- they're richer than rich and think they should protest something.

  • Dreadfully unprofessional (even folks singers ought to rehearse lighting!) but heartfelt. LONG, but I get it. Perhaps it can be written to a faster beat, or just re-record the video. It's a good thing.

Viva la hippies! Viva la Martha!

    Frederic Kahler

  • This is a "snapshot" of the evening. We had 4 acts and multiple speakers. We did NOT intend to video the event.

We just quickly grabed a camera found a tape and filmed it. Spur of the moment.

Not at all planned as a video production.

  • We had a lovely Seattle cafe, COFFEE MESSIAH & it was hard to film at open mics til we checked lighting & sound for the talent. It became automatic. Always assume you're going to film something: it's a good thing. Try to re-shoot the blotched video. Part of the song's impact were the large icons of the Chief & Martha, but we barely see the Martha one (I assume she's wielding a rolling pin instead). Good job anyway.

    - Frederic Kahler, creator of the Yahoo "marthamarthamartha" group

  • When we do plan on filming (which we usually do) it works out great.

However we did not intend on filming this.

It was 'quick, grab the camera" deal.

The person holding the Martha sign stepped out in front of the lights. So obviously you could not see that sign. Oh well.

Totally impromptu but good for a giggle. The key element was that there were no personal attacks on Martha herself-just the issues addressed.

  • why should MARTHA be able to make profits on this??

    rich bitch with attitiude???

  • Obviously you don't know what it means to be from a small town. Review you John Cougar-Melloncamp. This is not only about a name.

  • This is what people are worrying about? Other news doesnt seem to reach Katonah does it? People need to stop fussing over pointless things. The truth is that people dont want the "Katonah" name branded in K-Mart. Would you be happier with Restoration hardware or pottery barn. Get over it. Bad song.

  • "Pointless" how about me trademarking Nixo718 except you get no claim to it..."pointless" how about just not having any respect for the integrity of people...

  • Get out of the Katonah bubble and realize that there are more important things to worry about than a furniture line. Stop making a big deal about it and embarrasing yourself. Were you as bent over this "matter" as you were about Paris Hilton and her jail time. You treat this like its the biggest thing since the great depression....talk about "the integrity of people."

  • I agree with this to an extent. People thing it will hurt the businesses in Katonah but something tells me it will make them more popular. And if you guys are worried about tourists, we already get them from the city all the time but i don't see you guys protesting the "Harlem Line". Yes there is a bit of a difference so don't go wasting ur time correcting me on that and spend more time trying to understand the similarities.

  • Just say NO to Martha trying to trademark this name!

  • all belong to everyone,

kick back and let it shine

  • VERY FUNNY AND RIGHT ON TARGET!!!!!!
