  • ENELOOPs KICK ASS, I use them in my Pro Camera Flash (Nikon SB900) and they'lI last for several shoots. can't fault them

  • Way to go! Try BatteryJunctiondotcom online. They really have great deals on batteries.

  • Just got mine in. There great. Thanks for the heads up.

  • great vid,oil lamps as a last resort,so all your egg arn't in one basket.......

  • I like your videos, always very informative. I don't have all of the equipment that you have so I stay open minded on everything that I can use to make it. Keep up the great work.

  • @45calvet That is what this is all about for me. I am merely showing what I am doing and how. Not just talking in my basement on a couch. But I want to show what I have done and that it works. If that prompts someone to think about possibilities in their world, great.

  • love the nh mh batteries and adapters been using them for a while and there still going strong , do you use any of the dc chargers ? I have a couple for the aa and aaa but im looking for a good aaa - 9volt unit that vill charge off 12 volt , any sugestions? ...keep up the good work

  • @DaytonaRoadster Well, I would love to argue that point with you, but I am not the one hanging out on your channel looking for info. But there is a very way to fix this problem for both of us, so we can get back to more important thing. I will fix it.

  • Great Vid, Thanks for sharing

  • i think im going to get some know

  • Will an EMP attack cause a problem with batteries?? Just wondering. Also do you know if they need to be kept in an area with a shield????

  • @akaalbany Batteries are pretty safe.

  • yankee.. love the videos... one question that i have not heard you talk about..little thing..the flashlight that is below your power box...where did you get it and what did it cost...

  • what kind of guns where those next to your batteries. i think one was a m1 grand

  • @sirjacobthe8 I don't know, I can't possibly keep track of all the guns laying around here.

  • @Yankeeprepper Good reply!

  • I have found these solar powered chargers for AA batteries Im consider purchasing. Small and compact and recharge 4 batteries with sun energy. I think that is a useful tool for free energy charging of AA batteries.

  • @Origin305 The mini crank dynamos don't last long with continuous use.

  • @Origin305 "cranking stuff" doesn't last long term, that kind of stuff is for the "weekend camper:

  • Great information.

Yankeeprepper, where did you get that lantern looking flashlight?

  • so what are you prepping for? tribulation?

  • I am prepping for what is obviously coming.

  • Great Video. I have been looking for C and D rechargables. Got plenty of AA & AAA, Add it to the list.

  • Great video

  • Are you planning to become self-sufficient on food too? Or just electricity?

    love the vids!

    thanks!

  • Hey Prepper:

    I love your vids -- hey, I'm a subscriber.

But a doubt just crossed my mind:

Any chance SHTF is one of those self-fulfilling prophecies???

Any chance we feed that outcome?

  • Hi, new subscriber to your channel. Nice vid! One thing that I'd like to suggest is that while the C and D cell spacers for AAs are good in a pinch, in my experience they are not an ideal substitute for a real C or D cell. They simply don't last as long. They do have the benefit of being rechargable, but I find my recharger gets enough use already. JMO.

    Again, good vid. Thanks.

  • thanks for an informative video

  • I don't know of a single brand or product out there featuring a crank mini dynamo that is made to last or built to take continuous use. And the internal rechargable batteries in many of the units are not replaceable. Not without a soldering iron anyway.

In most cases they are a short term use weekend camping item. I have a few myself, but i would not feature them on my channel as a SHTF item.

  • @Yankeeprepper

dude can u explain how yout house will be powered? I see you got shelves of big batteries but how does that work? Dont they also run out eventually?

  • @Origin305 diesel generator, solar, wind

  • I bought my eneloop batteries maybe two years ago. They're really awesome. But I have not seen those cartridges yet. Cool thing!

  • I would not rely on crank radios and flashlights as a go to item for the SHTF.

Weekend camping trips yes. SHTF no.

  • I picked up a $25 solar battery charger. Have yet to try it, I think I need to do that to make sure it even works.

Those little LED lamps work great in a pinch. Good ideas, thanks!

  • thanks. great info and something for me to get on asap.

  • Excellent tip...As always you are the man...

  • Thanks for the great tips brother. Nice set up you have.

  • For those folks without a battery backup system in the house, you can find a solar battery charger that will recharge AA, AAA, C, & D batteries for about $30 or less. That is a very cheap way to insure that you can use flashlights, a radio, etc. in a SHTF situation.

  • You: MAN :0) Thank you for this. I have oil lamps . Going to get Eneloop today :0)

  • If I were your adversary, the first thing I'd do is put a 308 bullet right through your solar panel. That's what I worry about in a worst case scenario.

  • I personally do not see it playing out like that. The "adversary" would probably put the bullet in you, and take the panels.

But again, I doubt it will come to gun fights around your house unless it gets real bad.

  • Great job and very timely as I am currently looking to buy batteries. I have a tactical flashlight which takes 123A batteries. Looking to buy in bulk. Any suggestions? What is good price? What is good brands? What brands to avoid? Rechargeable when grid goes down? Or combination of rechargeable and nonrechargeable.??? Thanks again.

  • Theres plenty of choices out there and things are getting better, research your purchases. That's what I do.

  • I think the reply you are looking for YP is "google it"

  • I am looking into solar recharge now. Just good to think outside my luddite-instinct box :0) TY YP

  • Great vid very important stuff. Thanks for another 5*

  • 5 stars. Excellent info. Thanks

  • Nice vid ppl need to cover this issue.

  • Romantic SHTF situation lol

  • Romantic SHTF situation lol

  • Great video and very informative! Favorited and certainly hope that others give it a look!

  • Romantic SHTF=D. I hear they are using the Sanyo loop batteries in electric bikes .

  • Great video. Informative and well done.

  • Great info.

  • I saw you had a couple LED socket bulbs on the table. What were the prices and where did you find them. I have started to search, seem pretty high priced yet. Thanks

  • Sam's c;ub is starting to carry them, not very bright but might come in handy if you are trying to conserve electricity and running on batteries. Forgot to show them, thanks fro asking.

  • ★★★★★

  • "Romantic SHTF", haha! How do the rechargeables hold up in the cold? Better than the standard but not better than the Ultimate Lithium?

    Great Video, as always!

  • you've answered multiple questions I've been pondering re: off grid power. many thanks for the demo!

  • it's all about INFO, BRO!

  • Hybrid batteries are the best. I have 40 Duracell Precharged which is a hybrid. Hybrids hold and maintain the charge like a normal battery. Rechargeable don't hold the charge as long.

  • I haven't noticed a difference in the two. but Iam not really looking. GOOD TIP.

  • @Yankeeprepper I have the duracell rechargeables and they wont hold a charge very long but anyway hey, Can you do a video on your solar set up for your home. My dream is to own a home that is totally green on 500 acres in like Kansas or somewhere like that. I have lived in Chicago all my life and I am so sick of the traffic and most of all the horrible weather.

  • wow! I like the durcell better than the the new rayovac adn pannasonice and they are 4 years old!

Watch my making your own electricity videos. The whole set up is there. you will have to wait till the spring to see the solar.

  • Hey. I lived in Chicago for almost 10years in my 20's. North side up by the University and then Wrigleyville and then to Pulaski And Touhy.

i love Chicago for big cities. good eating!

    Fun town.

  • I am gonna take your word on that and start buying those.

  • Great video again Yankee, stuffed full of prime info all the way through.

I still like lanterns and all, but I have my electronics and tons of rechargeables, though it looks like I've just seen some more stuff I NEED! Great tech fix!

  • What kind of tactical flashlight do you have?

  • Before I got smart, I spent a stupid amount of money on one Surefire and one Pelican. But now, I shop the sportsmans guide. I can't believe the power of some of the lights and so cheap. The high lumen lights are really coming down.

  • that was excellent........not many folks can go back 200 years and live happy.....

  • Watch my videos. I have a "serious Charger"

  • I have the parafin lamps too. They're really crappy and dangerous to use just like candles which I also have many many of. but I wouldn't use any of them until I had to .Like you I have loads of solar powered, wind up and dynamo powered torches and lanterns. I have lots of solar panels so I can use that to charge them. I also have a load of 12v lights which are pretty good.

  • love the videos brother.. instead of making survival a hard task I love the common sense and how easy survival can be based on the technology we have right here..

  • awesome video..

  • I didn't have good luck with the Duracell, but I have heard great things about lithium rechargeable batteries and I really appreciate the eneloop review as that is exactly what i have been looking for! I too have stocked up on candles and oil lamps but I also am planning for electronics and that plain includes a solution for limited means of electrical power as well. thanks for the great video. I want to be able to do the 1800s but put that off as long as possible.

  • Amazing how by going fully self sustained is saving you money and giving you a far better perspective of the world around you, and those Green perma-culture hippy freaks were always full of it , or were they?

    Great tips Yankee

by the way DO NOT look into hydrogen on demand (electralasys of water for hydrogen and oxygen to burn in internal combustion engines or even cook with etc,.) or you will be way too self-sufficiant that everyone will think your nuts

  • I'm assuming you use Lithium batteries? I hear they are the best.

  • Didn't you see them in the video? Have you been drinking again!?

  • I actually just got that part...taking me longer to sober up that usual, lol.

    I'm such a noob.

  • BTW great solar system....

  • Romantic SHTF scenario ...LOL

  • You know...you might want to bring some Fema camp cheese and crackers home for the wife and light your oil lamp for the UN sanctioned allowed amount of time and have a little romance.

  • LOL...I only hope my FEMA trailer has Air Conditioning....lol

  • LMAO!

  • If not I'll figure out how to install it myself....That's what I Do....

But to be honest I have oil lamps in my cabin and they do they job quite well. But yes you are right no directional light. But a one gallon can of oil last my oil lamps for a month and I have 50 gallons stored...

  • Nice stash. Menards was selling kero 11 bucks for 2 1/2 gallons here on sale. and I stocked and bought 6 jugs. I use kero in heaters for the garage.

  • I still use a Kero stove in my cabin it's the best bang for the buck.....A few ounces and a few pumps and dinner is on...Rather I'm frying steaks or a pot of Chili....Best fuel source for cooking. Compared to heating up the cabin in summer with my wood stove...My kids and I sit on the porch and deep fry chicken nuggets while watching the sun set with the Kerosene stove

  • that is a great seen described. Need more neighbors like you.

  • I can't wait for my husband to see this! He is gonna want to order this right away. Great stuff. I hate buying batteries that peter out quick. This is really good info. Thanks again Yankee!

  • One thing that I really like about how you prep is that you don't settle for one solution. In that video, you showed us oil lamps, normal batteries, and different types of rechargeable batteries - and its a good thing to prep with all of them. Redundancy is key - if one method fails you have other methods to fall back on.

  • Great video, One thing you could include that I have done is to add a small to medium trickle charger and small inverter (like the Sunforce roll up unit) and you would be able to charge the batteries on the go including being able to run some small elec. devices.

  • Sharing this with my husband. :) Great info and I totally agree, I don't want to live like it's the 1800s. We love our electronics. lol

  • Thanks for the information. looking into them Eneloop. Your right, if you are not saving money you are not doing it right.

I use Energizer AA (2450mAh) AAA (1000mAh) size batteries. Also got some cheap ones from Lidl with the same mAh too. I use a 12 hour charger, it was the cheapest Energizer did. Just have to make sure you have charged spares. 15 mins would be better.

Your off grid system sounds amazing, adding that to your gen and batts is very impressive. I hope you make vids about it.

  • Anyhow..

In my 3rd freezer in the basement I have it full of battery's and they work perfect frozen. Am I missing something? I have been doing this for decades with no problems.

  • The cold is really hard on regular batteries. It's not that they won't work, they don't work as good or for as long. The more sensitive the equipment, like GPS's, IR detectors and digital cameras the more you will notice.

  • ★★★★★

  • Great video.

  • I switched to rechargeable batteries about 2 years ago and found a solar panel that will charge 2 AA batteries and is small and light enough to carry in a back pack for camping. Will also charge a cell phone but when the grid goes down that will not be a priority.

  • Excuse me God.

You forgot about the LINK to the battery's.

  • I just wanted to see if you were still listening.

  • Great video. Do you know where your friend got the eneloop system? The 12v solar panel system is great for battery recharging - I have a similar set-up.

  • He bought the set at Costco, but I did attach the link to Eneloop which gives several places to purchase.

    Thanks buddy!

  • i have LED LENSER lights, coupled with good batterys they are awsome

  • Comment removed

  • I use homemade alcohol burners. I have a video on one...uploading part 2 tonight. As far as rechargeables go I really like the Kodak brand. They really work good. LED's are best for longevity and power usage. You sure got a fortune in battery banks. I'm gonna look into eneloop. I've also been looking at solar generators...nice! Yet another great video for preppers. 5 stars!

  • Looked at those batteries the other day, but alas, I did not purchase.

    Woe is me!

  • Good video Yankeeprepper. Keep them coming

  • another awesome video

  • Hooah! first one to view!
