The title was .."BURL IVES' FOLK SONGS AND STORIES"

Side 2 : Froggie Went A-Courting , The Sailor and The Crocodile

Narrated and sung by Burl Ives / Stories by Barbara Hazen

  • Still, I enjoyed hearing the song again after so may years. Thanks!

  • In 1958, we had the album this song first appeared on, "Burl Ives Sings Songs for All Ages." The lyrics were printed on the back cover. The word CREAMY should be CRANEY.

In addition, in the book Bearing Witness- Memories of Arkansas Slavery, former slave Dinah Perry (78 yrs old in 1930) described a song from a game she played as a child. The verse went :

    Chick-a-ma Chick-a-ma Craney Crow

Went to the well to wash my toe

When I come back chicken was gone.

What time is it old witch?

  • When I was a child (of the 60's), I had Burl Ives' "Lollipop Tree" in my collection of LP's. This was the second selection on side 1. I loved all of the songs on this album and believe that I wore the grooves out as I got older!

  • I came here from Death Metal xD wow! I still♥BurlIves♥

  • I've been looking for this for awhile! My Mom used to sing this to me when I was little and I've always loved it!

  • I've had this song stuck in my head for 40 years!!!! I'm glad to have found here.

  • i had that album 2; it is one of my fave childhood songs

  • I have the original "6-eye" red label Columbia Lp (with all the colorful toys on the album cover) and I always looked forward to this song playing at the end of side one. I think many of the songs on this album have made it to CD reissues but I don't know if "Old Witch Old Witch" was one of them. Thanks for posting!

  • I do remember this song!

  • I loved this song when I was a little boy in the early 1950's. This is the first time I've heard it in many, many years. Burl Ives had a wonderful voice.
