if one was to join now would they be sent for ceremonial parading etc straight away after training or would they be sent to war straight after training?
just to put the record straight, when i was in the h-cav i had to do ceromonial, its part of your job weather your armoured or not. you rotate the guys on the horses also would like to do the tanks so you have to change places every couple of years. its a requirement of understanding upon signing up. bets to get the horse side out the way though as their is a good chance your service on the tanks will be extended some.
Just done 7months of royal marine training and decided i wanted to leave... biggest mistake of my life !!! i cant go back into marines for like 12 months so im joining Hcav.. i cant wait! it looks quality!
it is qaulity but very very very hardwork. your work day will be long, but the life is just unreal. its like nothing you can ever imagine. top tip from someone thats been there and done it.. put alot of effort into your personal kit i.e. state uniforms and keep those brasses as close to silver looking as you can definition is the key. no black on white and no white on black and no black on brass same for white. its not about ow shiney your booots are its about how careful you are with cleaning
You don't av to do ceremonial in the regiment. However due to the armoured side bein overmanned at the moment, you will be sent to knightsbridge on ceremonial before you get the chance to come to Windsor. D squadron is attached to 16AAB, however there is no requirement to pass P company to be in D squadron. All our squadrons have some para trained personnel it is a privelage granted to us to do the course.
umm thats not entirely true, i had to do cermonial no choice of it. was basically told i was doing ceromonial first.. truth is you have to do 2 years of one before you can do the other. thats how it was when i was in the cav.
There are unlucky people who do get told that, but myself and quite a few other lads have been in Windsor 5 years or more and due to the courses we have done etc there is little likelihood of us bein sent to bridge whilst herrick is ongoing. Theres also quite a few SNCO's who have never done ceremonial so it is possible to avoid it if you dont want to do it.
yea james was an utter dick, i was one of the troopers that used to save his neck in the monrings when he shown up late for parade. i made sure his horse was all tacked up and ready to roll. hes a right snob. two faced too.
im not sure about his posting to kosov, as i left the regiment about a year or so after he started his knightsbridge ceromonial roles. i dont think he would lie about something like that. it is also possible he came from opperational into ceromonial. all i know is that he blows at ceromonial. he was probably a good soldier if he was opperational, knightsbridge is very testing not every one is cut out for it.
if joining the household cavalry you are required to learn to ride a horse
and there is no para trained squad as such
there is an element of the house hold cavalry which have been through p coy and wear a para beret and the para wings but not the cap badge and these men work with the paras as part of 16 air assult brigade
yea their is a requirement and at some stage you will have to learn to ride those horses, trust me been there done that. and the horse side of it is a brilliant experience. dont pass it off its alot better than it looks.
p-coy in the cav is just a qaulification that enables you to be posted on detachment. you have to pass the p-coy tests, it grants you the wings on your uniform and it looks very swag ;)
1 yes you have to learn to ride the horses as its part of your job weather your opperational or not, you have to be able to do both roles as you will rotate after 2 years service. and yes you can do p-coy.
no you cant. however there are regiments within the RAC that do recce tanks. such as the light dragoons. i think! look on the army website and youll be told about all the different jobs and what they do
how do you know that? sorry im not trying to star a fight im just wondering if you or anyone you know is in the cavalry or if you just got that of the army website?
Although HCav soldiers do not have to serve with the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, being prepared to work on horseback as well as in a Scimitar is welcomed.
