Was going to o2 academy to see MSG support BCC but £40 for 45 mins of Michael's stuff was too rich for my blood. If he was main act it would have been different. This video makes up for it.
The German hard rock guitarists Uli and Schenker from the 1970s influenced so many people. I remember adoring UFO and the Scorps in the 70s, just cranking them up in the car. Also thank Jimi Hendrix for influencing Uli, Trower and other greats.
Schenker is Hmmmmmm........ BrA NaNaNaNAnAA Breeee Bluuuu bluuu booo-rEEEEuuu vvvvvvwuuu denaledenaledenaledenale bow-WEEEEEEEE bra bra BU BU BUNUNUN, BUNUNNUNN DUN DUN DUN DUN, DOONE DOONE DONE DONE DUUUUNE BAA BAA BAA BRAAADADA................. its a trip like none other in this galaxy
At the end of video, about 3:30 or something, there's a lead you don't hear very often at these days. Man, these guitar players were awesome back at the 70-80s
Absolutely fucking sick. Schenker at his absolutely best. I love how he locks that V down on his leg and just focuses in like a laser beam on producing that incredibly liquid phrasing. He's the opposite of a poser.
it was so amazing watching michael schenker live... words can't explain how amazing this guy is. the funny thing is.. he came to a very very small club in el paso and not many people attended. its kinda sad how not many people know about him, but i'm very glad i do :)
i was so close to him i was able to actually grab his guitar. haha. long live MSG freaking amazing song!!! :))
My god!!! Love this version. It must be from Dortmund/Westfallenhalle big concert back in 1983. Many big bands where there. Like Ozzy, Def Leppard , Iron Maiden, Judas Priest , etc. Saw the whole thing on national TV a couple of months later. And i loved every second of it and i still do!!
and i love that sound! this is like a metal version of kansas! please tell me some more MSG because this is the first song i've heard by them and it just straight out jams.
it is nice to find others who appreciate m schenker as much as i do. most underated gutarist ever!! he is a true genius with the demons which usually accompany it
Totally rad! I've always loved this instrumental by MSG. Michael Schenker just rips on this and the some of the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard for sure.
You hit the nail on the head. Simon Phillips just flat tears it up on the studio version. Even Cozy's live version pales in comparison. But, the studio is a HUGE advantage to one take.
Re - Identity of the bass player - its definitely Chris Glen. Ted McKenna is the drummer (he replaced Cozy Powell). Both were in The Sensational Alex Harvey Band - also worth checking out. Always loved Schenker's solo's he never seemed to waste a note - he could be incredibly melodic AND shred up the fretboard simultaneously
It's from RockPop in Concert, Dortmund 1983, and has been on TV in March 1984. Maiden, Scorpions, Priest, Def Leppard, Ozzy, Quiet Riot, Krokus and MSG on stage - LEGENDARY concert!
This Guy was my Hero from the days of UFO still is even with the likes of Satch and Vai Michael is still up there So typical of the music game how he was so ripped off money wise
If you have heard the recordings of Michael Schenker from 72-84 you would know that he is a true genuis. Most if not all great bands/great guitar players have the "peak" or "glory" for about ten years.I love MS's playing as much as the next guy but please don't think he's gonna rip it ala 1977
schenker was, for a very short while in 1980, the best rock guitarist in the known planet... fortunately for us, in that time, he recorded this... yeah!
You tell me that during the early 80's when Gary Moore and Eddie Van Halen first listened and saw this they paused with their jaws opened in awe...etc.
I've loved this piece since it first came out, and spent hours trying to learn it when I was sixteen... the guy just rocked. I can't think now of a piece of rock guitar music from 1980 that I'd rather cover !
That's your opinion. But just about every guitarist will tell you that Jimmy influenced them. Maybe, even Schenker.? Uli has even said Jimmy influenced him. It's wrong to just write Jimmy off.
I have seen many interviews with Hammett.Schenker was as big as an influence on him as any guitar player ever.Listened to UFO/MSG so much he says his wife knows all the stuff.
I can never watch this just once, i bet I've seen it 50 times......I think this and his solo in Only u can Rock me are my 2 all time favs...his playing was so unique and unlike all others....loved it then, love it still...good video post blackmetal
Michael in his prime! I was 20 when this came out, so I know the effects of time on the fingers being a guitarist. The '07 vids are hard to watch, I wish Michael only the best.

pretty sweet. u can tell schenker is german just by looking at his face. They all have the same look about them. Schenker is one of my favorite guitar players.
