What an embarrassing loss this was. I missed it 'cause I was working and I didn't try to get the day off 'cause I (along with just about everybody else) figured its result was a foregone conclusion. In truth the '85 Dawgs really weren't more than about an average college football team, but still, losing to the Beavers, ESPECIALLY at home (and during homecoming) was a MAJOR embarrassment. The Beavers were simply HORRIBLE back in those days.
If the Huskies had beaten the Beavs and split their last four games (which they did), they would've been Pac-10 champs. They probably weren't the monster they were the year before, though.
As I mentioned above, the '85 Huskies were really little better than an average football team. Don James was a GREAT head college football coach, but after 1984 he didn't have a REALLY GOOD team until the end of the 1989 season when he installed (at the suggestion of Jim Lambright, his defensive coordinator) an attack defense that helped pave the way for a, during one stretch, 33 - 2 record from 1989 to 1992. Then he resigned and the Dawgs really haven't been the same without him.
Holy jumping up and down Martha! I am a lifelong diehard duck fan, but I do miss Darrell Aune. He was way better than that fat, bald, eunuch asshole Mike Parker. I was sitting in Autzen in 85 when this final score was announced, and the mixture of laughter, shock, joy, disbelief, and histeria was amazing
This is the only time the huskies have been majorly upset. Have you ever heard the expression "couging it"?, that's a nickname people made up for all the times the cougars have blown games. Don't talk shit about the huskies unless your a USC fan, cause besides USC, the huskies are the best team in Pac 10 history.
@GoDawgs1991 I remember a game in Oregon. Huskies heavy favorites. Washington was going in and then the unthinkable.....The Pick! That sparked the Oregon's domination of Washington in the Pac-10. Oregon has won 13 out of the last 17 games including 8 in a row. Don't get me wrong, I'm a native Washingtonian. I was born in Tacoma. I just understand that the Huskies glory is in the past. Nice looking back but we have to live for today. Things may change in the future. We'll see.
