Thanks for this, I have the same problem on my flat roof, your idea is great. My problem is much smaller in size but in theory it will work I'm sure. Why didn't I think of that!
I like the idea about joining the pipes below the level of the roof. One other thought is perhaps using a thinner id polyurethane tube (routed inside the fatter PVC pipe) might help to keep the liquid together inside the tube better and drain the pools more?
