@CanisofSprook - I think that it's to do with image. Pikachu might be rodent-based, but Lucario has a more, I guess, 'wise teacher' appearance than Pika will have, especially since Lucario's a bit more 'humanoid.'

Ok, in brawl, lucas does is a coward, but still that's because of his timid nature. When really needed, he's the only one who actually don't run away. Just see his game: When his mother dies (It happens in the begginig, so it's not a spoiler), his that freak out and his brother go straigh for revange. but Lucas? He haven't done nothing of it, instead, he got stronger and saved his friends who needed him. The way brawl did lucas was... wrong, IMO.
