1974...This song Loud as I could dial it ...Railroad Valley Nv deployment ...the Lobo's howlin best they could in the night desert ...my goodnight song to all the Lifers...and I'm still LOL.
Well Michael Hampton nail this on point but the real genius is Eddie hazel who originally done this with orders from george Clinton........I have been trying to catch funkadelic in concert to see this performance but i always miss it
This is the moust amazing song and solo. ! I love funkadelic therethrough this sound. I would give back all they would can hear on quickly this song in their realization. !!
I'm an old school guitarist and have played with some of the best in the business to include Ernie Isley, Jesse Johnson, Slave, Vai and McAlpine. Much respect to Michael Hampton and Eddie Hazel, I love Maggot Brain, but this is certainly not the greatest guitar solo ever played.
Has its moments....Not to knock anyone, but have to agree also. Sounds like " I believe in you" by Y&T......Agree? Meniketti would still spank this kid to this day tho.....I would even give him a run for his money.....
So am I the only one who picked up on the amazing resemblence between around the 7 mintue mark and part of the labrynith music from the original Zelda? I'm gonna go so far as to say he did that on purpose. Listen to both I'd love some feedback
It probablly sounds like that because he's rocking through a scale back and forth a little bit and the Zelda dungeon theme does the same thing just goes up and down a scale. It's probablly near the same key so that's why you made the connection.
Does it sound like it Yes, was he trying to make it sound like Zelda dungeon theme music, doubtful.
Always mind blowing. This is the greatest solo ever created for guitar..... Ive seen it live over 7 times and watching it hear is just as mind blowing... a must see for all rockers
Drummer is KOOL...However it would be much more Funkyier IF he would have played more rolls on toms and had a double pedal on kick just like Dennis Chambers does it...RIP EDDIE HAZEL with BIG LOVE....HOLLA JUDAH
Eddie had a hard life. The story behind Maggot Brain basically is Eddie Hazel. Yes drugs are a problem, but don't think that Michael hasn't had his share of Drugs. He's a great guitarist, but Eddie put his soul into everything he played and you can hear his emotion
He said the player is Micheal Hampton, he plays it note for note, but the real credit should go to the late, great Eddie Hazel, one of the greatest guitar players ever and original guitarists of the funkadelics. Eddie thought those guitar licks up and played it in one take during recording when he was told to play like his mother had just died. To hear the original, it is on the Funkadelics "Maggot Brain" album.
All props do go to the originator, but Mike Hampton is no slouch by any measure. His body of work with P-Funk speaks to his own genius. I love 'em both!

I like how the lights glint and run on his guitar.
This song is so fun to play and solo to, all you need is the bassline recorded in a loop for hours of soul shredding
