  • Em D Bm C and jam on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've seen Mike Hampton do this song live , and smokes it. True, he ain't Eddie Hazel, but he does the song justice....

  • what effects is he using for the guitar?

  • who got a light????? I got papers lmao

  • DAMN! IT WAS GOOD BUT THEY SHOULD HAVE THANKED EDDIE HAZEL

  • Its Eddie Hazel the one in the guitar?

If he is, damn he looks like Daddy Yankee so he looks like shit. I hope he isnt Hazel.

  • @Alexr26

    Eddie Hazel died in 1992...

  • 1st song I learned on my guitar

  • best song ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • more maggot brain

  • is that hampton soloing?

  • i love it when the drummer has the happiest look on his face at around 5:00

  • 1974...This song Loud as I could dial it ...Railroad Valley Nv deployment ...the Lobo's howlin best they could in the night desert ...my goodnight song to all the Lifers...and I'm still LOL.

  • Well Michael Hampton nail this on point but the real genius is Eddie hazel who originally done this with orders from george Clinton........I have been trying to catch funkadelic in concert to see this performance but i always miss it

  • mike hampton nails it ! this is the greatest live performance of maggot brain I have ever seen.. that drummer is tears up too ... wow !!!

  • this is awsom reminds me of the concert in newyork at the red parrot! mike was great!

  • damn much respect... some people cant play the same years later but he shittttttttted!! and his guitar looked Godly reflecting light. so sick.

  • Sweet Guitar!

  • I'm an old school guitarist and have played with some of the best in the business to include Ernie Isley, Jesse Johnson, Slave, Vai and McAlpine. Much respect to Michael Hampton and Eddie Hazel, I love Maggot Brain, but this is certainly not the greatest guitar solo ever played.

  • just out of curiosity, what do you think is the greatest solo?

  • agreed.

  • Has its moments....Not to knock anyone, but have to agree also. Sounds like " I believe in you" by Y&T......Agree? Meniketti would still spank this kid to this day tho.....I would even give him a run for his money.....

  • This song was made many years before that song existed

  • You are RIGHT! It all comes from somthing else is true. Blues is where it came from.

  • UMMMMMM Dave a bad mofo but Hamoton burns belive dude i saw it and was shocked......

  • Who is this guitar player?

  • michael hampton

  • i thought that was Hampton in the back sitting down

  • I like how the lights glint and run on his guitar.

This song is so fun to play and solo to, all you need is the bassline recorded in a loop for hours of soul shredding

  • Bravo Mike ... you out did yourself ... Amazing! Awesome rendition!!! I'm speechless... this song gives me chills ..Rest in P ~ Eddie Hazel

  • So am I the only one who picked up on the amazing resemblence between around the 7 mintue mark and part of the labrynith music from the original Zelda? I'm gonna go so far as to say he did that on purpose. Listen to both I'd love some feedback

  • It probablly sounds like that because he's rocking through a scale back and forth a little bit and the Zelda dungeon theme does the same thing just goes up and down a scale. It's probablly near the same key so that's why you made the connection.

Does it sound like it Yes, was he trying to make it sound like Zelda dungeon theme music, doubtful.

  • Always mind blowing. This is the greatest solo ever created for guitar..... Ive seen it live over 7 times and watching it hear is just as mind blowing... a must see for all rockers

  • Amazing, great drummer

  • I can feel Hazel in Hampton man! I'm digging it.

  • just F&*%#@* sweet

  • an all time great song. Acid rock I was on orange sunshine at the oaktown concert when they did this and it blew my mind

  • lol

  • awesome im gonna see that tommorow

  • Drummer is KOOL...However it would be much more Funkyier IF he would have played more rolls on toms and had a double pedal on kick just like Dennis Chambers does it...RIP EDDIE HAZEL with BIG LOVE....HOLLA JUDAH

  • Back in '96 at the Agora Ballroom Cleveland OH, my head was in the speaker and I was deaf in one ear for about 4 days!

  • the brotha' kin play!!

    beautiful

  • That Drummer Got Good Feel.

  • 1 numara yyyaa

  • Where was this recorded??? I wish I would've been there....

  • Who's The Drummer?

  • THE DEFTONES DRUMMER

  • That's Ron Wright on the Drums

  • no thats RICO LEWIS.

Ron Wright is with AMP FIDDLER now.

  • Awesome!

  • met the man on my first mushroom trip. true story.

  • yes

  • Thanks Leon...

  • As close to eddie (hazel) as you kin git nigga!! what a fuckin jam !!---leon ...bitches

  • Same guy, 30 years can change your style. He was only like 18 then, he has grown and developed over the years.

  • is this the same michael hampton that played on red hot mama back in'78? doesn't seem like the same playing style

  • oHHH yes

  • MAGGOT BRAIN LIVES.

  • Mike still lacks the passion and fire that Eddie had

  • Mike lacks all the drugs Eddie had!

  • Eddie had a hard life. The story behind Maggot Brain basically is Eddie Hazel. Yes drugs are a problem, but don't think that Michael hasn't had his share of Drugs. He's a great guitarist, but Eddie put his soul into everything he played and you can hear his emotion

  • Good for Mike That means Maggot Brain lives ! That also means Eddie lives !

  • aaahh i love maggot brain..please if someone there knows any full tabs for maggot brain let me know.

  • He said the player is Micheal Hampton, he plays it note for note, but the real credit should go to the late, great Eddie Hazel, one of the greatest guitar players ever and original guitarists of the funkadelics. Eddie thought those guitar licks up and played it in one take during recording when he was told to play like his mother had just died. To hear the original, it is on the Funkadelics "Maggot Brain" album.

  • All props do go to the originator, but Mike Hampton is no slouch by any measure. His body of work with P-Funk speaks to his own genius. I love 'em both!

  • Everytime I hear this, it moves me.

  • GC is cool man, but whos playing guitar? he got a nice guitar

  • quite simply, God!
