  • Despite what people think, this actually did happen. Largest wave ever.

  • clifs can cause megas then they should be blown up part by part to avoid it

  • I think you have volume control o.c.d.!

  • @DeathAngelHRA LOL

  • @DeathAngelHRA I was in a video chat with some friends and I was trying to make sure the volume was good for the recording while not being too loud in my friends' head sets.

  • this is what happens when chuck norris falls in the water

  • boring

  • lol mega tsunami.

  • that only happens when someone fat goes into a swimming pool

  • Not Bad, But You Haw Got Small TV.

  • @TheJUKKEfilms Its my tv for my room.... not like a shared family tv or anything....

  • @liquidstl okay :)

  • chill with the volume

  • It's 1,720 ft high!

  • It won't be higher than the new skyscrapers in Dubai.

  • @HonestTechnoAtheist you are right, the Burj Dubai is Much higher

  • 114

  • @H4L0K1NG4L1F3

I'm going to try and be the 333,333 viewer!

  • @matizzle32 lol

  • My Computer is Bigger Than Your T.V??!!!

  • This video is just a waste of storage space and web traffic.

  • Actually it was 1,720feet!!

  • the highest ever tsunami was 1720 ft

  • ITS AT TV!!!

  • ...you simple US "oh my goddddd" people....

  • Me cago en todo! dejad de grabar videos de la tele!

  • well, for one thing it's spelled "volume", and for the maker of this vid don't film a bbc owned show, yes bbc, not discovery. for one thing it's not legal. and two, it's bad quality.

  • You are so gay kid it happened I hate ppl that don't know shit and live in a little box, it's not even hard to believe

  • ya/

  • Dhiz video is bullshit!!!

  • @Xluisx4000 prove it

  • @Xluisx4000 no

  • @Xluisx4000 come on prove how this vid is bullshit

  • @Xluisx4000 Actually, You're bullshit i think? Yep...yep pretty sure that's it. :)

  • @Xluisx4000, No it's not! If you looked at Oahu's catastrophic landslide, it proved a mega-tsunami had occurred.

  • i saw that episode

  • quit fucking with the valoum!

  • this is truee .. i saw it on the 2007 world record book ... biggest WAVE/TSUNAMI ever ?

  • soy de colombia... y la verdad esto podria pasar ... pero la salvacion la da Dios...xD

  • @worldcitizenforever

Have you seen "2012" yet? Not real obviously (not yet LOL). Pretty cool Tsunamis there, big enough to almost reach the top of Mount Everest! The Whitehouse scene with the Tsunami is pretty sweet too!

  • @worldcitizenforever

LOL yes, I know how you feel, I want to see a big one too! Preferably not from right in front of it :-)

  • @worldcitizenforever

Nope, it was real, but happened in a remote part of Alaska in the 1950s, so there were no cameras filming it unfortunately!

  • oh, yeah i see i see your point.

  • like the description said. it happened in alaska.

  • The amazing part was that someone actually survived the event and was able to tell us all about it afterwards.

  • there was a mega one to hit washington back in the 1700's . the indians called it thunderbird. Now that the earth has gone into Post Glacial Rebound effect, there coming. Scott (BUG)

  • ii`m sorry but how tsunamis are measured?

the height is measured ABOVE THE SEA?

or its measured from the bottom?

  • above

  • @KNIGHTCleric I'm pretty sure Tsunamis are ABOVE the sea. If it was below, then I don't think it could do anything.

  • well i think even below could do serious destruction

as you can see-when Tsunami is approaching-its NOT ONLY water above the sea-a great force of water is concetrated from the bottom

thats the main answer to the question why Tsunamis spread to a great distance even after they reach shore

    coz of underwater force

so even 50 metre high tsunami(measured above) could spread 500+metres distance

  • It was 720 feet tall their was land scraped off at that height well away from the splash. The Fjord amplified the height.

  • I believe this was an fjord tsunami

  • Copy ....

  • fireeagle and hyperchief you guys are stupid. The tsunami was 500 metres high out of the water not above the sea bed because that means the tsunami on boxing day was 10 metres above the sea be if it was it would be under the water because they measure all tsunamis in the same way.

  • Hermano... no podés joder tanto con el volumen!!!

  • the wave wasnt half a kilometer high it was 150 metres high it was only half a kilometer higher than the sea floor

  • yeah exactly!!! nobody else understands that but you and me i guess. the SPLASH was the only part of the whole thing that was have a kilometer. the wave was 490 feet.

  • :) misunderstanding.....smile all :) O.O

  • certain extreme guy takes this too seriously....O.O

you have no sense of humor...O.O

  • LOL yes! i have humor. \""\(O.o)/""/

Although sometimes i may be a little slow, in realizing the humor.

  • why mother nature?not father nature?

my father is far more dangerous than my mom

  • haha, good one Vatebulu

  • hehe, not really...

Or would you like to explain, why you think it is a: "good one"

    Because i cant see it.

    Enlighten me please. :-)

  • To "Moxcore"

    hehe, not really...

Or would you like to explain, why you think it is a: "good one"

    Because i cant see it.

    Enlighten me please. :-)

  • umm, its funny.......it was just a joke, u dont have to get pissed off...

  • doh, sorry... the mistake is mine, i didnt see it for the joke it was.

btw, i wasnt pissed... just asking you, cause i couldnt see it, before.

    hence the smiley.

  • lol

    granny nature

  • lol

  • Being dangerous has nothing to do with it.

    Its symbolic for: Fertility

The thought of women representing mother earth, and mother nature, goes way back to prehistoric times.

People in prehistoric times, saw women's, and earth/nature, as being the symbol of fertility.

  • @Vatebulu They call it mother nature because nature is pretty fucked. Like ur mom.

  • @Vatebulu

Because when we women get PMS we get scary, VERY scary.

  • The thought itself of being in the way of a mega tsunami gives me shivers... I mean not even going to higher ground would save you!

  • one day they say that theres gonna be a mega tsunami so big that it could already have travled to the heartland of the us i think its pretty scary the whole u.s.a. will be covered by you know what tsunami damage and no survivors except a few i mean come on who said the at the answer is the discovery channel they said that valcaoes formed the earth that it so not true i mean everybody know god created the heavens and earth duh read the bible youll here it for shure from there its an awesome book

  • come on,you dont seriously think god created the heaven and the earth.

  • omg=(

    rescue:

"If there were any boats, i dont think they made it"

"God, what a sight, you ought see it here, its something like a end of world"

  • omg!!!

  • We're doomed.

We cant run when nature hits us with her full force...damn scary!

If Anak Krakatoa (krakatau) erupts as it's father had in 1883, the whole world would be fucked inside out. Major earthquakes, Super tsunamis, climate change and famine would only be some of the catastrophes felt WORLDWIDE!

  • Get a job, fear monger.

  • I have a job you worthless twit. I enjoy researching and sharing my opinion...unlike some lazy troll who verbally abuses for pleasure. Jerk off some more and let people speak of their opinions, idiot.

  • You clearly don't know anything about geology, chemistry, or physics, let alone have any common sense. You do research? I would bet that mean's you've read Wikipedia at best, and sucked off a homeless person holding a "The End is Nigh" sign at worst (probably did the latter). How come the scientific community isn't up in arms if we are infact, as you so elegantly put it, going to be "fucked inside out"? Oh that's right, because you're full of shit, QED, moron.

  • Actually darling, I work at a seismology centre and volunteer around the world to help victims of a catastrophic event. what do u do? Besides ofcourse, starting arguments over the Internet...? You're not even worth my time and I refuse to argue with a no brained individual.

  • your destiny is my anus

  • dude...and you'd think living in Alaska is bad enough by itself

  • BoooRing !!! x-!

  • ok. im gonna try to clear this legend up.

the wave at lituya bay was NOT 1720 feet high. the SPLASH was 1720 feet high. the wave itself was about 400 feet, which is still the largest wave in recoreded history.

  • i cant get this tsunami thing

they say the tsunami 2004 thailand was distructive, but the footage i saw water wasnt high as i thougth it'll be, saying distructive does it mean the water level or the death toll

  • It means the death toll if a tsunami this massive hit any of those countries in the Indian ocean the death tole could've been in the millions.

  • holy shit that musta been HUGE! imagine seeing that coming towards u! OMG!!!!!!

  • Boohoo boohoo sob

  • Stop with the volume, and the talking!

  • Stop With volume !

  • yeah sorry :( I got a little excited I guess

  • lol

  • @GhostXabi 1 on 1?

  • Claiming the wave was 1720 ft (half a kilometer) is just ridiculous. If the wave would have been that high, it would have literally exterminated half of Alaska. It is said the wave rinsed away vegetation and small trees as high as 1720 ft up land, but that doesn't mean the actual WAVE was as high. It was the SPLASH that reached 1720 up land, but that's an entirely different thing.

  • yeah, noneless is the truth. the length is not that big as the high (limited by the bay itself), so the wave could not have propagated so much as exterminated alaska or something. but it had ripped of much of the bay shores... leaving only the bedrock. fuck... thats massive :)

  • does splash strip all vegetation from bedrock?

only powerful hydrolic action can do that. More than splash, much more.

Do a little research on this. There is information, photos out there that show you the devastation. The wave went out to sea.

Not damaging any more Alaskan land.

  • A large body of rock falling from great height -- how about an enormous asteroid falling from space? Imagine the tsunami that would make!

  • Wow it would have been unbelievable if they actually got it on tape.Holy shit.

  • the guy said why did we not think of this before... the awser is that scintist are smart but sometimes do lack a thing called commen sence (sometimes)

  • Hey liquidstl, I don't know where your reply to me has disappeared to, but I will concede to your point of the wave being higher than any currently standing skyscraper. Since skyscraper is defined as a tall, continuously habitable building, neither the Ostankino nor CN Tower would precisely fall under this definition, and since the Burj Dubai is not yet complete, the wave was indeed taller than the tallest standing continuously habitable building, the Taipei 101. You are correct.

  • cool :)

  • correction: the wave was 1,719 feet high

  • correction : the wave was 1,720 ft. high or 524 meters...

  • Yes, in the guinnessbook there stands 1719.27 ft.

  • thats not true there are lost of buildings taller than that

  • lol

  • proof? which buildings?

  • The taipei 101 is 509 m tall to the top of the spire, or 1670 ft. While the Sears tower in Chicago is only 442 m to its roof, the tallest antenna reaches 527m or 1730 ft. The initial amplitude of the Lituya wave was 524 m or 1720 ft, and while taller than any current office tower, both the CN Tower in Toronto at 553 m and the Ostankino Tower in Moscow at 540 m surpass the wave, not to mention the unfinished Burj Dubai, which is currently over 630 m tall.

Not lots of buildings, but a few.

  • not to downplay the size of the wave, it's fooking huge. But it only got that high because there was only a narrow channel for it to move through, and consequently the area damaged by such an enormous wave would be limited. Nothing short of an asteroid stiking the ocean would produce something that big over a large area, and if that happened, a megatsunami would probably cause a fraction of the subsequent loss of life. Most would die in the "nuclear winter" that would follow the impact.

  • Similar events took place in Norway in 1905 and 1936 in a place called Loen. In both events, a lot of people were killed. The intitial splash was never measured, as it was in Lituya, but the waves following the splash were probably similar in size.

  • The place were this happened is called Lituya Bay, not Latulla Bay and the measured height of the initial splash was 1720 ft (524 m). After the first splash, the wave height was significantly lower, as it moved towards the sea, but high enough to lift that boat high over the tree-tops. If you google "Lituya Bay" you will find a lot of info about this event back in 1958.

  • sweet

  • dang(k)

  • fight the machine

  • WHAT??

  • I saw the english version the other day

  • HOLY...SHIT!..:0...omg......

  • how come this doesnt have like a million views? every one should know about this!!

  • In time it will young patawan...

  • yes master

  • ROFL

  • thats insane

  • ai mega tsuname

  • bsolutly. Even more remarkable that someone's boat went over it. (He was ancored be with a 40 fathom chain which was subsiquently snaped in half!)

  • Yep, I saw that interview, too. He had his young son aboard, too (eek), and was pretty much resigned to being killed when he saw it coming, so he steered to meet it bough-on. Ended up being lifted on top of it all the way inland and was dropped off in the trees!

Most people don't know about it because AK is so unpopulated, so there wasn't any damage and little loss of life. Most people also don't know the largest quake in North American history hit there in 1962, with tsunamis following.

  • Correction: The earthquake was in 1964.

  • This is one of the most remarkable natural events to occur during the history of man,and many people know nothing about it

  • I think i saw that on discovery channel. Its crazy man. They say that this valcano will calapse into the ocean and will be a disaster for cities on the coast of the alantic ocean. Such as miami
